The comedy is there to lull you into a false sense of security. Utena is not just a genderswapped fairytale, it subverts every cliche in the book later on...
It's definitely very different. Rose of Versailles has a very cheesy first dozen episodes because the director was mediocre but after that it switched director to Osamu Dezaki who's really good. It's a straightforward narrative that's very historically accurate for an anime that features a French woman crossdressing in the late 18th century, enough to have been used in Japanese schools to teach about French society during that time and the events that led up to the French revolution.

Gabba, sum Danish thing

I wouldn't say Danganronpa is good (it almost is though) but it's very entertaining. Jizzy has said that the second one however is great and our tastes align almost perfectly.
I dunno if you'll like the first one that much though if you already know what happens, most of the fun comes from investigating and the plot twists, the characters are almost all bad-mediocre. What's left are the class trials which are hype af.

JoJo is really popular in Japan and Europe, not in America/UK. JoJo has had complete French and Italian versions for a very long time that are all very good, but for some reason it never caught on in the anglosphere. America's animanga market share is also smaller than France's even though France is less than 1/4 of the population of the US. Same with Italy.
It's also a LOT of work to translate an entire 17 volume manga. Hundreds of manhours will be spent on it. It's hard to find the motivation to do it when the English fanbase is so small, and there's already a translation out that somewhat conveys the plot.

The translation is very bad, especially because it isn't Duwang quality so you might be tricked into believing that it's somehow decent, even though it changes a lot of lines and the personality of the characters disappear.
Wait till GER then, that'll leave you bamboozled.
