If your goal is to consume as much anime and trying to comprehend what's going on in those stories, then yes, that would be quite efficient.

Tho I would never ever ever recommend doing that, as many stories in anime are just so wonderful to experience. All the lingering moments, awkward silent pauses, gorgeous animations and amazing soundtracks which add on to the story. Not to mention voice acting which is amazing.

Sure kid, that'll be real efficient. You'll be able to claim the highest completed count in maybe 5 years instead of 20.
You apparently have no grasp on reality, so that will fit right in with not grasping anything about anime at 4x.

You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

Sorry if my sarcasm is bad, it's not my first language.

I think it's more efficient if you just first start at 00:00 then drag the progress bar directly to the end. ffs x4 speed wastes so much time!

Someone doing that doesn't get what anime is about. Just read the manga. But once again you'll miss a lot by rushing

Or you could just not watch anime that you feel the need to watch at more than normal speed. If you still do for some reason then x4 speed dubbed would be better.

Or even better since it appears like the only reason you watch anime is to say that you know what happened in that story you could just read the Wikipedia pages summary on the episode. You can get through SAO, AOT, Clannad and DBS in the time it would take you to watch 10 episodes and still have time to spare. (i think, depends on your reading speed)
but what the hell is the point in doing that??

no because you will waste time from pausing just to read the subtitles
just watch it in normal speed or don't watch it at all

That's like watching it just to increase numbers in your list. If You feel like that in any anime just drop it

By doing that, you'll be missing a lot of art details, soundtrack, voice acting and importantly, the feel/excitement you get while watching.

Why do you even bother to watch anime, if you'll just end up rushing everything an anime is about? Just read the manga/LN/original source instead. Its faster that way. And you can comprehend things at your own pace.

Hmm if you're still enjoying it, then why not. I think there are anime like bakemonogatari that cannot be in high speed to avoid missing all the subtitle flavors if you're not used to it.

Using x4 speed and then pausing to read the dialogues, kinda defeats the puropse of time saving, don't ya think.

You can probably enjoy it a normal speed. If you still want to rush things, use x2.

How come you want to watch an entire episode in 5 minutes? I'm sad that an episode only has ~21-22 minutes.

It is not efficient

Tried it once but with 2x speed, annoying to keep pausing and reading.
Besides, I'm watching anime for the action and hearing the characters' voices and all.

But for series like One Piece it gets annoying after a while because pacing is slow af.
But it won't help to multiply speed to speeden up the proces of watching, it's just too hard and annoying to do. The only option is to read the manga, if u want something faster paced and just want to read the story.

I watch anime for enjoyment and doing something like this would make the viewing experience, well, not enjoyable. It's up to you obviously, but I would suggest not doing it.

Get good at listening and reading fast so you don't have to pause at all.

What a PLeB! Real fans watch it 16x speed and 10 different anime on 10 different screens at the same time with subs and dubs. Up your game and not shit posting.

If you are going to watch Anime sped up, why watch it at all? I seriously don't see the point of this. 1.2-1.5 I can sort-of understand, but x4? Since you don't really care about watching the Anime, you might as well just read summaries or reviews, save yourself some more time.

How about you play it at normal speed, actually take in what's going on, and not worry about your MAL completion stat.

If you do not have the ability to read the entire dialogues at that speed, do not do it, genius.
It shows how little you care about the experience and only think about the time.

The problem with watching series at 4x speed is the music is pretty ruined then which does not help accompany the scenes. I usually watch at a normal pace but go to 1.5x speed if everything is really slow.

i see watching it in 1.5 or 2x speed because thats what im doing with jojo right now and i can still read all the subs in time and it makes some scenes look funnier lol. but 4x ? boi thats like not even readable. if u are gonna do that u might as well just not watch it at all

Sure it is efficient if the only reason u watch anime is to pump up ur numbers on MAL. Also doing that will mess with the experience of watching it

I use a player that lets me set a default speed, so I set all videos to 1.1 speed. Any faster than that and I feel the enjoyment is affected. But 10% knocks a couple of minutes off each episode without having to do anything or really noticing any difference.

I did run a few episodes of a show at 2x once however, since it was really boring and I was near the end.

4x and stopping tp read subs is inefficient. Try gradually increase the speed in small intervals, keep the speed at your limit of reading ability. You'll learn to read faster.

Sometimes i end up watching at 1.5x~2.0x, at least in that speed i can read without need to pause. If you had to pause everytime you need to read and there are too much text it'll be such a waste of time.
I only do this when the anime is a such bad one and i already watch it too much to drop.

Alot of Anime shows out there are enjoyable, however, despite being enjoyable, they can drag on in parts for far too long.

One Piece is one of my favorite Anime Shows of all time, however, after 712 Episodes of non-stop enjoyment; I eventually hit a wall in which I was getting uncomfortable with the Arc's length (Dressrosa). I was planning on either skipping that Arc, or dropping the show entirely. Luckily, I discovered that by watching that dreadfully drawn-out Arc on 2x speed, I could complete an Episode in 7 minutes, thus I had witnessed everything that Arc had to offer without the need of skipping the Arc or dropping one of my favorite shows.

My point is, just because you feel a need to make a show more urgent in its speed, doesn't mean you hate that show and should drop it.
If you have watched enough of a show to know you love it, however, you want to burn through a boring/slow part of it quickly, do 2x speed. Do not go beyond that, as at that point you'd be torturing yourself.
If you hate a show and just want to complete it, why bother? Just drop it and move on.

After 8x speed you can no longer watch dubbed since the audio get so fucked you need to mute it anyway.

OT: It may be efficient, but since this is a media of entertainment meant to be enjoyed efficiency isn't something you need to strive for.

Unless it's one piece i don't think you should be watching anime at x4 speed. When your hobby turns into a chore, than maybe you should just stop and find something else to do.

If you're speeding it up to a point that you have to pause then you're wasting more time. The efficient method if you insist on speeding it up would be to match the pace you read.
