I'm kinda disappointed in the animation of the sword fights and the censorship :-/

What do you expect ? It's made in '97.

I'm excited. That's rare..

It has nothing to do with the year of production. Mobile Suit Gundam was made in the 70s and it was better animated. Neon Genesis Evangelion was made the same year and has very great animation. I think it's budget limitation.

Well , Oriental Light and Magic , it seems they are unsuccessful in making good anime .They never did something spectacular.I guess that Berserk it's their best work.I understand your point.

Guts is crazy for not joining but he is cooler solo, Id like to see him in a team and dominate

I'm guessing he's referring to the fact that Guts lacks genitalia in this episode ... he's a Ken doll when naked :O

I can see why people have touted this anime so much. Nice old-school fantasy stuff so far. Seems like episode 1 was a cold opening late in Guts' career, and this is his early days as a merc. Hope we find out how he got his robo-arm.

wtf is with japanese going all out with their boobs and being wimpy with penises?
PS. I think Guts voice is a little too old for him considering how young he is

The animation is a bit off, but oh god, THE MUSIC!
There's not a lot of it in the series, but wow... O.O

There were way too many pan and scans, zooms and repeated frames in this episode. It is almost just like a talking manga. The sounds sorta make up for it, but they definitely didn't spend much money developing this series.

I have to agree with the animation's flaws, but i really liked the interactions the characters had with eachother. You can clearly see how Griffith thought himself to be so much better than Guts when he was on his horse looking down on him. And the nightmare made Guts more mysterious and intriguing. And the way Griffith talked to Guts about how he gets what he wants always.

Personally this anime has a lot more going on with the relationship-zone than on the fight scenes. At'least for now.

Im actually quite fond of this art style, and the animation still feels smoother than good stuff like Trigun. I'm intrigued by the story and character relations that will develop (though Im a little spoiled on this).

Actually I love the entire artistic aspect of this so far! Which is quite rare

Btw it seems that the sword is kinda matching Guts body size, you've seen that the sword got smaller as he got younger in some scenes, like it's part of him.

In the manga, I got the impression that Casca gave up her virginity to keep Guts warm. I guess that could be part of the censorship or I could be dead wrong. *shrugs*

I love this anime - its atmosphere is getting me. And the music, dialogues or story - just perfect.

Okay, this episode was certainly far better than the first! Loved it! Griffith's voice is perfect, while Guts's and Casca's could be improved, but at least they're not like the english dubbed version (which totally sucks). The opening and ending are weird, but I certainly enjoyed it when Guts's theme kicked in!

I like this episode far more than the first one. It gets the ball rolling, whereas the first episode didn't really do much to get the plot going. It was more of a pilot, I assume. The animation is a bit lackluster, but it has a lot of charm nonetheless. :)

Interesting, starting off with the story after that adrenaline-packed episode 1, I'm liking this. So many remarks here on the animation, not sure if it's cause I'm watching a remastered version (if there's much difference at all) or you're all just nitpicking.

Re Watching in English dub, Its weird seeing my older comment when I first watched this? Well the OST is more apparent and it was beautiful when they first introduce Griffith to Guts and when they talked.

Meh animation but it was still kind of enjoyable. Griffith seems a little too girly for me for being such a badass, a good thing Guts is such a massive badass though. I look forward to where this is going.

I wasn't expecting something so stiff. At least, the close-up stil imagels have some very nice drawings (probably not like the manga but for an animation it looks good).
And the second main character seems promising, if it focuses on their relationship.

@noGiAnime I don't mind it thanks to Lodoss, where the buildings and characters were pretty detailed (actually too much in the case of the characters).
I prefer such details to the kind of thing who is the focus nowadays: we have very simple characters with eyes overexaggeratedly filled with a multitude of effects, and the detailed backgrounds are only present as digital paints who don't look like drawings anymore, despite how pretty they can look.

PS: ever watched the Gunm or Lodoss to senki OAVs?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

This Griffith guy looks like a girl, how can he be so strong like that? even stronger than Guts himself, lol.

Though the interaction between them was great, and the cliffhanger was awesome.

Great episode.

Man.... Griffith is such a fucking badass. Unbelievable character.

Don't know who is more badass, Guts or Griffith? or Casca? Nevermind, all three of them are badasses.

The music is excellent by the way.

The music during Griffith's introduction was haunting

and don't get me started on Gatsu... shivers and tears, man.

Frick... I need to watch the next episode, but all I can do is listen to Gatsu for hours on end.

Many many many times better than the first episode, I'm honestly mindblown by how better this episode was. A backstory episode. Guts' & Griffith's past. Guts' is a real powerhouse, I like him. Griffith is creepy and interesting, he makes me quite curious.
