Well, it's over...

No more Mushishi which makes me sad but I think the finale still did a captivating job imo for capturing the essence of the show with great emphasis on the Mushi. The illuminating lights were also quite a sight..and overall was well developed with depth. Finale wasn't as dark as some of the other episodes but I think it still captured the point of the show. 9/10. I'm going to miss this series ;_;

Hey Mushishi fan did you like Season 1?
I sure did!
Well here's more

MAL score for both parts of Zoku Shou will be an 8 because as much as I like Mushishi it's frankly more of the same. That's not a bad thing though! For me at least, 9s on my list have to go that extra mile and distinguish themselves as the cream of the crop. The 1 hour special between Zoku Shou parts 1 and 2 did that and I suspect the movie/special airing in Summer will be the same

I think it's interesting though that the mangaka put a slightly darker edge on the latter half of the series. There were some episodes of that nature in S1 but the more memorable ones were definitely placed in S2

The best tree in the world!

Kanta getting his legs turned into wood. The great tree that allowed itself to be cut to save the village :/ It was pretty touching how the tree continued to help the villagers by saving them from yet another disaster.

Learning to appreciate things, it was quite something how Kanta has infinite stories to tell now. The villagers now eager to help Kanta and his family as a means of amends.

A 9/10, really enjoyed the point that each episode was trying to get to. Looking forward to the movie!

Last episode? Nooo! I don't want to wait another X years for more.... Best episode in this season was with the girl who stepped on a shadow of other girl and switched places with her. I cried so hard.

Gorgeous, and great material for the last episode. I think it captured all the happy and melancholy aspects of the series very well. I just wished Mushishi would never end. *sigh*

Can't wait for the movie!

Well that's (almost) it folks. What a beautiful series, often powerful, always thoughtful and beautiful without melodrama. Ginko remains an enigmatic and complex character, I'm glad we only really got touches of his backstory really. The Mushi themselves were always creative and clever ways to give us some touching little tales about everyday people that were often more involving in 20 minutes than many stories can manage in several hours.

A series that will stay with me for years to come.

The Eternal Tree is among my top 5 favorite Mushishi chapters out of all 50. You can't help but love this magnificent tree and it's greatness.

Mushi Trivia

Lol'd at Ginko telling Kanta that if he's trying out a new con, he should practice a bit more. What a chill suggestion! XD

Kinda knew Ginko wouldn't just set aside what he said, though he was a little late to save the guy.. Them legs though!

Nice hearing the history of the tree from Kanta's mom. I guess the villagers didn't have much of a choice but to rely on the tree to survive. Somehow, I automatically teared up when the tree was being cut down. T_T
Loved how Ginko implied that it might've been the tree that altered itself (self-sacrifice) for the sake of the villagers. I'm 100% sure that was the actual case.

That moment when Kanta began to give off the flowers from his legs! Good to see how everyone followed his forecast and avoided that major earthquake.
The villagers were pretty nice afterwards too! Instead of thinking that Kanta is abnormal, they practically held him to a high position and regretted their past action of cutting down the big tree.

Great episode to end such a magnificent show! Mushishi/10. I can't emphasize enough about how great this show is. I don't usually say extreme stuff on the forums, but anyone that gives this show less than a 9, has shit taste.

Patiently looking forward to the special episode. I believe it will adapt "Drops of Bells" another superb story.

I can't believe it's over. ;_;

Gonna watch in a bit. This episode had better be a better finale than Mushishi S1's and Zoku Shou's finale, though.

It's difficult to call them finales when they're just episodes just like any other one. You could just swap out the end episode with any of the other ones and it'd probably suffice. I hope the movie puts emphasis on Ginko himself and brings about true closure to the series. This was a pretty great episode though, not my favourite of the season but still up there.

The Zoku Shou end episode was a pretty satisfying finish for me though, especially since the season changed to spring right at the last. It was truly the end of something, if not the series.

Still, it's important for the finale to capture the essence of the series and deliver a memorable story. The ZS1 finale actually did capture the essence of the series and was a good pick for the finale, but it was just one of the least enjoyable episodes of the season for me. The Mushishi S1 finale, though, is still one of my least favorite episodes, period.

And on that note, yeah, this episode did a spectacular job at wrapping up Zoku Shou. Easily the most hypnotizing, meditative episode of this cour. It felt surreal, almost entrancing. While not my favorite of ZS2, it was a great episode and a great finale. Although the soundtrack is always great, its use in this episode was truly phenomenal.

Honestly, there was only one episode in this season that I didn't love. This season was filled with beautiful stories, equal parts tragic and sweet, and I think this episode embodied that rather well. While it's sad what happened to Kanta, he ultimately saved the village and took on the spirit of the great tree, ending the series with a note of higher being. It ended the series with a heavy sense of wonder and enlightenment while keeping the "life goes on" vibe; the perfect way, as far as I can tell.

I hope the movie and true finale really blows me away.

I disagree with this, actually. The first half of Mushishi S1 had some of the darkest, most harrowing tales, as well as some of the most memorable stories, in my opinion.

Quite a memorable last episode. I really liked the character development in this one. It went from something bad that Kanta wanted to get rid of to being something to be appreciative of. Of course he didn't want to be a burden or to be in the debt of others, but in the end he changed his perspective as the villagers said that since they couldn't thank the cedar, they can now thank him. I can also understand why it was so devastating for him to be "rooted" to a place, maybe more so than others. After all, he liked traveling to places, and he could always bring stories back to his daughter Futaba. In the end, it was in way, as if nothing has changed. He has the countless of years of stories he could tell from the cedar's pov, and he can "travel" through the cedar's memories. A lot of things in life is based on changing your perspective to your current situation, and I'm glad Kanta was able to move past his anger at the "cedar." (though the real culprit is actually the mushi)

Not a tear-inducing episode, but still highly satisfying. Can't wait for the movie~

And that is the end of one of the most beautiful series. Like its message, Mushishi Zoku Shou S2 has an ending episode centred around the theme of "Unity of Man and Nature". A very environmental story, this episode. Which is truly fitting as a closure of a story about man and nature relationship.

And yeah, a movie. I want to put my hype here, but I'm pretty sure MAL won't be able to hold it because my hype towards it is massive.

5/5. A very beautiful ending. 10/10 for the overall series.

P.S. I see one guy really can't accept the fact that this series is ending. That guy can't accept it so much, that guy give this episode 1/5. You must really love Mushishi to make you give this last episode a 1/5.
HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

Mushishi has always been one of my favorite anime, and its sad that after the movie next year we will get no more of these amazing stories!

10/10 - I enjoyed this season as much as the first and after waiting 8 yrs to see the second and final season I am deeply satisfied with how all the episodes were done!

Movie next year will be a bitttersweet end to an amazing character and an amazing story!
So glad that I'm not a huge manga reader, because the manga readers WHINE WAY TOO MUCH and have to RUIN every adapted anime for the ANIME ONLY WATCHERS!

Shame that it's over. Mushishi is such a beautiful series. So many fantastic stories. I personally feel as though the original season (first 26 episodes) had the best of what the series has to offer, and of course Zoku Shou season 1 had some truly amazing episodes as well, but this season was plenty enjoyable nonetheless of course. Just not as many noteworthy episodes, with the exception of that outstanding lightning episode. Again, it's saddening knowing that the experience is over...looking forward to the movie, at least.

And that's that. Sometimes Mushishi gave us solemn stories, others happy, and others; tear-jerkingly sad. What a wild roller coaster of a series.

Looks like Kanta will have to live with those wooden legs for the rest of his life, since amputation will likely do nothing for him as the mushi is absorbed into his body. But even if he doesn't have any more stories to tell of his own, at least he has centuries worth from the tree's. He could still work as a storyteller, or chronicler though. Or maybe even as a prophet for inbound natural disasters.

Looking forward to the Bell Droplets movie.

What, there's a movie???!!

A fantastic last episode, I felt that last line about never being able to finish the story perfectly describes the nature of Mushi-shi XD

This season is definitely the best, I thought the first one was a masterpiece and didn't think it'd be possible to surpass it but the 2nd season just did.

Very easy 10/10. Looking forward to the movie!
