I seem to be the only one here that can't stand this girl. When I hear what Diana said to her in episode 5, I feel like I'm supposed to get mad, but instead I'm thinking, "Right on, Diana!"

Where you have a question like "Am I the only one...?", the answer is usually "No, you are not the only one." I tried my best to get accustomed to her quirks, but it gets increasingly harder to bear them.

Yeah Akko is so stubborn, when Diana or any of the teachers criticize her, she should at listen to what they are saying and take it in, instead she gets mad and it is like "screw you guys I am going to do things my way anyway".

However I am hoping after what happened in this week's episode, maybe now she will start to change for the better.

Than again I don't know about you guys, normally when you have the hot headed idealistic jump head first into action without a plam main protagonist and the level headed though somewhat snobby rival, I mostly on the rival sides. This is nothing new to me, this is Digimon all over again. I have always been more on Yammato's side in Adventures, except when the evil tree turned him evil, I mean Taichi is the one who messed Greymon evolution by being impatient. Even more so in Savers, I have always been a Touma guy, heck even when he turned evil for a moment I still found him more likable than Masaru. Though Akko is way better than Masaru.

I don't mind it. She messes up in a sort of cartoonish way that doesn't annoy me like Naruto or Subaru-kun would. Also never really gets down and is confident in her farfetched stupid ideas, unlike those 2.

That behavior will also make up for noticeable character development as episodes go on.

I don't watch as much anime as before...

After watching the "Mathmagic", I just realized Akko is a lot like Star Butterfly. Both very lazy to do any work, and looking for the easy way out. Though Star is also like Diana in that she has raw talent and has this great family linage.

She know how much she can do, but her emotion often taken over her mind, so she always act like that ... Yeah, she's annoying but i have positive feeling she can get better ... But again, I will really mad if she suddenly get instant power in the end of the series. I think if that thing happen, i will never like her anymore

I like her a lot and I think she's entertaining. Her overly cheerful/stubborn personality is balanced out with Sucy, Lotte and Diana as well. I feel that the main lead of any series should be a little over the top in their personality as long as they have a good supporting cast to even her out. Everything Akko does is to achieve her dream so of course she will be stubborn as hell to be like Shiny Chariot.

Anyways, she's still a child and all main leads who are teenagers or younger are always like this. Naruto is the prime example of this character type. He's annoying, stubborn and thick headed who had a dream to become Hokage. Let's just hope we don't watch Akko take 15+ years to reach her goal.

Lol Akko is pretty annoying sometimes. This is her character in a nutshell:

Someone else: Okay, Akko. Don't do this, you understand?
Akko: I'm sorry, did you say do it? *does something that a good student wouldn't do*
**Akko causes trouble in the process**
**Somehow it works out because she's MC**

^ Yeah, that's basically how each episode is.
Anyways, I feel like Diana being "snobby" isn't even a thing. It's just forced writing, and I actually liked her character until the writer of this story made her talk down to Akko. It's like... she's obviously not full of herself. She just takes her studies seriously - at least that was the impression I initially got from her. But now she might be a bitch lol..

Nope. My friend despises her, so much so that he's close to dropping the show.

I find her a little annoying myself. Megumi Han is a great seiyuu and she's doing good work with Akko, but god, Akko sure can be annoying at times. Akko's character archetype has been done thousands of time before, too. Like other have said already, she's basically Naruto. Can't stand that character type.

Honestly, she's pretty great, entertaining to watch and is the life of the show so far (Even though Sucy and Lotte are neat supporting characters as well. I also love the fact that she embodies the good old clumsy but hot blooded and hard working Gainax female MC archetype which took off with Noriko.

I'm not annoyed with Akko herself as much as I think it's questionable that 7 episodes in she's a magic student and has yet to succeed in anything magic other than instinctively using magic in a dire situation. Shouldn't she have succeeded with even a minor spell in class by now?

I hope this post will help Akko fans. This post was something I made for Episdoe 7 but I think this could help those to have a better understanding of Akko.

The episode represents two themes, "Perspectives" and "Change".

Akko has come a long way since her debut. All she wanted was to become her idol Shiny Chariot but so far, she has no respect towards the lessons given to her, getting into authority's face whenever she wanted and even resorting to cheat. From many other's perspective, Akko could clearly be seen as the Villain of the story. However in episode 6, Akko who was now emotionally drained from the experiences attempted cheat once more to achieve her dream but instead she was shown the memories of her idol and Akko finally saw her idol's perspective. Shiny Chariot wasn't an instant success but an underdog. Therefore, Akko saw what everyone saw in her. Would her idol even approve what she was doing?

Realizing this, the young girl wanted to change and at this point our perspectives including those near changed. Her worst habits has been overshadowing what makes Akko unique. She is a little girl lost in a world that won't make sense in real life, she is someone who would gladly look out for those she hold dear, someone who would sacrificed her own life to do what was right and someone who showed dedication and determination. Those good qualities was what makes Akko, Akko. Ursula saw this, Lotte and Sucy saw this, Diana saw this and Andrew saw this.

From that point on, we see what truly makes Akko a Hero. She is clearly trying to learn and although struggling makes best what little time she has left in order to succeed. it was this point, the tables have turned. Most of the student body and the teachers became the villains. We can see that they are overstepping their boundaries in harassing Akko, becoming bullies. Any parent or anyone who suffered this kind of treatment would be happy to go down there and kick some ass on those that rightfully deserved it and thankfully, Akko proved those bullies that they were wrong and it was at this point, her idol became the Hero she needed.

Ursula witnessed the repeat of old history, saw herself in Akko and she couldn't take it any longer. All of us cheered, rooted, praised, applauded her for this act. If you think she such a screw up, why bring her here in the first place and more importantly, how could you compare this girl with all those who came from families who has magic in their blood and expect the former to become an instant success in just the amount of time the latter has? Its foolhardy.

And comes to my other topic, Changes. Akko has changed from the spunky, rebellious girl all those episodes ago. She humbled and swallowed her pride to make something better for herself. Ursula at one time did this and she became the inspiration for many including Akko. It leaves little wonder why the school is failing. They couldn't see the bigger picture. They couldn't swallow their pride and see the opportunities that was left for them. While the other students are well versed on their magic but could they actually succeed in this modern world? From what we can see, all their achievements are all zero to us. If your magic is great, why aren't you rich? Akko was the best thing about this school. Despite her blunders, she make something about herself and did the one thing and entire student body couldn't, make a self-made woman out of herself. If you kicked her out, magic will certainly die.

All in all, that's all I have to say. Akko has a long way but she has time and friends that will be with her all the way through. Peace.

yeah, not very bright but also a coward, nasty, (episode 12) and with spoiled brat mentality (episode 8 or 9? the one with inviting herself by someone else's party) and inferiority complex on top of that . At times she is almost as bad as some shitty shounen male MC. At least she is not overpowered ... yet.

She has really no sense of what's right or wrong, and in the same time you hear all trigger fanboys saying nonsenses like "she is getting better and better" "best character" "so likeable".

Actually I do get that some aspect of her personality are likeable (I love her resilience and liveliness) but man! her flaws are huge for someone like me (I hate cowards, spoiled brats and attention-seekers). The best thing of this anime is that there are plenty of characters that are more likeable than her. They save the show for me and I still hope Akko will stop acting like the "innocent" trash she is.

PS : yes episode 12 totally triggered me. It seems nobody noticed yet why she is trash in this episode, but we'll see. Maybe I'm not alone.

shes definitely one of those unbearable characters that make other people's lifes harder for their own selfishness

1. She doesn't follow what shes told to do by the people above her

2. Lashes out at anybody who tries to bring her to reality

3. She drags her friends around in her crazy stunts that get them all in trouble

so basically yah, I'm just glad it isn't bad enough to make me hate the show, this anime doens not use the usual empty MCs where the sub-characters progress the story that's why

yeah she is kinda annoying. I had expected her to "grow" atleast a bit by now. But she still only goes on because the power of plot armor.
The concept of the "underdog" that grows to achieve his/her dream is just way to overused in anime. (Just like the bullshit Op MCs are, atleast they are fun to watch)
Akko wants to become a great witch. But she barely practices. She only does because Ursula is teaching her. She should be reading magic books all day or try to fly her broom. She is just playing around to much.
While this was charming in the original movie, after 12 episodes of practically no character developement, Im only here for the rest of the cast.
In my eyes Diana is the actual MC and Akko is the antagonist.

I was, and then I started liking her as the show progressed. I feel like this is half and half with the people who watch this show. She does 3 weeks worth of training for the sacrifice in this current episode so she's definitely putting more work into it, and I'm praying this keeps up because she can stay the way she is, I would just like to see her put in more work like she did in this episode and be more considerate about those around her.

I think she was a little annoying at the start when she lacked real focus or drive, but now that she is trying hard I don't see an issue. There's nothing wrong with a stubborn, outgoing personality type when directed towards positive goals. I am honestly similar to Akko in that respect. I fucking hate rules (especially ones I view as stupid and outdated), being told what to do, snobbery, tradition, the whole lot. The fastest way to convince me to do something is to tell me you don't think I can or that I'm not allowed. Guaranteed it is the first thing I'm going to try to do because fuck your rules and holier-than-though attitude. I can do anything I set my mind to and nobody is going to tell me otherwise. Nobody.

I think her attitude is commendable because she is always putting others first before her own desires and wants everyone to feel the same joy for magic that she does. I think anyone still annoyed with her at this point in the show isn't being fair to her and is completely ignoring her whole situation. She's as devoted as Diana is, maybe more so, but she doesn't have the history or resources to begin to compete. She's struggling from waaaaaay behind everyone else that has spent their lives learning magic, while Akko is a muggle. Most people in the school doubt her, including her own friends up until this episode, and she only has 1 teacher on her side (though as far as Akko is concerned, she was forced to personally teach her). Akko's perseverance is insane, most people would've quit already. It takes a special kind of person to keep going in the face of that much adversity. A very noble and dedicated soul.

I think it gets better. Watched ep13 and she finally dedicated some sort of effort into magic. But Im sure as hell next week its all back to lazy akko. Thats my main complaint with her and this anime. She cant do anything right and wants only fun. Then dont go to a school dumbass. Obviously one has to learn. especially when its something special like magic. If she loves it so much, she should practice it 24/7 and cling to every word the teachers say. But nah. Everything she does right happens because of plot.

She does not at all. She is extremely selfish and has a gigantic ego. That's why she doesn't care about the rules and what her teachers or friends say and want. That's also why she is so tenacious, she doesn't listen anybody most of the time. It's good and it's bad in the same time, depending on the situation but don't say she puts others first, sometimes she does, but most often that not she doesn't.

Does every character have to be perfect? to be able to overcome everything that's thrown at them? to always eventually win in the end?
Do characters have to be kind and selfless and good at things to be an interesting character?

If Akko was all of these things she would just be another generic protagonist, I for one am glad that she has flaws. Flawless characters are boring.

Akko is annoying the way a child typically is. Which she is, she's a little girl with growing up to do. We all new and or have been a kid like that.

Diana is that child who's been made to grow up before her time. She's the product of a strict upbringing and expectations. May have seen a few of those too.

It's good and it's bad in the same time, depending on the situation but don't say she puts others first, sometimes she does, but most often that not she doesn't.

You're absolutely wrong. She almost always puts others first. She was willing to get expelled in order to save a school of fish. She was willing to receive additional punishment so that Lotte could go to the fair she was dying to see. She risked literal death in Sucy's mind to save her. She rejected instantly achieving her goal of being Chariot because she didn't want to lose her friends. Fuck man, I could go on for ages, but Akko is absolutely selfless if she sees someone in need.

Also, to say that she has an ego is ridiculous, she's aware she's shit at magic, as she explicitly stated this episode, she just puts on a face of confidence because it's all she knows how to do to push forward.

Furthermore, she cares very much about what he friends and teachers say, as has been consistently demonstrated in every single episode. But just because people tell you that you're a failure, doesn't mean you have to let them be right about it. You can improve yourself and try to prove them wrong, which Akko is doing. Akko is clearly always affected deeply by what others say about her, even Diana last episode. She just refocuses that energy into her perseverance and iron-will. This often clashes with the "rules" presented in front of her, but rules should always be questioned rather than taken at face-value, especially when the rules are made up by a bunch of archaic witches stubbornly sticking to traditional roots. Blindly following rules is just as stupid as completely ignoring them, neither of which Akko does. She is aware of the rules and bends them knowing she can be punished and always fully accepting punishment when it happens.

Ysad_Ziwezhan said:

Are you even watching the same show? Everyone wants to succeed in their own dreams, but not everyone is willing to put them aside or throw them away to help others in a time of need. Akko is. Every time.

I mean, dude, c'mon now. Akko can be criticized for a lot of things, as can most of us. She's stubborn, indignant, reckless, at times obnoxious. She's all of this and more, but questioning her integrity or love of others is really not something she can be criticized for. She's noble to a fault.
