| I used both anilist and myanimelist for some time, but I find myself on mal more often I like the overall aesthetic of mal more and I also found there are some titles that are on mal but aren't on anilist I also don't find anilist forums superior to mal ones so those are my reasons for leaving what do you think about anilist? |
| I have a anilist account, i copied my MaL account over to that site, but i hate the layout design of anilist. It truly looks like it was a blindman that designed anilist, it's just to much garbage every where especielly on your profile ( the profil is what i do not like at all ) Not a fan, I will be on MaL to the end of time. |

| The layout of Anilist is truly autrocious. While MAL looks somewhat dated, at least the layout is really powerful, while Anilist is too simplified to the point of being unusable. |

| It's soooo tiring to add manga and anime to your lists bruh. Could probably be solved with MALsync linked to anilist account but in my case it's linked to my MAL account. I don't care about the forums there. The two features that are better than MAL imo are 1) very elaborate stats tabs on profiles 2) being able to see global updates from everyone (but yea on MAL that would prolly cause lag) The possibility of clicking the heart emoji to like someone else's update is also nice, but the latest update tab is ugly as hell... |

| So, this is the "(unreasonably imo) praise MAL" thread? I guess I'll chime in with a somewhat different opinion then. Indeed, the few times I visited anilist I didn't like its design either, but guess what, I don't like the design of this site as well - its default letter size is made for ants for one thing. (I only use MAL because I can make notes right on my list, and I also met some people here through the forum games) Anime-Planet blows those 2 sites out of the water design-wise, what with having an interface both modern and convenient and intuitive to use (at least for me), and also having a bigger letter size than something for ants. | lol what's up with people thinking anilist ui is awful, they must be blind or something, but whatever suits them. Anilist is far more superior, organized and does not have many issues, unlike MAL. Oh, and reviews are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, you can even post images on them. Everything is far more easy on Anilist than MAL. I can even keep track of what I'm watching and what I've watched far more easily and organize my thoughts better that way. The only reason I still wander around this site, is that I still have some friends in here which I keep contact with. Otherwise I would have left long time ago. |

| I actually tried Anilist for a little bit before I joined MAL, but it just didn't click for me like MAL did for some reason. I really like the customization that's possible with profiles here, and even though the user interface isn't as "modern + stylish" as Anilist, I think MAL's has its own charm. It just feels more comfy in a way that Anilist didn't- maybe it's the simplicity of the site. I do keep my Anilist account as a potential backup, but that's pretty much it :3 I do see how Anilist could appeal to some people, and the diverse options they give for rating + stats compared to here are really neat! But it's just not for me. |

| I never used anilist. My original anime tracking account was made for Anime-Planet and then MAL became my second list tracking account. I use both sites equally though A-P is still better for tracking manhwa (though MAL has now been adding more lately so points for that. The MAL forums, on the other hand, are superior to A-P's so there's that). I DID check out anilist when I was trying to find a site to use as a backup for my manhwa lists, but I didn't like how the site was set up. It made me cringe so it was a no. |

| At the end, you can say that all of those sites have major issues. I haven't tried Anilist nor do I plan to. I personally prefer Anime-Planet design. Like the list sorting. Hate the forum. Mal design is... dated but, I can live with it. Hate list sorting on MAL cuz they have multiple issues with naming. |

I don't usually consult those myself, so I don't miss not seeing that info in the A-P pages, but they are indeed sometimes useful (for example the episode order listed in the "More info" page of the Kamichu specials listing was quite helpful to me in figuring out the order in which I'd watch the specials in). At any rate, this doesn't ruin my A-P experience, since I can always consult other sites (like MAL, or the r/anime wiki page about watching orders) to get any further information I need. As for hentai, not having it on A-P is indeed a conscious policy from the part of A-P's owner and staff, as on the pages where one can request additional anime and manga it's clearly stated that it isn't accepted. Once again, since I tend to not watch hentai, I don't miss anything, but I can see why you'd be miffed about not being able to add them to your list (personally I'm quite frustrated about not being able to add several webtoons that aren't on the db on MAL - one of which is among my faves - to my list here, just because they aren't from Kakao or Naver - talk about double standards! - so I can feel your frustration). As for the older style, as I said earlier, I personally tend to prefer newer interface styles are the letters there are usually easier to read (my eyesight isn't the best), but now that I think about it there are a lot of people who are into older interfaces because they like the aesthetics of those better, so once again I might not like this kind of interface myself but I can try to imagine why you'd like it (and if anything MAL's site is probably among the better designed older-style sites out there - there are iirc other older-style or imitating older aesthetics sites that violate accessibility and aesthetics guidelines way more than MAL does). So yeah, these were some sensible reasons for you to prefer MAL after all; I guess the takeaway from this is that everyone has their own preferences then. |

| When I first considered creating an anime-related account, MAL popped up in a Google search, and I've stuck with it ever since. I've never tried Anime-Planet, Anilist, or other anime-related websites, so I'm completely ignorant of them. |

| I consider it a rather useless website for my purposes and preferences. Aesthetically, I despise the layout since it's patently obvious it's designed to cater far more to the smartphone/mobile users' preferred UI and ultra-modern experience which I can't stand on any website anywhere, as a laptop and desktop PC owner and one who usually accesses the internet from my laptop and doesn't even own and operate a smartphone. As opposed to the visual format of traditional forums such as those found on MAL. What's more, at some point some months ago, I received a "warning" message via PM from one of the mods there for a post I made on the forum there which I very seldom utilize. The warning was pertaining to the remark having something to do with "transphobic" bigotry or discrimination relating to some anime character's sex or being a trap or not. I have quite a sharp memory and so mild, milquetoast, immaterial, and innocuous was the comment (milder than the sort of stuff you can read 1,000+x a day here) that even I for the life of me can't remember exactly what I even said. That's when I realized the mod team or at least a core and decisive contingent of it over there must be the ideological fanatic crusader types and so it's the perfect disincentive to participate at all going forward. Rarely even visit the forum there now. |
