This episode was good!
The part where that guy grabs Sara and brings her into that room, sure creeped me out.
Also, I really hope Hamdo dies.

I'm not really sure what the weapon was that they used to destroy the enemy ship.
Wonder if there''s any radiation involved.

This is quite the show, mainly about the horrors of war and excessive military power but it doesn't seem cliche.

The eerie mood and the dramatic warfare sure brings out the type of anime it is.
However, I could've done without the intended raping scene... Still trying to figure out what was it's purpose other than to show how grotesque the lifestyle in the warring nation is...

The purpose, eh... to denounce such things too, not just show the grotesque lifestyle of a nation at times of war. This is a common occurrence everywhere even when there is no war, so I don't think the 'war' part is important here.

Sara is damn unlucky; get's confused with Lala Ru so she's taken away. Then they find out she's not Lala Ru, jail her up, and find the real person (along with the kid). She still doesn't know why she's here, etc. It's starting to become more tense in Hellywood and they decide to take it out on Sara. They found a purpose for her, since they couldn't just send her back to her home and tell everyone about her experience since there would always be at least 1 curious soul to believe her (doubt they have memory-erasing technology).

This anime is far darker than I had expected, very nice surprise and the story is developing itself well for now.

Same thing I thought. I thought that was quite a well thought touch, since it all tied in together.

This anime is great, it shows the harshness and reality of war and what these kids have to go through. It deals with survivability and it has a very intense and dark atmosphere that shows the cruelty. If only some newer series that try to replicate the same elements were this good, but unfortunately they have to throw in cute girls and fan service to ruin it all. Thats why i will always enjoy these classics. They masterfully directed.

;-; I tried not to believe it, but then all the torn buttons on her shirt really ruined it for me. D: It's a good show, but I really wish they didn't show that part...I wish I had an undo button for my brain.

Whew, talk about heavy. Anyway, this series has been really well directed so far and how that rape scene was handled was probably some of the "best" stuff so far. It's amazing how disturbing that was without even showing anything.

But, you know what really bothered me? How Nabuca and Boo just tossed Sara in the room without any hesitation at all, which makes me wonder "how many times have they done something of this nature for them to show no remorse at all?"

Sara...I'm so sad... yet at the same time I'M SO MAD. BLOODY HELL I WANT TO KILL ALL THESE CHARACTERS.

I hate this anime. It shows the sickness in humanity. Makes me disgusted.

Torture, rape, and the horrors of war. As gruesome as it is, anime like this needs to exist precisely because of how awful those things are. It's definitely becoming more interesting and drawing me in.

Brutal, cruel yet brilliant. I cannot believe how good this series is.

The way they handled what happened to Sara was a masterstroke of writing/direction. We didn't see anything except her being locked in the cell with that brute and the broken buttons/tears afterwards, but it hits you like a sledgehammer in the gut anyway. And after Shu had said to her "everything is going to be allright, everythins is going to be..." OMG. This is is some hard stuff.

Not one for symbolism . . . Or rather interpreting it, though I thought the flower represented hope. Because not only did Sarah's position get infantly worse, but so did Shu's.

Though, either way, that sucks! And feel bad for Sarah, I can totally see her committing suicide in the next episode.

Yeah it could probably be interpreted a couple of different ways, but I interpreted it as Sara being "deflowered." The flower was white to show what was once her purity.

Anyways good episode; on to the next!

This was a very difficult episode to watch, it was well directed but a gut wrenching experience. Watching the pain Sara and Shu were going threw and the lack of empathy from Nabuca and Boo. I just had no idea the series would be this heavy, I suppose I should brace myself for worse to come.

I'm with you all on the 'poor Sara' front, but it does explain some things about Hellywood - how the fuck (aside from Abelia being very competent and personally loyal to him) Hamdo has not been assassinated yet, for one. If he is *that* willing to pander to his subjects' worst instincts, and combines it with excellent (and historically probable) rhetoric and brainwashing from a very young age... Yup. This series is so very, very good.

Brilliantly done interrogation scenes, and I think that the way Shu was hung would mean he would not have died too soon of respiratory failure? You just have to worry about serious heatstroke. And blood loss. It's the little details.

The main issue in this episode was not the rape (although it was brilliantly directed), it was the MASSIVE BLOODY AMOUNTS OF FRIENDLY FIRE to which Hamdo subjected his soldiers. A decision Abelia disagreed with, clearly, but carried out anyway.

And the pendant being lost might be for the best, huh? Well, yes, make the population desperate enough and Hamdo's plans of conquest start looking not only feasible, but *necessary*...

This episode was quite disturbing. I need answers - who was that random guy Sara was taken to? Seriously, who was he? He didn't look like an officer or anyone important. Is he just some hobo they keep around to rape the prisoners?

Lack of clarity aside, the scene was one of the best executed so far. It was really chilling.

Man I really hoped those invaders somehow saved Shu, but they got one-shoted so I don't know if anything like that is going to happen anytime soon. Also, what's super fucked up, is I think that Sara was raped by that old weird that pulled her into that room. This show is definitely darker than I think I expected

lala ru has blue hair, sara has blonde, how can anyone make this kind of a mistake? blue hair is not that common...

well, when you've been watching anime and reading manga for a long time, you know rape is not a matter of if, but when. At least this was pretty tastefully done. So we've already got hanging by the ribs and rape for the protagonists in episode 3... hoo boy

I can't quite put my finger on it, but the tone/atmosphere along with mad king Hamdo's demeanor builds into something reminiscent of Final Fantasy VI for me... along with faint touches of 1984's.

This series is getting progressively darker at insane rates. The rape, the interrogation, the post-apocalyptic, war-torn landscape. Rough shit.
