| MAL is bigger than most anime sites, it's obvious that the Gintama fanbase is bigger here than in other sites. On the comedy side it's considered a cult and I must say that Gintama is a manga/anime that is really funny as opposed to many anime/manga comedies. |

| I dont think Gintama is friendly to casual viewers so thats why. Its much better if you have a decent understanding of Japan culture and good amount of anime watched to get references. Plus its got weird animation in that it looks older than it is. |

| the average taste on mal is horrible, probably because of all the children around here. just look at the top ten: fullmetal alchimist, hxh and 50 different gintama series and movies...not even funny anymore edit: fmab and hxh are not bad but don't deserve a top ten spot |

| IDK how the rating system works on other websites but if you filter by Top Ranked anime on this site then you'd see why... For starters, you have to watch at least 1/5 of a series before your score is counted on the top ranked, so with gintama having like 200 episodes? Anyone who dropped it in the first 40 obviously wouldn't count. Not to mention later sequels / movies are less likely to be watched by people who didn't like it in the first place. |
| Nah, Gintama is loved on every site. It's just that MAL has a lot more users that other anime sites. On ANIDB it also has a big score, so does on anilist and on every place that you can rate anime. |

Point being that you can have a great show that has only an O.K. beginning. |
