That was a great first episode. Similar yet different. What the hell was with that closing scene? I didn’t see that coming at all. Unexpectedly good opening song, that even I know the words to.

We’ve got real potential here.

Passione's work is a lot better than the original work by Deen. But that sort of makes me nervous for the horror visually. But Overall, I would say that even after watching the episode 1 of original many times, i would say this was a bit scarier.
Passione nailed The direction and pacing. And Boii I was nervous what would they do for the opening, BUT THE MADLADS DID IT. THEY BROUGHT THE OP BACK. I was literally losing my Sh*t in the end when they played it.
Amazing re-adaptation.
Really excited
Also technically, My OP of the year (i know its kinda cheating but whatever)

It looks like a lot of visual novel readers are pretty pissed about the post-credits scene. I have only seen the anime so I have no idea what it's supposed to imply, but if it's already a fuck up, I'm concerned.

Will definitely take a while to get used to the change in art style but other than that it was pretty reminiscent of how the original started so that's good in my book

The post-credits hint was a little bit odd though. That doesn't feel like they should be showing already

I'm gonna be that one negative guy and say this episode made me worry more actually about how this adaptation is gonna go. Pacing is not what I expected, I really hoped it would atleast be 2 episodes of slice of life scenes mostly with these foreshadowings. Like even if not that much, the scenes jumped too quickly, it makes me feel they're gonna rush this aswell. The animation is nice, but I wouldn't say great, I saw plenty of low-detailed frames which may sometimes give some good comedic effect, but outside of comedic scenes, it feels like the animators wanted to use as few budget as possible without looking at the quality. New OST is pretty fitting though and bringing back the original OP is a nice touch. New scenes in my opinion fit pretty well as replacements. But one thing I'm not okay with:
Overall, I'm not very positive with how this episode turned out, showing a big spoiler especially in the first episode's ending makes me think that the studio didn't even care that this was supposed to be a mystery horror, not just a normal horror.

EDIT: Oh yeah and not even including any inner monologues of Keiichi is a horrible decision, he's like Shirou in the aspect that most of his serious characteristics relies on inner monologues, if he doesn't have it, people will also see him just as bland as Shirou is seen in Fate/Stay Night UBW (maybe not as bland, but still).

I am anime original only, and its plainly obvious that is a huge fuck up. As another user pointed out, there is other foreshadowing that is PERFECT. But “that” scene? Terrible. The episode IS better than the original, keep that in mind, but you can’t give the main plot away so early

SHIT! I had heard that this was going to be a psychological /thriller/horror anime but I was prepared for the first 30-40 seconds. WOW!

To start the episode with such a disturbing scene and then quickly transition to the slice of life, comedic and fun element of the episode is very interesting and entertaining. I can’t wait for Keiichi to uncover the mystery/conspiracy that happened in Hinamizawa- it is ALWAYS a small town or village were some really fucked up shit happens.

Satoko, Rika, Mion and Rena seems really fun and likeable characters but there is something really “off” and strange about Mion and Rena. Especially the crazy switch from innocent, fun and quirky persona that they portray to a serious and scary persona.Reminders me of GET OUT (Jordan Peele thriller movie)
Why is Rena creepily holding a weapon? What happened in this small village? Can’t wait to find out and can’t wait for next week episode.

I'm REALLY happy with this. I had low expectations going in considering that I never expect much when it comes to visual novel adaptations. However, this (so far) is doing everything right.
It finally FEELS like the VN. I appreciate the little things here and there. I think this has a lot of potential and will certainly be better than the "old" anime. I find the new designs and animation style a little unsettling since it's not what I'm used to but it isn't unpleasant. Nothing bothered me at all in fact. Excited for the next episode to see what else is in store.
ALSO really loved the fact that the OP was used. Such a legendary track.

Never watched the original but this episode got me hooked on the show right off the bat. Got goosebumps three times in this one episode, when they reacted super quickly to keichi asking if there’s been a murder x2, and the ending scene. I like the horror aspect but I don’t like the voices of some of the characters and the old feel/vibe of the show, but I guess that’s to be expected of a reboot of an old show. Overall, seems like it’s going to be a good season.

I was really skeptical about this adaptation, but this episode gave me some hope.
Amazing backgrounds and general art quality. Character design is not bad as I initially thought it will be.

That post credits scene was terrible though.

I enjoyed this more than I think I would have. WHAT DID THEY DO TO MY BOY KEIICHI, HIS OUTFIT :(

The cartoonish animation was creepier and wasn't as bad than I thought it would be.

Man I miss hearing Rika "nipa" and Rena saying "I wanna take you home."

Rena saying "I don't know" gave me straight up chills. But Mion wasn't as bad seeing that I was ready for it.

That ending song gave me a lot of nostalgia. But what was up with Rika's eyes.

So. Much. Hype.

Seriously the opening at the end almost made me tear up because it was so unexpected. They cut a bunch from the VN but honestly I felt that they went a little overboard with the characterization anyway. This was so great, I will look forward to this so much every week.

I do not support the change of the last segment of the episode AT ALL. Wtf? While playing the intro music is a nice touch, compared to the original Keichis’ creepy realization that something is VERY wrong, it kinda losses a good chance to show more eeriness and build up.

I can bypass that...

But more importantly...

Yeah idk why some people are complaining lol, and it's not spoiler for anyone who didn't watch the OG/read the VN, wtf will they understand from that?

Anyway, this episode was amazing, from start to finish. I liked it far more than the first episode of the Deen anime. If they keep this up, it will be the anime of the year!

Big ups to Passione here, I would honestly say this was a WAY better introduction epsiode than the original
Higurashi was the anime that turned me into a weeb, I've rewatched it way too many times to count and still ADORE the original
But here they added just a little bit more content that made everything flow so much better

1. Introduction to the group

I'm extremely happy with the changes they made during the introduction of all the characters, seeing everyone get dressed for school was a nice touch, but the icing on the cake was definetely when Keiichi fell for Satoko's trap
Everyone's personalities here shined through and were made concrete, they made a better impression here as everyone bounced off one another and kept the audience engaged, rather than in the 2006 adaptation we met Rikka and Satoko just randomly and they were all buddy-buddy with the group there and then and you were just supposed to guess they were all good friends

2. The Art
Man was I a little skeptical when I first saw the art - While I liked the look, I'm a die-hard fan of the original and even though Deen's style was basic and, kind of ugly at points, how gloomy it looked gave the parts where characters go insane look great
I loved the detail that Passione put in the characters, but also the background art
The background, especially when Keiichi and Rena were walking to meet with Mion was breathtaking
I thought making this art style look more colourful would hinder the atmosphere but I was proven wrong, I feel as though I'm gonna adore it as the show goes on

3. CUT CONTENT/REPLACED CONTENT

As I've never read the VNs I couldn't say much on the content in the Deen adaptation and how it faired against the VNs, but I adored the changes of scenes and added scenes here

Overall, I honestly enjoyed this first episode over the 2006 first episode, and I am honestly surprised myself that I feel that way
Newcomers, strap in, this show is an absolute ride and this is a very promising start

Same 100%
i can't understand why someone might say the old one is better lol (the new one isn't perfect either but at least it's a little better)

The new version seems promising. Right off the bat it seems like it has better adaptation, better characterization, better use of atmosphere, and more polish overall. I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle adapting the first Watanagashi.
I agree that the after-credits scene wasn't a great idea. Hopefully it doesn't become a regular occurrence.

I could not stand the start of Higurashi in the original, and I could not stand it here. The visuals suck again like it did during the Deen era, just more modern now given its 2020. It was really boring for me, but I did appreciate the use of the original opening song at the end of this episode.

If there is one thing good about the original Higurashi, it was the original opening songs. Other than that, not a fan of it although the second season wasn't as bad. This episode as a whole for the reboot was just background noise to me.

Lol everyone bitching about the added the scene as if they don't know that more than half of their views are people who already watched the series. Similar to FF7 Remake, Higurashi is a victim to its own popularity so you can't replicate the mystery that the original one had no matter what you do, instead they focus on the spectacle and fan-service for old viewers kinda.

Also, the first ep1 of the remake is way better than the original.
