Oh boy, Maomao may have a new rival of sorts. She's still keeping her cool as usual.

Maomao talks about the beauties of the other girls but I find her look unique this episode just the way it is. She looks good with that coat on. A bit of a slower paced this episode but it had the historical lore and the usual gimmicks. Loulan is someone to watch out for sure.

So the new consort or rather the person to replace Ah Duo is finally here, and mind you Loulan, may look kind of young too, but there’s plenty to know about her going forward. Though I liked how the moment she came, Gyokuyou decided to let Maomao give them a crash course, sort of, to all the four current consorts, which of course would have revolved around the topic we all can easily assume about…

… I’m dying at the reactions of Lishu by the way. I mean the girl really is too young to learn the secrets and tricks of “how to make sure your hubby looks after you and you alone”. Wonder what other methods she would’ve taught Rifa though( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Anyways, it's been a while since we saw a mystery and Maomao playing the usual investigator.

Well it was just a warehouse sort of, to store raw ingredients, but still it catching a fire overnight is something to investigate about. And you know the tobacco stick we saw someone handing over to someone else last episode was coincidentally there too. Though to think the fire was a result of a really organic reaction... is actually something which only Maomao could figure out in an instant lol. Good for Lihaku, Maomao was there to help him out.

Lihaku's stupidity makes me love him even more.

Just as always, the investigation is the best part of this anime, though it seems like the flour accident seems to run deeper than what Maomao thought at first.

Maomao stepping into the role of a teacher makes sense, especially considering her past lessons with Lihua.

Including the newly entered Consort, advanced consort education is initiated. Maomao, who failed the official court exam and became a maid in the room of Jinishi, receives recommendations from Consort Gyokuyou and Consort Lihua to become an instructor. She orders teaching materials and imparts secret techniques in the bedroom. That night, as Maomao rests after the class, she hears suspicious sounds from outside, sparking her curiosity.

The beginning of the episode, with its simple yet effective black-and-white style, caught my attention. It was funny to watch Maomao go to great lengths to help Jinishi leave quickly. Seeing familiar faces impacted by Maomao was nice. I couldn't help but wonder about the content Maomao was teaching, undoubtedly something spicy. Lishu's struggles were relatable, and Laken seemed to bring some trouble. Lmao Maomao saying, "I'm good at making things we don't have," was a nice touch. Lihaku's foolishness wasn't surprising, but it added a lighthearted element. The ending visuals and song of the ED grew on me, surpassing the first, although the OP was still decent.

Despite the challenges, Maomao's help brought them closer to solving the case.

New Kusuriya episode 🙏🏾 this time we’re back in the rear palace to meet the newest concubine. She’s already got an air of mystery about her. That opening sequence of her walking to her seat was really cool and did a good job of showing us her personality without telling.

Poor Maomao just trying to enjoy a chill life in the outer palace and gets thrown back into the rear palace as a sex ed teacher for the concubines. Her giving them erotica lessons had me dying 😂. New concubine didn’t seem to be into it at all though. Something definitely suspicious with her.

Lmao at Jinshi making sure Maomao knows he’s the one who wanted her to wear the coat before going outside. Bro is so clingy with her.

An explosion at the palace? Time for detective Maomao to get to work. Best way to determine the cause is to try recreating the incident. I love when Maomao goes all Matlock and starts analysing cases. In this case she was a little too good at it and set dude on fire lmao. He should’ve listened to her and backed up.

Seems like it was a simple case of being stupid and smoking on the job, but that’s an intricate smoke pipe for just a regular worker to have.. could’ve been a noble or higher up? There might be more to that than meets the eye.

Somewhat of a cliffhanger ending with the guy talking about worthiness.. worthy of what? Can’t wait for next episode.

Dunno if the explosion and that cliffhanger are related to the new concubine’s arrival or not, but things are definitely about to get very interesting in this cour.

The latest harem addition seems rather bored and arrogant tho there isn't much to really judge her own.
Moamoa's lessons were funny to watch Richu will probably have a long time before she really can handle that stull tho but her reactions where really nice.
And there was another mystery to solve.

Slower paced episode as a whole without too much going on besides meeting the new Consort (and Maomao teaching her and the rest of them some 'techniques' to say the least) and very briefly investigating the explosion with Lihaku. Feels like Maomao quickly adapted to her new routine at the Outer Court, even if she is given trouble by the old lady who is very perceptive to say the least. It was still fairly solid though and did enough without feeling a bit boring. Kind of like Frieren for me where I thought enough happened to be a decent episode but nothing more this week. Can still serve as effective buildup with a subtle cliffhanger taking place at the end too.

Maomao teaching a sex technique class to the four concubine wasn't something I thought would be happening in this show. Convening them all into a room together with their top ladies in waiting for Maomao to give them the insight only someone familiar sex workers could convey. Maomao growing up around them most of her life has provided deep knowledge she can now pass onto the concubine. The different reactions were absolutely hilarious, such a wide range of faces and expressions. Gyoukyou and Lihua both taking the information with great joy, while Lishu is too innocent for such things, as the newest concubine just introduced Loulan isn't even amused by any of it. At least Maomao got praise from the two concubine that recommended her for this teaching. Maomao just wondering around the palace seems to find herself in situations she can help in, like investigating this sudden explosion. When we first saw it in the middle of the night my mind went to an attack of some kind, but thankfully Maomao solved the issue by using her past experience to see what happened. Someone coming to smoke igniting the flour released the air by entering the storehouse. Hopefully nothing malicious behind it and Maomao was right in her deductions.

Aaand the final anime for today. There is so much stuff coming out in Saturday, it's actually overwhelming me lol.
The OP is getting better and better as I listen to it. The drop is so funky.
The one gripe I have with this is that the name pronounciations are inconsistent. What I mean by that is the characters in the names are pronounced either in Japanese (e.g. Gyokuyou, Jinshi) or in Chinese (e.g. Lihua, Maomao). But yeah, just a nitpick (I personally would've preferred if they kept the Chinese pronounciations for all names).
Now I'm really curious about what Maomao is teaching them. Lishu really shouldn't be there lmao.
15:43 Does someone recognize this character? Or it's probably not a real one, considering nothing here depicts real people or events. Kind of reminds me of 楚 (chu). I'm catching up to Kingdom right now, so this part was really cool to see.

It feels like we're getting into something really serious and important.

Hmm, I thought with the way the new consort was acting and the sudden explosion in the night, the two were connected somehow. Some sort of robbery or attack on something specific. Though, it seems it was only a small food storage and a dust explosion? Hmm... seems like there is still more to this one.

Also, Maomao taking on the Sue Johanson role for the consorts cracked me up.

So Maomao got involved in not only teaching but another mystery to solve. From the outside it appears that this was a case of ignorance causing an explosion but we'll see if this is revisited later. That new consort seemed disinterested and bored until she saw Jinshi for the first time, interesting.

MaoMao teaching the girls sex techniques is something that I would have never expected. It makes sense in context but damm she was a rizzer in this episode. Teaching techniques to the girls, rizzing Jinshi, and doing detective work.

The teaching scene cracked me up, especially with everything being colored pink from the sparkles to the sinful lil soul escaping Lishu haha

New consort is definitely sus, from her basically throwing her crown into the box to disdainfully dismissing the lesson. Methinks she isn't there with hearts in her eyes to provide the heir to the heavens but has even more base, political, and potentially traitorous ambitions. Her appearance in the episode that includes the violence of the clearly-deliberate explosion and a seemingly throwaway line about there always being disgruntled people as well as spotlighting the barbarian threat yet again only serves to tie her closer to potential villainy.

Maomao forgot her father's warning about leaping to half-baked conclusions and ended up influencing Lihaku regarding the explosion before having a suspicion later about the expensive pipe. Mr. Monocle clearly had his suspicions on the matter after examining the pipe and leaving it behind... but I'm wondering if he won't be a red herring, either ending up an old and wise military advisor who's seen some things or even a secret investigator. If he was actually involved, he would have taken the pipe away with him to hide it as evidence.

Poor baby lady Lishu got too much sex education, she was hitting her head against the pillar!

The other concubines were devouring the techniques, and the new one was so blase about all that as if she's seen / done it all before. There's no way she's an ex-courtesan, right? Right??

That pipe ... it looks familiar somehow, I feel like we should have seen it somewhere before.

I liked the choice of highlighting the red colours for the new concubine in the beginning. This really goes to show how much work and thought was put into production and animation.

As for the episode itself I'm not so sure about some of the writing choices. I didn't really get why Maomao was (randomly) picked to instruct the concubines. Just based on two recommendations? (I guess that's enough in this fictional setting). And the other part about the fire and how quickly Maomao figured it out and put in a demonstration. I guess her experiments come in handy (and the fact something like this happened to her before). Still I feel like the time frame for her conclusion should be bigger. If there's a valid reason to include it other than for Maomao to be brilliant again...

Also Jinshi getting upset at Gaoshun because Maomao thanked him for the coat first wasn't cute but extremely childish. (I like Jinshi but this is seriously problematic). Honestly, if both main characters start out like this it's fine but if it drags on while the pace of the rest of the anime is so off it's a little concerning in my opinion. There's no real visible character development so far, also not when it comes to their interactions but the focus still seems to be to establish how superior Maomao's knowledge is. When her character would be so much better without this.

I still like this anime but it becomes more and more obvious. This is just my personal opinion and some constructive criticism (not that it would change anything). So yeah, this episode was just ok for me.

@Wildflower3 MaoMao grew up in a brothel and was trained as coutesan appretince for some time and then worked as a medical staff in red light district for all of her life. And the thing is that Consorts are for the most part daughters of conservative noble families and are not given any significant sex ed. And oviously they were virgins while sent to the palace harem. While the Emperror (at least the current one) prefers his partners to be skilled in bed. He is a smart guy and probably caught up who gave an advice to Lihua, so he asked Jinshi to find someone with a knowledge to give some lessons in the matter to his high-rank consorts. And both Lihua and Gyokuyou suggested MaoMao as they knew she can pull it off.

As for the fire, it is just one in a chain of small cases that are already happening and will happen more this season. They are parts of the bigger plot so spending more time on each of them would have been to much.

Oh yes of course Maomao will always be smart.

This time, Maomao managed to reveal a slight oddity in the warehouse which caused it to mysteriously explode.

In this world, almost nothing is strange, it feels strange only because it is unknown. That's what Maomao said today.

  • It seems the demonstration of dust explosion lacks an important condition - flammability limit.
  • The (almost monochrome) color-faded scene with an accent color of red at the beginning was beautiful. I'm not sure what the color means or it's just a visual direction without any meaning. She also threw her crown with a precious stone of crimson without any concern. She may feel sick of being a tool for her country.

Maomao seems like enjoying giving all the concubines a good women lesson, huh? Well, if its not her, those two fine women seems to understand the lesson much, even if the other two sadly have their own share problems. But look who's so curious about Maomao teaching at most?

Pure consort is doing fine here. She mysterious af and definitely had a big problem holing up deep inside. Not to mention the explosion case also didn't help clearing up her characteristic at all. But i genuinely like her pure introduction here.

And i also feel like i pretty much sure, that Lakan-sama must be cooking something behind the scene, especially with that pipe, and he must be trying to catch Maomao attention with all that act....

@Embient not really a spoiler but yeah it's not the name of a real kingdom. It's the character 茘 (li) which is a variant of the character 荔. it's the li in lychee (荔枝) but also part of the name of another plant, the Chinese iris (马荔 or 马蔺). not sure if the plants themselves are important, but basically the show is set in the fictional country/empire of Li and this is the character (茘) for the country's name

The new Pure Consort's black-and-white entrance after the opening, when the only color was the red of her head jewel, her lips and her parasol accompanied by the violin was very aesthetic, a visual technique I would like this series to apply more times in the future. A new Pure Consort has arrived, and an explosion is the source of a new mystery...

The first part of the episode had Maomao go back to the rear palace for her to educate the concubines on rather... interesting topics, and Lishu's reaction to it all was hilarious. Of course Jinshi was there to eavesdrop as well. The more interesting part of the episode was the explosion that happened sometime during the night, and I wonder if the new concubine, Loulan, had anything to do with the situation. She's someone to keep an eye on for sure as Maomao starts to investigate just what is going on, with her unique methods of course. I'm certainly looking forward to how this will all play out.

Maomao giving seduction lectures to the concubines was the best part of the episode. Lishu's and Gyokuyou's reaction was hilarious, and the new concubine Loulan did seem to be involved in the food storage explosion incident. She is too suspicious and the guy with glasses on one eye seem to be an important character in the next episode, His face is a bit creepy, and it did seem he was of high standing in the military. Anyways, truly a great episode this was, it truly gave me the vibes of the medieval Chinese era.

I wonder what these secret techniques are 👀
It seems they learned something to use or perform for the emperor 👀 👌💦
I wonder what Lishu-chan is on about 👀😂 (she's just 14)

And the my goat Lihaku-san is here hahaha that explosion scene is funny (waiting for that scene in the manga)

@Nachtwandler_21 Yes, I totally get their reasoning for doing it but it doesn't mean it makes sense. At least not for me. To think that out of ALL people in and surrounding the palace Maomao was picked for this "lesson" just because she grew up in the area of the brothel district. Why not let someone come directly from the brothel? Even given the fact Lihua could recommend her for the one occasion and even Gyokuyou did which might have been the main factor but as far as I know Maomao isn't even known for that kind of knowledge mainly and it could have been she knew one or two things and that's it. And mainly because they concubines grew up conservative it makes it even less likely someone like Maomao would be picked. Also there was no hint Jinshi was asked to do this. It rather looked like he was surprised himself when he received these notes/recommendations. I'm going based off what the anime shows, I didn't read the LN and if it's explained better there then well, that's good. It would still be a weird choice bot acceptable from a writing perspective. But judging from the anime, what we've seen it just doesn't make any sense. And the fact that someone who might know the source material (of course I don't know if you do) has to point this out and it still doesn't make sense goes to show it's not executing it well enough. I'm someone who usually pays attention to such details which comes with my occupation. If I'd missed something I'd admit it but here it just doesn't make sense to me, not matter how you see it (even if Jinshi was asked to I would have liked to see it communicated between Lihua, Gyokuyou and him better than they did).

Regarding the fire, that might be true and I understand this point given I've heard the LN is far advanced and the story seems to be longer, more complex and detailed. So of course you have a build-up for certain scenarios to play out in a certain manner or even make sense and get picked up later on. I don't know how many episodes the story would need to be told properly but surely more than 24. So I admit I might be a little impatient when it comes to this and wanting explanations for events that just can't be given yet... So that's on me (:. But what bothers me about this (and I have no idea if it's the same in the LN or manga) is that we get thrown in all these bits without a single connection (once again, that's fair) yet Maomao connects every dot flawlessly (actually maybe we don't know that, she could be wrong about some things too. But at least at the moment the anime makes it seem like she isn't wrong). This just doesn't reflect too well on the characters given we just rushed over the part where Maomao was fired to the point when Jinshi bought her back ONE episode. You have world-building which is done very nicely but then when it comes to characters you just want your audience to accept certain things without really showing (I mean they did but very rushed and not convincing)? And let others explain some of the details that might have gotten lost in this strange pacing? For me personally that isn't good storytelling. And I'm not saying the anime is bad and not even the writing is entirely bad. But it has certain flaws and I simply wanted to address that (and this explanation doesn't even include how the writer clearly worships Maomao for the sake of other characters. And that's my pet peeve. Sorry. If you disagree that's fine but that's my personal opinion).

Edit: And I just noticed your username is German. That's cool :)
You're the light shining over The black and gloomy nights
So long I've been waiting To run into your arms
Oh, my only one desire You're the one I need
Through the thousand years ~ Evermore

Loved the teaching session, their reactions were priceless. Lishu especially. Always love seeing Gyokuyou's liveliness and bright personality.

I hope nothing bad happens as a result of Maomao taking that pipe.

Do people in this kingdom really don't know that clouds of flower can ignite easily? Really? I feel it somewhat detracts from Maomao's ingenuity if the mysteries she solves are common sense. Like when Maoyuu Maou Yuusha's Maou blew everyone's mind with crop rotation, something that's been around since around 700 BC.

@issen-ken-taka Lihaku is a typical military officer from a low-rank noble family, it is normal for him not to know such a thing.

@Wildflower3 Jinshi was not asked to hire MaoMao speifically for this. But it was convinient. And two of the influental people actually involved asked specifically for her. WHat is the reason for him to bother searching for another candidate?

Maomao's lesson in the art of ...womanhood being too much for Lishu was hilarious

Got a feeling Maomao being in possession of the pipe might drag her into something problematic for some reason.

@Nachtwandler_21 He was put in charge of the investigation. If anyone knew about it why haven't they informed him? The episode gives the impression flour cloud ignition isn't common knoweldge, or at least that there's a serious lack of communication between government agents.
