Yeah, he is a pretty nice guy. The under-the-cherry-blossoms scene was very cute. A great episode.

It kind of annoying that the people who subbed this did such an awful job. It can go minutes without a word and then all of a sudden a paragraph will flash by...

I'm really enjoying this Anime... I like the animation, in it's own simplicity that manages to get across the message in a really nice way.
Nice scene with the cherry-blossoms.

I loved when Arima was talking about how he was unsure about his reality and then turned into cells being manipulated by a shadowy hand.

Yay another kiss.
I'm wondering if it will portray anything beyond kissing. That would be awesome, but I doubt it will happen.
I'm not looking forward to the inevitable fight and distancing between the two.

I dislike how they put two shorts in one episode, makes the story rather lacking...
The first half was rather good, a nice second kiss! The second part was okey, nothing to great about it.

I really liked the parts from the kiss on. It was a good episode, his past was interesting and that misunderstanding under the cherry blossom trees that allowed him to feel love for the first time, that was wonderful. What a classic.

It's a little thing, but during Arima's section, I loved the isolated electric pole with all its cables cut. It just made me realize just how much symbolism I missed when I think back to earlier episodes. I mean, symbolism in a romance anime probably isn't that meaningful beyond the scope of the work, but I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of it all.

That's interesting. Even though Arima took note of Yukino's accomplishments, what really got his attention was that she had a better idea of what she wanted to do with her life when he was still aimless. Said curiosity combined with his loneliness is what led to his general infatuation, and eventually the events at the beginning of the series.

The kiss was nice, but the second half of the episode was the better half, in my opinion.

Thanks for making special note of the electric pole, Shocked. You're right; that was pretty thoughtful.

The weakest episode of the series because of the talk about childhood at the end. I wonder how old they were.
Numbuh 3, you've got to get off the couch, you cannot sit in that tree house, girl you like Rainbow Monkeys so grab your little shit and then swing!

So thats why... Oh and thats why... I get it... Well, a lot of things make sense now. You gotta love his motivation to care for her(no pun intended). I mean, a girl that acts just like Arima but doesnt have a mask. A girl who got things figure out for her because she got a goal in life and not just being perfect for the sake of some "revenge for your parents".
You can also see why he was so shocked when he saw her "true form" by the end of episode 1.

First half was also great if just to show us again that Arima is good at hiding his emotions. He does care for her even if he doesnt show it to her and is afraid to lose her.

Rewatching atm and this episode is such a bliss indeed. I had forgotten about that second half but you can really get inside Arima's head there, and as a flashback it just seems way more effective, since you know what comes next. There was no way to possibly tell what was going on with Yukino, those thoughts he wanted to know from her.

That "alone time" wowee! Passionate KISS!

Loved the meaningful imagery in the 2nd half of this episode. (the scale tipping, the power pole, etc.)

Plus that love letter... going out and seeing Yukino... we know it's not... but dang the feels of that scene!

Yet, there is something about this show that feels uneasy... like it's not going to have a happy ending... Part of my hopes for that since I'm a sucker for tragedies... but I also want a happy ending.

This anime should really be tagged "psychological".

Whoever composed the OST in this episode is a genius. The visual realization was also excellent and we got to see more of Arima, I think he is growing on me more and more as a character. This episode was also great, hope the series stays this strong.

This was really sweet (again). I really love the artistic choice for the kissing scene, still manga images go very well with the touching piano soundtrack. These images also convey the feelings of time going slower during such an emotional scene, I can fully immerse myself into the situation and understand just how timeless it feels for Arima and Miyazawa.

The 2nd half was great too, I enjoyed all the scenes with flower petals, and the background characters looked so background to Arima that they didn't even deserve their own color palette xD
There's also a cool scene of Arima and Miyazawa in the chemistry class with 2 faucets in the foreground, one for Arima and one for Miyazawa :D
The isolated electric pole is cool too, as was mentioned before.
I understand that a lot of people are going to dismiss many episodes for "bad animation" (and it's sad), but I can see artistic beauty in such minimalistic style regardless of the circumstances that brought it to life, be it budget issues or legitimate directorial choice. It's probably a "love or hate" thing, and most likely the line that divides Gainax fans from haters. After all, almost every famous Gainax anime had troubled production and for me it's one of the most interesting things about the studio. After all, it managed to create numerous masterpices regardless of all these constraints, and it had an undeniably huge impact on the anime industry and otaku culture. Gainax is just so special and I hold a separate place in my heart for this amazing studio.

The story moves on very slowly, but I like how we get to see everything inside the heads of our protagonists. I still love this anime! I was on the edge the entire time leading up to the kiss. I am so used to the stupid trope where the kiss gets interrupted by a dumb joke or something, it's so satisfying to see a more believable relationship unfolding in its entirety.

Also, I noticed a Star Trek reference! One of the bottles in the lab had "NCC 1701" written on it! :D

wonderful episode
man I really like how Arima fall in love with Miyazawa when he had known nothing about her,and lol based on a misunderstanding !Haha ,I laughed a bit like Arima....
That peaceful life had some void is a wonderful thing that I actually can resonate myself with. There's something missing on peace, that's why people starts conflicts even when there is peace. But for what reason ?
truly, ofc we are human,to prove that we ignore every divine rules...then forge a new world.
It's great how a romantic tale has so much philosophical depth in it.I loved this show !

I agree with all of the above.
The inner speech of both MCs gives this title considerable depth, the way it tries to describe the process of them falling in love, instead of simply documenting it.
It kind of feels to me like Kimi ni Todoke meets FMP The Second Raid.
And yes, I can't escape that feeling something really wrong is going to happen, but whatever it may be, I know they'll get through it.

This episode is composed of two half-length stories. The second one concerns Arima recalling the time before he got together with Yukino, that is before episode 1. It is a sweet story that makes me how we might get something similar from Yukino’s perspective.
However, the highlight of the episode for me was the first half. We are told one day in the life of Yukino. Starting right with her incredible sleeping routine of waking up at 5am. Oof. If anyone is waking me up at 5am in the morning by clapping pans, they better be ready to defend their life with those pans, because I’ll be going for it.
Arriving at Arima’s house, we get treated to a Japanese special double entendre, since it is custom to shower before sex, so offering someone a shower can be seen as invitation for sex. Obviously nothing of the kind happens, but Yukino’s thoughts prior to entering the house are quite opposite to those after seeing Asaba inside the house.
Finally, Yukino commits a serious no-go: Accusing the partner of “loving me less than I do love you” is relationship-poison. Fortunately for her, she immediately apologizes and Arima loves her enough to not be (rightfully) pissed. Instead, he proves his commitment to her. Enter the beautifully animated second kiss scene. Seriously, as long as we get occasional animation like this, I do not mind if 75% of the episode are slide shows. The “walks off” word animation just a bit earlier was a very neat idea, too.

Every bit of this episode and the ones before this are wonderfully created! I can't believe I missed the opportunity to watch something like this.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.
