Ive always been the type of person who says the journey is all that matters. To be honest the genre in itself can already spoil the anime. However without going deep into a simple topic does it really ruin the show for you?

For example i know who Ougi really is in the gatari series but in fact while watching owarimonogatari its even better because i can pick up on the foreshadowing that occurs. However this is a pretty rare case where a spoil can in fact enhance ur viewing experience.

But even with a spoiler basically revealing the plot twist and ending, isnt seeing how its excuted really the fun part about it. Like if you know that the big reveal is "x" when u get to it u might actually be blown away.

Im using a lot of anecdotal evidence but how do you view spoilers and how does it affect you?

Mod Note: Please do not post actual spoilers in this thread!

Yes, yes it does. Not completely, of course, but it takes away quite a bit of enjoyment.

It depends, sometimes it really effects the enjoyment. Especially in series where the spoiler given tends to be something that is obviously meant to be a big reveal and not known by the viewer/reader.

A lot of the time, and especially minor spoilers, it doesn't really bother me.

Sometimes, yes, specially if I was spoiled of a show that I really want to watch. I remember how someone spoiled me the 17th episode of Akame ga Kill. Really ruined the impact of certain scene.

I prefer not to be spoiled but it isn't as big of a deal to me as it is to most people.

Only shows I hated spoilers for were battle anime (if I didn't already read the manga) like my friend ruined Gohan going ssj 2 and beating cell as a kid cause he had the subbed DVDs or whatever of it and the chick that got me on MAL told me about the death of someone in OP and Luffy new abilities early in the show.

Can't lie though after getting told those spoilers I noticed a lot of death flags and hints to what I knew was coming later so overall can't say spoilers piss me off.

If it's an heavy spoiler, then yes, completely. I often stop watching/reading when I got spoiled on something important and don't come back.
It regularly literally ruins the fun I could have reading it.

Not really, I like some spoilers since it will make you want to look for "clues" for said spoiler (such as the one with Ougi you mentioned)

Yes, it takes away the suspense and fun, and when the spoiled event occurs, I obviously can't be surprised about it like I would've if I hadn't been spoiled. In some cases, getting spoiled made me depressed.

Usually not really, unless it's a show that relies on it's twists for impact

I try to stay away from them though, they definitely do take something away.

If I watch something interesting and/or something I really like, it can be a problem. Otherwise I'm not really bothered.

I remember when I was about to watch Total Drama Action. I went to Wikipedia to see some information about the show, and when I scrolled down, I saw who won. That was the one case when spoilers totally ruined it for me to the point I gave up watching.

I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.

Na, not at all.

The first time I got spoiled, I thought it was going to ruin the show for me, but this show ended up being my favorite anime of all time (Clannad: AS). I'm sure you've all seen this, and the spoil for it is a pretty big deal. I also was spoiled for Death Note and enjoyed that as well.

Your Lie in April was spoiled for me and that was one of the reasons I decided not to watch it, so maybe it does have some part in it.

It doesn't ruin it, but it does annoy me a little bit at times. Though it depends on the type of show and the spoiler. I don't really care that I know that the good guys win or that the guy gets the girl, that's usually a given anyway. However for example with mysteries I don't want to know who the culprit is from the get go. Yes it's all about the journey blablabla, but part of the journey for me is figuring out who the culprit is. Also if it's a thriller or action show where people can actually lose and die it also takes away some enjoyment, simply because it takes away some excitement and those shows are at their best when they leave you on the edge of your seat imo.

However if a show is only enjoyable because of 1 plot twist then it isn't a very good show to begin with imo. Besides I'm not the biggest fan of plot twists without foreshadowing anyway. And if there is foreshadowing/hints being dropped you usually already know for example who the culprit is long before the actual reveal or that a certain character is going to die in the end. You're also right that with some shows you'll notice some more foreshadowing/little details you would have otherwise probably ignored. And those things do make me appreciate a show more, but I rather notice those things during my second viewing.

Not just major spoilers but even saying what the show is about ruins a show.
Well when i say ruins i do not mean it makes the show completely unenjoyable but it just a removes a percentage of the fun.

Depends If i remember them or not

A comedy show isn't as funny if I've seen the jokes beforehand, a sad anime isn't as sad if I know who dies

Depends on the series but more often than not yeah definitely

Especially anything mystery-oriented or something relying on suspense, in that case knowing the truth before you're supposed to totally counteracts the point of the show

Depends on how crucial it is to the story, but I wouldn't say it's a be-all end-all for enjoying it. I had a pretty large spoiler before starting Madoka Magica but it still ended up being my favorite anime.

Depends on the series 'cus some series don't really have a plot to spoil in the first place.
But yea getting spoiled about story driven series can ruin the experience.

Even if someone might consider something as a minor spoiler, I would prefer if people can be cautions about spoiling anything to others. The spoilers can take out some of the magic from watching something the first time.

just a bit to understand if the show worth my time.
Also I just search for screenshots if I'm interested,
and read a synopsis. I never read or watch reviews.

I try to avoid spoilers because being surprised is fun.

But being surprised isn't everything though. A story that relies on being surprising is pretty empty and leaves nothing to return to. If a story is good enough it will survive spoilers.

Not really.

But spoilers for VNs/LNs destroy the experience for me. The amount of time and dedication you put to play/read them only to be rendered useless.

For anime, I can just watch a whole series in one day so there's not really a problem.

I don't really mind spoilers as long as they don't have to do with something really important like some characters death and all. I really avoid them tbh, it kinda bothers me if I'm not the one to realize/see something in the anime, idk.

(I didn't finish Clannad: After Story because my friend gave my a heavy spoiler and it took away all of my will to finish the series)

If it's just "this guy died" it doesn't, because I still want to know how this happened. And I think even if I know how this happenned, it wouldn't be the same to watch it on screen, so nope, it doesn't ruin it.

But I prefer without still :D

It depends, if it's just a spoiler like "hey, here's that cool guy in the series that shoot lasers from his eyes!, you should watch it, it's a cool show" no, but if it's about some plot twist then yeah, maybe saying it will ruin your experience is a little too much, but of course your experience wouldn't be as good if you hadn't known from the beginning, and I also don't like it because it destroys the purpose in which the author/mangaka intended to be.
