Kenshin just never cease to amaze in this show.

On their mission to save Megumi, he managed to unleash a new technique. That's not to say the rest of the team didn't contribute as Sagara also put on a great deal of determination and encouragement this episode. This was imo very intense for an episode. Props to all the VAs on playing their roles so well.

Of course Kenshin would have to get past the minions first before he could go and take on Aoshi, and subsequently free Megumi. First one being the creep mask man, Hannya, and quite surprisingly he made a few successful hits on Kenshin too during their fight. I mean his technique to make it look like his arms are shorter than they actually are could fool anyone, did the same to Kenshin as well… until he figured out the trick just a few moments later.

Might as well say Hannya’s actual face is… quite literally the definition of horror, and his backstory being textbook tragic, but that didn’t help when Kenshin finally beat him in their one-on-one. That man ain’t actually evil but that was just his luck, though leaving him aside, I kind of find it hilarious how Kanryu came to his senses and now is trying to run away from Aoshi and gang, but still with the rotten intentions of keeping the opium business alive.

Sanosuke got his chance to shine too, except he couldn’t, and took a brutal beating from the hulk man. We know he ain't gonna change sides, but that was a good try nevertheless, I mean what it did in the end was just pump him a lot more, and finally stomping his way to the victory.

So Under the mask lied a mummy huh.

Kenshin, Sanosuke, and Yahiko put in great effort to reclaim Megumi at the Kanryu residence. They faced a formidable obstacle in the form of Hannya, a spy from the Oniwabanshu. Hannya displayed impressive prowess as a martial artist and utilized his "extended arm technique" to challenge Kenshin. However, Kenshin astutely unveiled the technique's secret during the skirmish and ultimately emerged victorious. Just as it appeared the battle had concluded, Hannya unmasked himself, unveiling a startling revelation about his true identity.

Hannya sure did have a ugly face behind that mask of his. Unfortunately for him, it wasn't enough to best Kenshin, at least not that quickly. On the other hand, Shikijo indeed has some menacing scars I can't lie. He's truly something else. Also Sanosuke did an impressive job taking down that guy, although he was certainly expressing a flood of emotions in the process. But for now, he's down for the count.

With Sanosuke down, it's up to Kenshin and Yahiko to defeat Shinomori once and for all!

The mask really serves to make Han'nya that much more intimidating on top of his combat ability. In the end his little trick was a simple one but in the heat of combat few would have the time to realize. Returning the children really was a horrific ritual. The fight against Han'nya was damm impressive. Sano's speech was a good one. Skilled as the members of the Oniwaban are they have nothing to protect with their lives while Kenshin despite not needing to decided to draw his blade and protect the dojo and his friends. Having a reason to fight and a home to return too is just as important for a warrior. Sano's fight was a close one. Looking forward to seeing the fight with Aoshi next ep.

Damn man they take out all the stops with the action scenes in this remake.

The Han’ya and Kenshin fight was awesome. Love the rotating camera angles during the fight. Han’ya’s “returning the children” backstory was also horrific. As Kenshin said, you’d think someone like that would understand what Megumi’s been through and try to help not just enable the situation.

The sound design during the Sano and Shikijo fight was crazy! Those punches and headbutts had so much force behind them and you could really feel them with each blow. Sano’s speech gave me chills, then breaking Shikijo’s hands and knocking him out.. chef’s kiss, what a fight.

So far throughout the two battles with Oniwaban members, you really get the sense they aren’t bad, just misguided and as Sano said, blinded by their own strength. They should be using it to help people, not make things worse.

Kenshin and Aoshi next week, so hype! As usual the remake is delivering very well.

Kenshin made quick work of Han'nya by breaking through the optical illusion that made his arms longer than they appeared to be due to the stripe pattern. Han'nya face behind the mask is a testament of how far he would go for Aoshi. Then it was Sano's turn to face Shikijo which was a very intense fist fight. After taking a nasty suplex and headbutts from Shikijo, Sano's fists allow him to win the fight before loosing consciousnesses. Meanwhile, Kanryu is staring to get more desperate and tried to convince Megumi to run away with him, but Megumi to him to fuck off creating a bigger rift between Aoshi and Kanryu.

Next week is the fight between the leader of the Oniwaban group, Aoshi vs. Kenshin which is one of my favorite fights in the series.

Two great fights from main dudes! Kenshin facing Hannya and Sanosuke facing Shikijo. Kenshin firstly taking on the spy of this group Hannya. Who's smart enough to use many tricks to fool his opponents, including the stripped design on his arms. Optical illusions creating a tough way for someone like Kenshin to even tell how long Hannya arms could be when he strikes. Kenshin eventually seeing through the tricks that Hannya has, until the spy breaks out those claws and starts attacking like a wolverine. Hannya being from a brutal village and being tossed aside like a lone wolf leading to him being found and uses by Aoshi. Kenshin dispatching this tough enemy with minimal damage taken. Sanosuke letting Kenshin and Yahiko run ahead while faces the ball and chain guy Shikijo. Someone much more honorable than his fellow members of this group, talking to Sanosuke about how Aoshi gave them all purpose. Sanosuke throwing that back in Shikijo face because now they're just pawns for Kanryu. All those headbutts would destroy a normal person but Sanosuke can take some beatings and throw it right back at Shikijo. Leaving only the boss Aoshi for Kenshin to defeat.

A nice and action packed episode, but man I’m ngl I’m a little disappointed in how both fights ended. Han’ya had a cool gimmick with his arms being an optical illusion but they only mattered for one attack since he couldn’t help but explain he’s using a “spell” lol, he at least had a phase 2 with his intentionally warped face but he didn’t last long there either. I get he’s essentially just a henchman but I kinda expected more from one of the best guys in the Oniwaban group, still a cool fight tho.

And then came Shikijo versus Sanosuke, it was a one sided ass whooping from Shikijo’s side for the most part but Sanosuke basically got the last minute power boost and won along with standing up for the way Kenshin and his friends live, a cool moment but once again, I wish there could have been a bit more to the fight, but I still enjoyed it of course. Next episode looks like the final confrontation and potentially the end of this arc, let’s see how it goes!

@Softhenic03 he didn't? He just defeated a guy with far more superior strength than him.

As it was said in episode 5, sanosuke's biggest strength is his endurance and you'll be seeing him enduring and then fighting back more often in future.

Kenshin faces the Oniwaban Group's first defender: Han'nya, and the fight is intense, putting the enemy's Shinwan spell against him, that his Shinken stance was his ace in the hole. But the truth about Han'nya, reveals a monster behind the face, an intelligence spy whose facial features have been all but cut off, his livelihood being one of pure survival until he's taken in by Shinomori. Also, revealing it exposes his X-Men-like formidablility, yet Kenshin spares little hope that he actually ever know about him. Even as Kanryu wants to help Megumi be escorted out of the mansion. the damage has been done of the opium business too much to ever make a difference out of it.

The next challenger: main keep guard Shikijo. with Sanosuke leading this fight. Without his Zanbato, Sanosuke has no chance of winning against the mass bodybuilder, but he has spirit to try fighting barehanded. Even the former Imperialist had ties to the old Edo Castle, but that Shinomori granted him life and more through their elixir. But it seems like even as the strong ones surround Shinomori, Kenshin is the same, the difference is that of humane compassion that crowns victory towards Sanosuke.

Kenshin comes into contact with Shinomori, though he would like to avoid this battle at all costs. But Shinomori is not going to back down without his answers, and it's a tough road ahead to save Megumi.

Great fights.

That's not true.

In the 1996's Anime , Hannya's fight lasted for a little bit less than 10 minutes (Second half of Episode 10) , and Shikijo's one (despite having been vastly altered) lasted 5 minutes. (Last quarter of Episode 09)
So it's just like this adaptation.

The difference , is that the previous adaptation had more padding between the 2 fights , since they altered the orders of some scenes (Like Megumi trying to kill Kanryuu) , or added Original content. (Like Kaoru going with Kenshin and co. in the manor , and fighting thugs)

Han'nya's waldo arms are more horrific than his face. Using the sword to measure the true length of his arms and see past the illusion is a testament to Kenshin's intelligence.
But Sanosuke's fight with Shikijo elevated this ep in animation, dialogue and music. A true homie in the Kenshin-gumi.

I was very disappointed with the direction of this remake because of the average animation quality, forgettable OST, and not-so-great sounding effects. But this 11th episode was good. Pretty good! I think that finally the studio will be able to deliver a better experience for the fans of the 1996 anime.

I hope the overall quality of the show keeps on improving, especially for the next season.

it was a little fast paced, but the fights were amazing loved how they used every angle possible to show us the fights. They really know when to throw a comic scene or the drama scene and where to stop instead of cutting a fight in the middle.

I can only say I hoped to see more of Kenshin's strenght and confidence, like in the episode before where he destroyed the building throwing a pole or something, we need to see that kind of thing more often on the fights. I know he is a peace guy that doesn't kill, but they showed us that he can get pissed too, and with that Sanosuke and Yahiko can be a little more afraid of him. I don't remember the first season that well (damn I am old) but I don't think they showed this "power of friendship" thing that often.

My god Hannya masked guy is such a dedicated person. He's way more than monster. Too bad that he duel against a legendary swordsman with lotta experience under his sakabato. So Kenshin only need one basic stance to find out his little trick like that, and done.

At the end of the day, savagery Hannya dude and a honorably muscle man Shikijo, both will praise their leader so hard with all the devotion. Can't even considerate poor woman in distress, can't even shut the fuck off with all the arrogance.

Their reason to act were definitely different from Kenshin team ideal to save their beauty opium girl. But its always nice to have them battle their own ideology with that much effort, especially by how Sano shut off those old man with their own medicine.

So yeah, no matter how thick your skull, the matter is what's inside. Headbutt for the win...

Wonderful episode.

  • Kenshin vs. Han'Nya - great fight, lots of sakuga. Han'Nya is super dedicated, having being one of the "returned children" who ended up completely and totally loyal to the man who gave him a home, a job and a place to belong. I kind of get that he would be loyal, consididering his tragic past.
  • Sanosuke vs. Shikijo - Muscleheads fight. Fairly straighforward backstory, not as tragic. He chose to join because the Oniwaban leader (who was young at the time) defeated him, admired his muscles and offered a potion that would make him even stronger. Might makes right, he was sold. After a philosophical discussion, Sanosuke says well, that guy collects underlings by bribery, but all those who follow Kenshin do so out of admiration. Then he beats the other guy!

Both great fights, by underlings! Just before the big guns fight, it's time for the next episode.

Binging this is definitely preferable to the weekly wait, but still, it's not easy to wait.

That's the reason why this show is better than the old one. I like how faithful the Hannya episode was made. In comparison, in old version it was censored and made fit for kids, so watchers never learnt about how Hannya cut his face features and what his reasons were. In old version, those guys were just rendered to mere ugly bastards without soul.
And now, it finally feels the same as in manga. So, yes, I'll rate this show higher than the original Kenshin anime.
