Very sweet and touching episode. It was heartwarming to see Yuuki get the chance to see the real world again after such a long time, and it was great to see Asuna finally have "the talk" with her mother and reconcile with her. Looking forward to seeing how this ends.

Yukki's day at school/town was very touching. Especially the dialogue/interactions. Kaa-san stole this episode for me though. It's just... beautiful.

I've always said it, but I really like that both the virtual world and real world get focused on. That's the charm of this franchise for me.

Yukki... will you make me tear one last time? She's my daughter favourite female character in the franchise by now, and I wonder if she'll give Heathcliff/Kayaba a run for his money.

Well, it's that time. See you there.

Great episode, from Yuuki being able to enjoy school and other things she wouldnt be able to.
To Asuna's mother accepting the fact that Asuna can make her own choices.

And so Yuuki helps Asuna rekindle her bond with her mother. Sweet stuff to be sure. The background imagery really helped set the mood, and the somber tone was lovely, best episode so far. All's that's left is to say goodbye I suppose.

TBH, I don't really like Yuuki. I mean yeah, she's nice and has a dark past and all that jazz, but I find her really......flat. She was literally introduced to be killed off! That doesn't mean I hate her- I DID cry for her, but still, I just find them making a whole arc for her and making it painfully obvious she was gonna die a bit too much. :/

Well said. Except, I didn't cry for her.

*cough* Sachi. *cough*

As I said on the last episode discussion thread, this arc isn't really about Yuuki. It's only about try-hard Asuna's "character development".

That was a sweet episode.

It was nice to see Asuna take Yuki to her school and show her around and then go to Yuki's old house, awww. Then Yuki told her to tell her mom how she feels and she finally did after taking her mother in the virtual world and making her remember the grandparents house, I see now why Asuna likes the cabin so much, that's nice. She does have emotions too! It was nice to see her cry. Plus she finally agreed to carry on letting Asuna go to the school she does now which is nice.

Not quite as upbeat as I had expected it to be, but still a good episode. It was nice to see Asuna and her mom finally get on the same page, and taking her into the virtual world to see it was a good choice. Yuuki going to school and seeing her house again, and the talk her and Asuna had, was a nice touch too. Next episode is going to be extremely sad, I assume.

I am very torn. So very torn.
I know this series gets a lot of hate, and at some degree I understand why, and then there are times where I can't help but love this anime.
Times like this episode that makes me feel like this series gets unnecessary much flag for being what it is.
The struggle Asuna goes through with her mother not understanding her world, is almost identical to what relation I have with my father, and is something I can sympathize with from both sides. It's never easy, what is more worthwhile, happiness or the wellbeing of a sustainable future?
Every time I'm gonna hear anyone flag me for liking this anime I will tell them 'Yes, I know it has flaws, and it has arcs that can be borderline boring, but damnit, when it does something good it really nails it!'
When an anime makes me think about relations I have in the real world, and tries to give me advice on how to make it better, then damnit, I will love it even more!

Fuck my feels.

I'm glad Asuna and her Mom could reconcile. We really don't haven't a lot of time in the world, we really need to do a better job at understanding each other if we want to be happy individuals.

One more before the end. I can't hold these feels much longer.

q.q wonder why she can't just accept the feeling
Hope this might change her in the last episode

Because when you're an adult, sometimes it's easier not to show any of your weaknesses. Especially with a career like Asuna's mom is doing. She's a leader. And people follow leaders who are confident in their abilities and are strong.

Her days of crying were so long ago, it's only natural she doesn't like doing it.

This second half really slowed down its pace, scaling down its story to focus on Asuna and a number of characters specific to this arc. It doesn't feel like a story part of the main SAO plot, but rather a side story to explore the series' world a bit. It's pretty sappy and kind of heavy handed in its drama, but I'm actually impressed by how well it's conducting itself. I'm enjoying the slower moments, as they really take their time to get across what the characters are going through. Plus, I really like the idea of giving Yuuki the ability to attend school as she did, if just for a small while. The use of technology in this series has been focused a lot on gaming, but it's cool to see things like this. It really speaks a lot as to how SAO's future works, and I appreciate that bit of world building.

Very satisfying episode. Kirito sets up a system so Yuuki can view the real world from Asuna's point of view. She got her wish of going to school and seeing her home one final time granted to her. In addition, Yuuki gives Asuna words of encouragement which gives Asuna the courage to confront of her mom about how she truly feels. Her mother than respects Asuna's wishes. It was a great episode. Honestly it almost feels like I'm watching a different anime. The quality of this arc in comparison to the others is very apparant. I hope the final episode concludes what has otherwise been a great arc.

Loved this episode but it did have issues.

Yuuki not having a goal of leaving her mark in the real world doesn't make sense when her entire goal in ALO was to leave her mark, her mark in ALO is literally data that could vanish at any moment. Her ultimate goal should have been leaving her mark in the real world.........but no.

Asuna not mentioning Yuuki whatsoever in her talk with mom about her dream didn't make sense. Instead, it's a story about grandparents. I get that it worked as two birds one stone situation which made her mom cry and explaining her dream but Yuuki not being a part of it is messed up.

Still, this is easily and by a landslide the best story arc in the entirety of SAO. This is the only thing I would recommend in SAO. I hope the last episode follows through.

It's weird how the scene where I teared up a bit was Asuna's, when she showed that to her mother, telling her about what her grandparents said, instead of Yuuki. It was sad, but the problem is finally solved!

A little more insight on the story Yuuki was reading and how it relates to the story:

-Summary- you can skip this if you want

The short story is called "The Truck" by Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, written in the 1920s, and is often used for educational purposes for middle schools in Japan.

The story is about an 8 year old, Ryohei's fascination with the construction workers' mining cart outside his village, something used for a construction project meant to build a railway track to connect two cities. One day, Ryohei gives in to his curiosity and asks to help the construction workers push the mining cart up the hills. Throughout this adventure, he learns the hard work of adults from the need to push the cart up difficult hills, but also at the same time, he realizes, that the longer he pushes, the longer he has to enjoy the downhill thrill.
As time slowly passes without him noticing, he came to realize that he's straying a far distance from home, but as he knows the construction workers won't turn around until they've reached their destination, he kept quite and continued to push without uttering a word. By the time night fell, the workers had told him that he should head on home.
The distance home was much longer on foot. As an eight year old, this journey he has to make to return home has far exceeded any trip he has ever gone on. However, he pushed on without utter a word or shedding a single tear, only holding onto the wish of "if he could just live."
When he finally arrived home, it was already twilight. As if the pain from his body and the loneliness of the road suddenly kicked in after a feeling of relief, he cried and cried, he did not speak as no words could summarize his feelings.

After growing up and finding a job in Tokyo, Ryohei would sometimes remember this story for some reason...

-Importance-
The short story's moral is something along the lines of a child having a peek into the world of adults. The first few sentences of the short story, the part that Yuuki read, is the part that describes Ryohei's fascination with people from another world (adults) and his desire to become them, to live with them, and to do the things they do with them.

However, the later parts, the parts concerning growing up and moving from a rural area to work at a big city, and the periodic thoughts of home, that throughout all sorts of loneliness and darkness in the road of growing up and working, the only salvation that will never change is "home," that, what Asuna really wants to do is not to walk a path of lonely darkness, but one that could shine brightness on other people, is relevant in what Asuna was saying to her mom. I'm sure that the reason Asuna cried when Yuuki was reading "The Truck" was due to understanding Yuuki's desire to be in the real world, in a school as a student, but also because she realized then and there, what she really wanted to do, and how she could get through to her mom.

SAO is generally a very otaku, feels, epicness focused show. Being so, the show isn't very deep in a narrative and artistic sense, but Mother's Rosario was indeed quite complex!
Sucks for the people who dropped the show due to fan service and change of genre in Fairy Dance, because SAO II's Phantom Bullet and Mother's Rosario was just absolutely great.
