So recently i’ve been noticing the anime is lot more popular these days, so what could be the reason according to you.

I personally think anime is cheap and games are above anime/manga for me.

It's much more easy to access nowadays. That's probably one of the reasons.

What could be the main reason anime is growing so fast
  • easier access through Crunchyroll and pirate sites
  • more and better dubs
  • more relatable and diverse themes
  • more supply

Lockdowns made people worldwide interested in the medium, leading to bigger investments and larger exposure. Anime also has been a part of internet culture for a long time now, so as more people make use of the net, they're eventually going to discover it at some point.

The competition being in a not so ideal state lately + for some reason anime people are more willing to pirate shit. At least that's how it seems, I don't have any statistics.

Anime is very accessible and there are other to mention why they're growing faster:
- Time Efficiency that you can finish a series within 3 hours or less
- Target demographic with age of 16 have more free time than an age of 25 with their busy life
Leading to more animanga topic being discussed frequently (being honest here I barely see Marvel/DC comics twitter X had less or never come up as a trending topic)

Games take up a lot of time and they are a mixed bag
- Long games are worth of your money
The good one - Witcher trilogy and Persona Series
The bad one - Starfield and Pokemon Series (newer generation)
The ugly - Steam games that you've never heard
Short games does exist (like Papers Please, and Portal) but they are too few to be mentioned
Here's the problem, most of the age of 13 -17 have mobile device and they are limited to playing a certain game, so their alternative are gonna be on PC 💀

T.V. series are more catered toward casual watchers who cancelled their T.V. cable subscription

There are many big reasons as to why, but here are the two biggest ones in my opinion (this is just my personal theory by the way)

1. Covid lockdowns. People all across the world had to stay at home for many days, and they didn’t know what to entertain themselves with while being stuck at home for so long. That was probably the time when a whole lot of people around the world stumbled across anime for the very first time, and they started watching some just out of curiosity. And with word of mouth, anime became more and more known.

2. Millennials who grew up watching anime when they were kids, are now grownups, and the ones who are in certain occupations now probably have more of a say in what types of entertainment get more exposure. Many millennials also have kids now, and they might’ve watched anime with their kids too.

You need a 3rd option. The decline of western media forcing people the look elsewhere for entertainment.

Greater coverage in Western pop culture and media, a noticeable drop in the quality of Western entertainment content, the popularization of anime by Western creators and the release of really high-profile titles.

If you are a guy, no medium caters to you more than anime outside games which is a seperate thing entirely. It has peak beauty waifus with often male power fantasy stories. Beyond that, it offers a lot more unique plots and characters than live action stuff that seems to be increasing in political propaganda. Would you rather watch live action girl boss the movie 5000 promoting lgbt stuff and fat acceptance with a mid looking female lead, or some beautiful fantasy like Villainess isekai. Not much competition imo.

Btw the poll is horribly worded. Take away games from the list and watch the results turn a 180. Mosly all weebs play games, and even nonanime fans game some. Even games are in a woke political decline though.

Why is there no option “People’s boredom + difficult financial situation”? That’s, like, the main reason imo.

Even if we're just talking about legal streaming, anime has been cheap and easy to access for well over a decade now, so I don't think that's it. That wouldn't explain why its popularity has exploded in just the last few years.

I really think it's mostly due to Covid. A lot of people were bored, and they got into things they were never interested in before. People who hated cooking were suddenly having fun baking their own bread, people who couldn't identify even common backyard birds were suddenly avid birdwatchers, and so on. And people who never gave a second thought to anime were suddenly desperate and bored enough to actually check it out, and they liked it. I'm sure many people watched some anime, enjoyed it, and then moved on to something else, but plenty of people stuck with it. Then it was just a snowball effect. The more popular it gets, the more people are exposed to it and decide to check it out, making it even more popular. I think this is how anime's popularity has continued to grow even after lockdowns ended.

What could be the main reason, indeed

"Chimp in state of nature never jerks off, but in captivity he does, wat does this mean? In state of nature he’s too busy, to put plainly. He is concerned with mastering space: solving problem of life in and under trees, mastering what tools he can, mastering social relations in the jockeying for power and status. Deprived of this drive to development and self-increase he devolves to pointless masturbation, in captivity, where he senses he is in owned space and therefore the futility of all his efforts and all his actions."

back in the 2000's you'd have to put in the effort to watch anime in parts on youtube/virus ridden sites for a chance of free anime, or catching it on adult swim or just buying physical media. its ridiculously easy to consume anime/manga for free now without even having to consider even leaving your house.

I have a multitude of reasons as to why I think that Japanese animation is becoming more popular outside of Japan these days and I will list a few in short bulletpoints

  • Japanese shows are easier to access now than ever before with the internet, since now you don't have to rely on a handful of curated shows that air on TV and a few more niche titles that went straight to VHS and DVD.
  • Related to the last part, Japanese shows get released much faster these days than it did even just 10 years ago, with most shows getting subtitled less than 24 hours after they air in Japan. Dubs are also releasing much faster usually only being a few weeks behind the Japanese version instead of having to wait years for the popular shows.
  • There isn't really as big a stigma around watching foreign shows these days compared to 10 years ago. It's become much more socially acceptable to watch shows from all around the world.
  • Multiple generations of kids in the West have grown up with Japanese animation at this point with both Millenials and Gen Z having anime on TV, although us in Gen Z have had the benefit of the internet and access being easier so we grew up with more options on what to watch.
  • COVID led to an increase of people watching Japanese animation and starting other new hobbies due to the increase in free time people had with the lockdown.
This post is brought to you by your local transfem gamer goblin. Will not tolerate bigotry and will fight against "anti-woke" sentiment to make the anime community a safer place.

1. Anime has slowly made its way into popular culture. Through memes, references, music etc.

2. The amount of anime being made- as mentioned before the commercialisation of anime, but more importantly, more money is being poured into marketing, promoting anime through merch and the like.

3. More countries could now easily stream anime, and anime movies are being shown on a more global stage.

It's very easy to access now compared to the 2000s or even 2010-2011 when it was more niche, also its more accepted now as well I think back in the day anime was seen as a "weird" thing in the west but now all kinds of people seem to enjoy anime even "normies". I think internet culture played a big role in anime being more popular so many internet memes and references involve anime. lastly I think in the covid lockdown alot of people watched anime when they were trying to find things to do haha.

^Pretty much this as pirate streaming site uses rips of legal stream like CR, Netflix and Amazon. Before then, it was mainly fansubs as there weren't any official subs.

Covid. People had a lot of free time then and just wanted to try new things. Anime was seen as smth weird, and this generation wants to come off as unique by showing that they enjoy weird and unique things.
It is shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult.

hmm i wonder why people like anime... its such a mystery... maybe bc its an escapism from real life problems and because Hollywood tries to put real life politics into all new American media, maybe people just like boobs

Cuz films and especially Western Animation are full of woke propaganda making a lot people unconfortable so they switch to Anime. Games are less affected by this.

All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

Defo more so because it’s cheap. It’s very easy and safe to pirate with a huge culture surrounding piracy.

I’d say the actual main reason is cause it’s been so prevalent in online spaces since really the late noughties and has only become more pervasive. Anime is just the Vans of internet culture.

Established industry, not dismissed as "just for kids" animation, established communities, established social media sites/forums, easy of access (pirate or legal streaming sites), lots of large content creators talk about it to gain traction, the sheer quantity of works and variety of genres that anyone can find anything they would like, etc.

It's not as stigmatized as it once before. I remember back in the day when DBZ and naruto were ongoing, some ppl would get bullied or called a "nerd" for liking it. Now I think it's pretty socially acceptable and even cool to like anime. You see tons of sports athletes wearing anime clothing.

It's also way more accessible now than ever with crunchyroll and amazon prime and netflix.

Besides the financial and internet factors. Many of the popular animies as for examples JJK which I'd assume would most likely be a newcomers gateway often features animation that would defiantly wow the average viewer, as also bunched up with a story with stronger characters that doesn't or does not feel like it wanted to be woke/ awannabe comedian which western media cares too much these days. Thus making them delve deeper to find more animaes to find and talk about
