Quite an impressive and well-executed show. The animation was obviously the weakest point; it was kind of amusing to see the Thor's Hammer shooting with exact same clips every time. Definitely recommending this to anyone interested, seeing it's still pretty easy for it to go under the radar for watching. |

I'm not in the mood for any writing. Just saying this: RIP Reinhard, RIP Oberstien. So many damn amazing characters. A masterpiece of anime by all means, loved it. An amazing end to an amazing journey to an amazing Anime. 10/10 Btw I liked Julian towards the end of the show, and his wife is the prettiest woman in the show :P |

What a ride. Like any other anime, this had its low points and high points, but otherwise I don't think I'll ever come across an anime like this again. Anime in general sometimes also have a problem with the ending, but LoGH managed to end on a very high note. And now my wait for the 2017 remake begins. |
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says. I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby". "She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other." |

Just finished it. Brilliant. Possibly the best work I've seen. I doubt I'll see something better than this. Not my top favorite since that's not really a criteria for my favorite shows, but definitely top 3. Loved everything about this. I don't think there is anything I dislike about it. I would be lying if I said I didn't want to see what happened afterwards with all the characters, but it's fine as it is. Now I need to read the books, watch the other series and wait for the 2017 show. |

Just finished this. . . I love all about this series. The story has been told in very detail way. The date time was very specific and every place in the show has it's own unique history that been told in many ways which make them interesting (narrator is the best "character"). All of characters are somewhat likeable. They have their own ideals that represent their views about politics and life in general. Making this anime as one of rich quotes about politic you can find. Talking about character, most of character that plays significant role have received their development and background story about their past. This not just bring great dramas in the show but also the realistic feel of characters that make the viewer sympathize and related to the characters, and also understanding why the characters act a certain way. The interesting part is even for side of side characters received such development and background. The most "unbelieveable" character I would say obviously are Yang and Reinhard. But this is a story of legends, legend of "galactic" heroes. Even in normal human history, there's usually some people who makes "unbelieveable" history. So, the "unbelieveable" characters in this show are believeable if we can related it to the title. Art is pretty decent considering this show was produced in 80s-90s. There are some scenes that repeatly used. But the length of series make it a little unnoticed and doesn't really affected enjoyment. The music background and op/ed soundtracks are very dramatic and classic. Well, this is an old space opera drama series after all. Watching this was a great journey. 10/10 |
"People who don't see that anime has changed are either wearing "glasses" or watching only a certain type (and or era) of anime" "Having a low mean score doesn't necessarily mean one doesn't enjoy anime. Not necessarily ones who insulting/critisizing your favorite anime or people who enjoy a certain type of anime" "Fanboy is people who translating "your favorite anime is shit" into "you are shit". Excellent show. Simply epic. A bit underwhelming in the last season, like others have pointed out, but this show has a theme of disappointment. It's fitting somehow. It's found its place in my top ten, no question, but what I am curious about is why Oberstein had to die to lure the Terraists. Was it a miscalculation on his part or the author's? Looking forward to the reboot- IG is a good studio. In this sense, I hope they overlook the theme of disappointment. |

Oberstein is easily the best character of the series. He was always being despised by most of the characters for making - from their point of view - immoral decisions hurting the pride of the Empire, but he wanted the best for his nation at any time. Always appearing like a robot, he showed true humanity by sacrificing himself instead of letting Reinhard, who was doomed to die anyway, be killed. This man is a fucking legend. |

This was the best anime i have watched in a long time. Kaiser Reinhard was truly interesting but he disappointed me when he never defeated the Free Alliance beloved Admiral Yang Wenli. Its a pity he had to die in the end, but he achieved his goal of unifying the Galaxy. I loved Fleet Admiral Mittermeyer and i am glad he had to live and raise former Fleet Admiral Reuenthal's child. This is the last episode to conclude the story, and i'm moved by it. The scene with Bittenfeld got splashed by water gave me the last big laugh from the show, but that was rather a comedic relief before what happen next... Reinhard is an existence that defines what leader is. It's someone who's ready to take responsibilty for his action while guiding his subordinate, not ordering them. Moreover, leader need to pay attention to his subordinate, listen to them, reconcile with them so that he will be able to understand and make the organization stronger, more united. He doesn't fear anything, the universe is like a playground to him, which is why doesn't hesitate to go out and "have fun" with his men. Although his ideals is rather ruthless since it involves bloodshed, it's the way he acts that make up for that. Preserving honor is a difficult thing to do, but it is because he refuse to back down, to give up, to look down that the men respects him, ready to die for him. Some want to be like him, some even want to surpass him (Reuental). But he doesn't bother with that, since this man's ideals also involves "The strong will prevail, the loser will submit", therefore, if anyone thinks he's good enough to take on a fight with Reinhard, he's more than welcome to try. Untill the end of his life he still keep himself true to his nature, and passed away humbly just like his nemesis Yang Wenli and his former subordinate Reuental. This is also a message from the author it seems, that great men with great ideals and feat don't always end up the way they want it to be, and most of all you can't escape fate. *Salute* Much as i like Reinhard, my admiration and respect towards Oberstein is even higher that of Reinhard. There are many kind of heroes, those who stand up and fight for the weak (Yang Wenli, Julian, Kircheis), those who dream big and inspire others (Reinhard, Reuental), those who is willing to give their life for the sake of someone else (Lutz, and other admirals who died fighting), but Obersteins is definitely one of his kind in the show: those who is willing to play the bad guy so the other members in an organization can unite and work efficiently. I bet no one else in this show is capable of doing what Oberstein had done in this universe. Despite all the rumour, all the badmouthing, he doesn't give 1 F***, he doesn't waver, he doesn't give 1 word of justification for what he did, he did all of those "underground" work because he believes that's the only and best solution to the matter. My jaw was like falling out of my mouth when i saw him get injured so badly. And what he said in his very last moment struck a thunderbolt to me. If Reinhard defines what leader is, then Oberstein is another definition for "Sacrifice", in another form of course. The narrator said that the opinion on Oberstein's last act were divided into 2 group: those who believe that Oberstein planned on self-sacrifice and those who believe it was a miscalculation from this genious. I think he did it on purpose since Oberstein once said that "Shadow has to accompany the light, if the light dims, don't the shadow too?". He died so Reinhard could pass away in relief, naturally, and most of all to preserve his pride and honor, not to be killed by some random thug -_-. In exchange Reinhard never knew what Oberstein had done for him, and may even think that Oberstein didn't care about Reinhard at his final moment, i wonder which situation is sadder for Reinhard? To not have his vassal by his side in his dying moment, or to know that someone died in agony for his own sake. RIP Oberstein, my 2nd most favorite character in the show. *Salute* The other characters are well-built, they all played their part and role in this massive show, and everything got wrapped up decently. Throughout the show i experience different mood, i laugh, i pissed off, i was motived, i got shiver down my spine when i heard awesome speech, and i froze when my favorite character fell, but i also feel proud of them. The characters in the show are heroes simply because they inspire me with ideals, with the way they act, with their elegant speech and gesture, some are very simple yet deeply influent. It was one hell of a ride, the show deserve all of the praise it got, the score it has is perfectly fit. My final score would be 9.5 because it has some flaws but MAL scoring system is rather simple so i'll round it up to 10. |

Oberstein - the greatest unsung (galactic) hero there ever was? The other admirals kept badmouthing him and being suspicious of him throughout the series. But the viewer knew, at least to some extent, that there was more to it than that about him. The show never focused on him a lot. Never any inner monologue (unless I forgot it). But brief glimpses were shown, like that one episode where a character mentions him picking up a stray dog, and what Czeroc mentioned "since Oberstein once said that "Shadow has to accompany the light, if the light dims, don't the shadow too?"". Plus, you know, episode 103. That was ruthless, and I don't think he's wrong. And now in the finale he made his last sacrifice to protect the future of the dynasty. Whether the other characters respected him for this decision or all the previous ones... never really mattered anyway. Anyway, this was the last episode of this fucking great show. I put it up there with Monster. Something that really surprised me with this one is that they were able to make me feel sad even when antagonists like Lang were executed. Because even if MUCH wasn't told or shown, there was more to it than just "these guys were villains, they should die, the end". They're human beings. They have families. They have other things they care about. Other things they think. Lang had a family who loved him, and he donated to charity. Rubinsky wanted a son, and said son to be a better person than him (edit: And I just remembered, he said after Dominique left that he wanted a son 'who would kill him'... which is what Rupert was going to do... who was his son... but who he wanted to be a better person than him... but Rupert was going to kill his own father and succeed him... What would you could that? Like father like son I guess. He would never have another son. Rupert was the only one, no matter what kind of person he was.) Small things, but still. I feel like there was plenty of that going on in LotGH. Things that the narrator sort of mentions offhandedly without going into too much detail. I love that. |

But brief glimpses were shown, like that one episode where a character mentions him picking up a stray dog, and what Czeroc mentioned "since Oberstein once said that "Shadow has to accompany the light, if the light dims, don't the shadow too?"" Really glad someone noticed this. Though i think there's only 1 time the show let us know what Oberstein thinks (not remember which episode that is, but it was shown what's on Oberstein mind that he kinda hate the favoritism of Reinhard toward Kircheis). But overall, we still don't know exactly who Oberstein really is. I meant his origin, his progress in the military career before he met Reinhard etc., his story is told in a rather indirect way, through another person like the narrator or a character. His past was briefly told by Schenkop. His deeds most of time were speculated through his subordinate who i forgot the name. Sometimes the narrator even pointed out how Oberstein feel towards other or why he did something. He had a dog that only appear in one episode, in a very quick scene (don't really remember which episode that is again), but it was told that Oberstein went through all the trouble to care for that dog, showing that he does possess some trait as a human being, not that utter stone-cold, heartless man like many people perceive. It is just that (as Schenkop pointed out in his past), Oberstein has always been alone, he got bullied, isolated from his peer due to his appearance (the cybernetic eye i suppose), therefore he decided to not create a serious relationship with anyone, only to live by himself and dream of a day genetic discrimination as well as the Goldenbaum legacy be wiped out. I can go on more about how he had to struggle to get in Reinhard's admiralty (the ugly smile when he first met Kircheis at episode 4 is the great example), how he was drawn to a corner and made every effort to survive. This man's work is the most sophisticated, yet elegant for the future of the Empire (it could be for humanity as well, would be too long to dig into this matter). What i can't come to decide is whether his sacrifice at this final episode is also his plan or just his miscalculation, because if he really want the better future for the Empire he would have had to survive to advise Reinhard's son, helping establishing a steady dynasty afterwards. But it can also be planned, given the current situation. Oberstein is not liked, or to be more precise, hated by many people in the Empire due to the way he works, his ruthlessness, and even his rumour of secretly trying to gain the throne by slowly gaining Reinhard's favor through time. Reinhard is perhaps the only person in this universe who's capable of protecting Oberstein, once he died Oberstein will be left alone and there might be some conspiracy against him. So he had foreseen this and decided to chose death as a way to settle all the trouble : preserve Reinhard's honor and let him die naturally, kill all the Terraist to secure the future of Reinhard's son reign, and most of all, clear all the misunderstanding about him monopolizing the power for his own good, this way no one can complain and have doubt about his action anymore and can focus on their own future rather than to be bothered with "what's Oberstein up to". Anyway, Vahalla is going to get ****ed up as the the majority of Reinhard's team is there already (i keep telling this to console myself about what happened in this episode). Harlequina said: Something that really surprised me with this one is that they were able to make me feel sad even when antagonists like Lang were executed. I also agree with your opinion on this matter. This is what LoGH about, the age filled with conflict, clash bettwen ideal and philosophy, hence a lot of heroes are born, no matter what kind of form, what method they use to achieve their goal. Just like you said about Lang, to the viewer he's a despicable man who conspire a very underhanded plan just out of personal grudge (but i think he was also aim for higher position, so Reuenthal was the biggest obstacle in his way). But to Lang's family, he's like a hero to them, like how he and work hard for the sake of his family etc., (but i wonder what happen if they really know what he had done to get this far). This kind of tragedy will keep go on, no matter what the age, no matter where, hence the phase "In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same" in the OP 2 of the show. |

So that was it huh? I originally planned to write more about the many flaws or LoGH but the ending was done so .. fitting I guess that it left me speechless. Reinhard conquering Valhalla after he has nothing left to conquer in the galaxy seems a good way to end his character. He himself said one time that he was no longer needed once the galaxy is unified. And since his friend Kircheis was no longer with him he had no need to stay behind longer. I actually wonder what would have happened if Kircheis was alive, like Kircheis dedicated his entire life to Reinhard. Would he suicide to follow him? Im really really happy that mittermeyer survived, I liked his character a lot. Also Reuentals death had more impact on me then Yangs. Yangs was more out of nowhere, like Muller said here you had more time to "prepare" yourself for the death you expect so it wil have more impact. Im still gonna write this - I hated pretty much 90% of the alliance writing. So many asspulls, felt like shounen at times. I really enjoyed the empire side WAY more, the civil wars where far better then anything with the alliance. Empire only would probably be 9/10 for me. So its a 7/10. If only the beginning, the Rise of Reinhard, could have been longer. That would be fantastic! PS: Since they want to reboot LoGH I wonder how far they will change things, I doubt they can get away with the way they handled the women here. You really felt the old values and morals from LoGH concerning women. Mariendorf was the only exception, everyone else was just a bad joke. |

I wonder why the space doctors figured out that his fevers were so serious like 2 eps before his death, and even more intriguing was the fact that they didn't know how to treat a disease in such a distant and advanced future... Whew, finally finished reading all 10 pages XD Well, skimmed a lot of the text walls, but reading through really helped me solidify my thoughts on the series as a whole. First of all, this episode was a great way to end the series. It ended in a sad, but also hopeful way. I can't remember if I cried for any other major character deaths, maybe Kircheis and Yang, but after the episode was over. For Reinhard, it's definitely like what Muller said--that it's worse because you have to prepare for the death. I teared up at the short exchange between Reinhard and his sister. I definitely started crying when Eva and Felix arrived in the bedroom and seeing everyone standing in the room. Just thinking about the scene is making me teary-eyed again. It was beautiful to see Reinhard saying that he wanted Felix and Alec to be friends. I cried even harder with Hildegard's quote about how Reinhard didn't die from illness. Absolutely beautiful. I had actually previously complained that Reinhard was dying from illness, but now, I feel like it's really the most appropriate end for him. Especially after reading this comment: ploonoots said: Those are some harsh words of criticism but I disagree. Remember something that Yang Wenli, Julian, many others and eventually even Reinhard himself came to understand - Reinhard needs war, it is at war and executing strategic fleet movements, commanding the tactical movements of each of his esteemed Admirals and through conquering his opponents that Reinhard excels and finds his fulfillment in. After Yang Wenli, he lost his desire to fight against the Iserlohn forces because his greatest match and most respected opponent was dead, and not at his hand. He is a man who seemingly grows restless at peace and needs a challenge to overcome and then another to thrive and operate at his peak condition and mental acuity. I think in this sense the writer was kind to Reinhard, he conquered all of space and his political opponents were at peace with the Empire. He departed for Valhalla as we see in Mittermeyer's premonition, and there, reunited with his Admirals and Kircheis, can do battle once more. Maybe even against Yang Wenli, who knows? The afterlife of the show is ambiguous and left to the viewers interpretation. I think that was the final intention of the writer for Reinhard, he departs having done his utmost and leaving behind an heir, and a respected and strong dynasty, and good terms with those who desire democracy, now it was their future to forge while Reinhard, his Admirals and Yang Wenli tend to their own matters in Valhalla. Seeing Reinhard in this last episode also made me like him even more. I enjoyed seeing Reinhard having conversations with Julian, where the content included not only politics, but fun stories regarding Yang. Then the part where he gives his locket to Annerose, apologizing to her that he's taken Kircheis for so long. Lastly, Reinhard telling Hildegard that she may go ahead with constitutional polity if she thinks it's the right direction to take, as well as mentioning that if Alec doesn't have the capacity to rule, then the Lohengramm Dynasty shouldn't be sustained. Reinhard also shows a lot of respect for Hildegard's political decision-making skills. Next, Oberstein. I was almost a bit angry at him for using Reinhard's last moments as an opportunity to get rid of Terraists once and for all. But honestly, it worked out perfectly. They did get rid of cult. No matter what, Oberstein does have the Empire's best of interest. I think it was neither planned nor a miscalculation that he ended up dying. Imo, Oberstein probably didn't plan to die, but would be okay with becoming a sacrifice. After all, in this new era, without Reinhard's presence, whatever else Oberstein will do, would most likely piss the other admirals off. Thus without him around, everyone might be more at ease. Oberstein is definitely the most controversial character in the series, and while I've liked and disliked him like a sinusoidal graph throughout the journey, I ultimately respect him. Especially when he told the doctors that "it's a waste of skill and effort to pretend you can help someone who won't make it." He's really one of the well-written characters in LotGH. Now for a quick comment about how I felt about the series as a whole. I agree with Feorg's post. Aside from that post, I agree with others who felt that FPA wasn't as interesting to watch, as most of them weren't given much or any character development, aside from being happy-go-lucky, chattering about women, or not being 30 yet. Rosenritters were also annoying to watch given their super elite skills. And ofc, beating a dead horse, but definitely the portrayal of Terraists. There could've been more done with Rubinsky as well, given how much he had done in the first two seasons(?). I feel like scoring the series as an 8 is a bit harsh for my usual rating, but I'm not going to lie, there were few parts throughout the series where I could barely pay attention to the whole episode without pausing at least twice to do something else. Of course, the amount of episodes that were like that for me weren't many. Overall, I highly enjoyed the series. I fell in love with many of the characters, appreciated the usage of classical scores, and most of all, enjoyed the themes which were presented. I love coming out from a series having learned or reflected on something, especially a topic I've never encountered or thought about before. Having never really been into history nor delved into politics, I really enjoyed thinking about (and reading comments in the forum) the idea of a good autocracy being better than a good democracy, or a bad autocracy being worse than a bad democracy. Although Yang wasn't among my top favorite characters, he has a lot of interesting insights. As people have said since the beginning of the series, he's a very quotable character. Anyways, there's no doubt the series deserves the praises it gets. I'm glad to have learned things from the experience! |

Phenomenal anime, and deserved all the hype that surrounds it. Managed to have a huge cast and to not flesh a good portion of them out, but also moments to shine and leave an impact. And fucking Oberstein the MVP of Empire, a little sad to see him die, but I'd like to think it was all part of his plan. All and all, fantastic anime and easily amongst the best I've ever seen (and probably ever will see). |

I don't see how anybody can hate Oberstein. He was the only man in the Empire who put the interests of the people over nonsense like honor. |

This epitomizes the sentiment of (some) Low Level anime viewers, who can only be titillated and aroused from their mental stupor by flashy and nonsensical trash like Girls Und Panzer, K-On, and TTGL among others. I'll commend Izumi for atleast being honest and putting himself in the spotlight to represent the dregs of anime fandom. His posts have presented the strongest argument against us True Logh Fans exposing the ignorant masses to the Greatness of Logh. Many are even more impatient, have less of an anime repertoire under the belt (a prerequisite to fully understand how far above Logh is from the heaps of trash out there, as well as getting exposed to the Legendary Seiyuu cast who help Carry Logh to Unprecedented Heights), and are even more dim-witted, all of which culminate in them being a stain and a detriment to the Logh community and a blight to its Rating and Prestige. I will take personal responsibility for helping to push Izumi to watch Logh months ago. It's best to only bestow Logh upon those you are certain have the patience and the capability to appreciate long Masterpieces like Monster or HunterXHunter etc that build up and flesh out the characters and their universe for an immersive experience. They also should show appreciation for Anime Staples from the 80's and 90's like NGE, Mobile Suit Gundam, Dragon Ball, Berserk etc even if they aren't the most flashy or impressive animation wise (after all one of the most ignorant criticisms of Logh is its animation). Predominately Dub viewers are also a no go, since acknowledging and being familiar with the strength of the dozens of Legendary Seiyuu and their mastery of the characters is a great boon to ones enjoyment, while a disdain for anime in its proper language can be a deal breaker. There are many more considerations to who should or shouldn't be granted the privilege to experience Logh, but they are beyond the scope of this post and I'd rather not clog up the forums of the final episode of the True Elite dealing with the unworthy. That being said it's incumbent upon us True Logh Fans to atleast encourage those who have unjustly rated Logh, while simultaneously acknowledging their inability to fathom its depths and insurmountable strength, to ABSTAIN from giving it a rating. Lest they fret and blather in protest, follow up with the advice to give Logh another try years from now in the future when/IF they have matured and expanded their repertoire of anime staples and are ready to properly (re)watch Logh. If at that stage they still want to rate it less than a 10 (or perhaps a 9..) then so be it. This will effectively neuter the damaging votes from most of the unenlightened "viewers" since they are unlikely to revisit Logh and they atleast won't desecrate it with their rating. The few viewers that had potential to grasp Logh's greatness but weren't able to their 1st go around may be able to at a later date, since they would have already shown a surprising level of Persistence, Patience, and Maturity by giving it another try in the future when they are more mentally capable and stable. As such they are much more likely to see the initial folly of their ways and the inherent pitfalls of their youth (whether in terms of age or anime experience) and as such a more proper rating in accordance with Logh's Greatness will be forthcoming. I know some may consider my observations harsh and Elitist, but I am not addressing them. I won't bash any rogue Logh fan who disagrees with my input, nor will i try to convince them. They have already done their job by atleast properly rating Logh a 10 and putting it on their Favorite Anime Lists and even added Logh Characters to their Favorites. I am speaking to my Fellow True Logh Fans who realize it's Greatness and Value Defending its Integrity and Honor. It is imperative and incumbent on you to realize that many are a lost cause with no salvation, and as such should be skipped over and discouraged from venturing into Mazes that are Unnavigable to them. It may not be politically correct to share the Truth, but when it comes to Logh I will do my Job and not be a Trunihit. |

Wow, so many things left for this episode: I had completely forgotten about Schumacher (lol at Michael and Ralph Schumacher). On the other hand it's good that the last Kaiser didn't suffer such an awful death. I didn't see that coming. So Oberstein turned out to be the MVP. I hate and love that bastard... Now Mittemayer is all alone: all his friends died. Also, WHAT happened to Emil?. I bet, I bet he was a Terraist: that would've explained why Reinhard was sick, the strange exchange between him and Yang Wenli after the Vermillion battle.... Although I guess such a plot twist wouldn't have fitted the series. Just as I expected this was a story of epic proportions. It took me some time until I realize that LoGH focus was on the interactions instead of the action and I think that most of the time classical music didn't fit what was going on at the time (but when it did, oh boy..) but I have no complains honestly. I liked that it didn't have plot twists. the plot seemed to naturally flow, as if it was the natural course of actions (though for the most part). I'll probably rewatch it at some point, as befits a series this big. |

It flowed like a good history book and meshed well with incorporating the philosophies of history. |
