A TV anime adaptation of manga Magi: Sinbad no Bouken has officially been announced via its official website. The announcement was made after today's special airing of Magi. According to the announcement, the staff and cast from the OVA will be reprising their original roles for the TV series. It will broadcast in Spring 2016 and premiere on MBS' "Animeism" block.

The series, which is a prequel to Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, is written by Shinobu Ohtaka and illustrated by Yoshifumi Ohtera. The manga was adapted into a 5-episode OVA produced by Lay-duce between 2014 and 2015, with each episode being bundled with various volumes of the manga.

Sooo...it's an anime of something that already has come out in OVA form?

Not that i'm complaining btw, i love me some Magi, but now the OVAs seem pretty redundant lol. Like, what was the point in them (besides advertising, i guess?) if it was going to come out in anime form.

Either way, i'll be watching it though :3

My guess is that they may revamp some of the OVAs, add original content, and adapt the rest of the chapters since the manga is still ongoing with over 70+ chapters.

Is A-1 doing it? I hate the animation in the OVAs

Edit: Just checked on ANN. A-1 is not doing it, so I most likely won't be watching.

What?

OVAs look 9x better than whatever the hell that derpish art A-1 did.

A-1 announced Nanatsu no Taizai "New Anime" (most likely a season 2) only after 6 months. But still no word on a Magi season 3?

I guess it's because Magi doesn't sell how it used to. A-1 is all about money, after all.

The art style is more consistent. But A-1's animation itself was much more pleasant to look at and less.... stiff

So an alternative version to the OVAs huh...that really kills the purpose of the OVAs, but then again those OVAs are just baits for people to get the manga I assume. Anyway, hope it's a nice expansion to the OVAs instead of some summary style to the OVAs. If A-1 is not doing it, then that means the art style and animation might be different.

You expect them not to be about money?...

No. I can't really blame them tbh. Taizai was a huge success for them.

I just think it's pretty obvious that they aren't announcing a Magi season 3, since the manga sells has dropped recently and the poorly received 'Alma Toran' arc, which makes me upset.
But whatever... I love Taizai and Magi equally, so at least they're giving one series I love some attention.

Finally, didn't even bother with the OVAs.

Hopefully this will stir up a third season.

(Lay-duce should take over Magi's anime too, A-1 can take a seat)

This pretty much. A-1 is known for their quality art. Just look at Fairy Tail and the both Magi seasons. Some lulzy stuffs. xD

Kinda disappointed that Magi is not getting a season 3 since that means no animated Arba/ (BEWARE NON-MANGA READERS CURRENT MANGA SPOILERS UP TO CHAPTER 282 TO MAGI BELOW)

Even if it did mean suffering through A-1's shoddy animation I still wanted to see some stuffs from the main manga animated. *sigh*

Still excited about this though the OVAs were so rushed so this gives them time to flesh out the scenes more.

YES!
At least it's some Magi before season 3, and to be honest even tho I liked the OVAs, they skipped Sinbad's father story in the beginning and changed stuff, so I really hope this'll be a good adaption.

Really hoping it's a good adaption.. It'll be a mess if they want to adapt all of it in 12 eps (tokyo ghoul stype "shudder")

I'm pretty sure we'll get a season 3.

Just wait for it to reach 290-300 or something, since the first two seasons did adapt 100 chps each.

I'm hoping they're taking their time to give us SAO level of animation :3 (Yes my rukh is white)

Probably they are waiting for the manga to finish, I believe. They said that manga entered its final story arc.

A-1 is 100% completely about money. That's how they decide what to adapt. If it gets popular they'll snatch up the rights to it, if its an anime original the staff has to be comprised of people that have delivered hits recently.

Just give me S3 damn it.

I guess we won't have it now because A-1 is making Nanatsu S2 for 2016. I can always hope for 2017.

The spin off is fine. I do not get they hype of it since I enjoy the main series more.
Anyways, Drakon and Ja'far will make it for me.

I haven't even finished season 2 though but still

I suppose it will come after the manga is finished, it is entering its last arc. Magi is one of the top 10 selling manga since 2012 according to wikia.

They used 198 chapters to make 50 episodes. So, if my calculations are correct they currently have enough material to make 19-20 episodes if they start from the beginning.
A 25 episode series would start in early April and finish in late September, they would probably have enough material then to make the whole 25 episodes.

Wow nice news, didn't expect it.

There is but from what I predict, they could be revamping some of the OVAs and adapt more from the manga as there are over 70+ chapters. Plus, they might likely add original content to expand the story.

Well this was quite a surprise. I've heard the OVA's skipped a part from the manga and only adapted Sinbad capturing two dungeons so I've put watching the OVA's for later.
Now there's news it will get an anime adaptation!!!! I myself am really excited for this, I really enjoy the manga. Plus this will distract me for a bit while waiting for a Magi S3.
Hopefully this adaptation won't disappoint.

I think the "special airing of Magi" was referring to the TV program that aired in Japan discussing about the Magi universe and the latest information regarding the franchise, according to this.
I'm just guessing, I could be wrong. .-.

This reminds me I have to catch up with Magi's manga. I just hope that the animation in this one is better than A-1's. Magi's was horrendous and I still can't forgive them for fucking the anime up.
