Oh nice, this season gave Ogata more chance to shine and it's his bravery that makes him a powerful character.

We also got to see a glimpse of the battlefield, which is as bloody as I had expected. Once again, this show reinforces the idea that no one is safe when a battle breaks out.

We've gotten a few character focused episodes this season now. Earlier with Tsukishima now with Ogata. His sniper battle with Vasili went well all things considered. Didn't land a killing blow but still took the Russian out of the picture for the time being with a shoot through the cheek. Standing still there eating snow so Vasili wouldn't even seen his breath. The ultimate fake out looking like a scarecrow, covering his tracks back up the coffin. Totally fooled Vasili. Ogata nearly lost his life doing so but he pulled it off. Got really sick in the process leading to those vivid hallucinations of his brother.

We learned in past seasons of the show that Ogata was the child of a high ranking general and his mistress now we see Ogata younger half brother whom their father had with his legal wife later on. Ogata and his brother's morals clashing along with Tsurumi interfering and bringing Ogata to his side leading Ogata to kill his brother in the middle of that battle. At the time when Ogata tried to get his brother to kill that Russian and his brother refused saying everyone feels guilt from killing and he didn't want that in his soul. Ogata saying to him he never felt guilt and his brother responding one day Ogata would understand. In this episode we see that day come with the hallucinations Ogata sees being his guilt for killing his own brother all those years ago. Loved the development for him.

Glad that Shirashi stuck around to guard Asirpa from Kiroranke and Ogata. Sugimoto trusted him to take care of her and the final scene of this episode made me happy that Shirashi stuck to that. Kiroranke apparently having helped kill the Russian Czar back in his teenage years along with Asirpa father. They seemed to be off on a good new path but that shoulder bone did start to crack into that bad omen.

Shiraishi always gets me xD

Great epsiode again. Ogatas backstory was fleshed out further in all it's twistedness and tragedy. The cognitive dissonance was strong in him, but in the end it seems like he's able to feel guilty after all. I really love his character.

Ogata and his dark memories can have their own spin-off anime. There are so many of them!

Virgin man is a flagbearer is a new knowlege to me, too bad we don't have that kind of war anymore, I'd love to deflower him.

More character focused episodes that deepen the mystery between the Japanese and Russians...and Asirpa's father Aca/Nopperabo, instead of Kiroranke, was the real culprit behind the assassination of the Emperor of Russia. What scary misgivings.

Continuing Ogata and the Russian sniper's showdown, a decoy just to scave off the smart Russian, WHAT A BADASS Ogata is. But even strong characters like Ogata have a part of their history that just recalls the wreaking havoc of remembering such memories, in his case: a fallen Private-turned-General of "brothers" in the Japanese-Russo war, way before the 7th Division with Lieutenant Tsurumi was ever conceived. "To kill or not to kill", that's not the question, but the battle for survival hangs in the balance, that's why killing Yuusuke the "brother" ended up being a resolution in and of itself.

The hard-ass Shiraishi actually using his brain for once, but in the face of the Ainu, he has no choice but to stay around with Kiroranke, Asirpa and Ogata. Gievn how much Nopperabo has indirectly given consequences to the Hokkaido Ainu, it's a hard task to just let the matter of the gold loose. His burden and the others are of different levels, but glad he still stuck onto them for more dick-defying moments.

A bad omen arising...who's the next to die?

A lot of focus on Ogata in this episode which is great. The showdown with him and the Russian sniper was badass.

Shiraishi is a man of culture lol.
Him not leaving the group was nice. Asirpa needs all the help.

This episode was pretty good and has nice contrasting moral viewpoints going on during the flashbacks. Golden Kamuy is still not close to AOTS, much less AOTY for me, but the impressive display of worldbuilding and introspective antagonist work really works extremely well for me despite the overarching story not really clicking for me for me personally like it did in the previous seasons....at least not yet.

wow this show is something else entirely isn't it? it's what I'm most looking forward to these past few weeks. I feel like it's one of the most original anime I've ever seen. the endings are always top and they always fit so nicely with the ending of the episodes. no wonder the manga won best manga prize couple of years ago. Golden Kamuy never fails to be AOTS material at all. Ogata was an absolute unit throughout the whole sniper battle and we got some more backstory during his time in the war. And the man Shiraishi is still the man of culture he is. The end with the shoulder blade cracking was foreboding since Kiroranke is a sketchy guy since he needs Asirpa to find the gold and he along with Asirpa’s dad were responsible for killing the Russian monarch. More people need to watch this series. It needs more love.

Ogata did really well in his fight against the Russian sniper. His strategy of keeping super still by eating snow, while making a path towards the Uilta coffin to trick the Russian sniper was a high risk move, but it paid off for him. However, he did develop a fever, so Asirpa and the locals got to work to heal him up.

During this, we also got a flashback t the war again, but from Ogata's view this time, with his brother who was a flag bearer, who resisted the charm of the ladies at the brothel and simply refused to kill any Russian enemies whatsoever. In the end, Ogata killed him off.

Shiraishi's still funny as ever, but I do admire him for not wanting to leave the group. I hope he doesn't have any regrets, as unbeknownst to them, the reindeer bone has predicted a bad route for them. Sugimoto's group must be close of them, now.

I don't like Ogata, never have and probably never will cause the man is fucked up but he is definitely one of the most interesting characters in this anime. He's killed and deceived so many people without feeling a thing and it was so intriguing to learn that there is at least one kill he feels guilty about, that still haunts him.

I'm so glad Shiraishi stayed with Asirpa cause I'd have lost some respect for him if he hadn't. Ogata has always been shady and Kiroranke isn't exactly trustworthy either so I'm happy he didn't leave her alone with them!

I like how Ogata's shot of Vasily's cheeks/mouth area sort of mirrors his own face markings.
Also, the bone that split into a "bad sign" at the end, once Shiraishi rejoined Asirpa, Kiroranke and Ogata... People coming from behind + bad sign. Is Shiraishi the bad sign?
This anime keeps me on my toes; 80% of the time I realise what is happening, it's already happened. And I love it. Can't wait for next week's episode.

More on Ogata's past in the army, while Kiroranke comes clean to admitting killing the russian emperor with Asirpa's dad.

Shiraishi is a man of culture, who doesn't like them blondes! Glad to see he didn't get left behind at the end, however I do feel like that changed that fortune from the cracked bone a bit. That's quite the bad sign.

So Ogata survived the sniper battle, but he came down with a fever. It is also revealed that Kiroranke along with Asirpa's dad was responsible for killing the Russian emperor several years ago. We get a look at Ogata's backstory and we are reminded that he's not to be trusted because he is working with Tsurumi to help him find the gold. Ogata killing his brother is starting to take a toll on him emotionally through his hallucinations. Shiraishi tried to convince Asirpa to run away with him, but Asirpa decided to stay. So Shiraishi decided to stay with the group so that he can keep Asirpa out of trouble until they find the gold.

One has to truly appreciate how risky that tactic was for Ogata to use. He was banking on using his enemy's own experience against him by causing him to overanalyze the situation when he could have just as easily shot the "decoy" as soon as he discovered it.

What a madman.

AHHHHHH here it is, the most mortifying backstory (for me) in GK. The anime now delves more into Ogata's (twisted) character and introduces that he's being 'haunted' by his own brother. Ogata's obsession with "blood", nobility, pureness, guilt, and how people (especially his brother) are just "like him" comes into light. Take note of this fellow viewers ;^; And damn man, I really love this skillful sniper. That gamble he took shows how dedicated he is to the role.

On a side note, that ending scene with Shiraishi upholding his promise with Sugimoto is soooo asfgkfgj; sweet! Love that one whole still cut of his penis charm lol. So now that the fortune "someone comes from behind" is fulfilled (Shiraishi coming after Asirpa), the bone gets new cracks. I noticed that here it's translated as "something bad will happen". It's translated into something a lot more ominous in the manga though -

Ogata took a huge gamble there, imagine if the Russian dude just went ahead and shot what he assumed was the decoy. It was nice to also get an expansion of his backstory.

The ending of this episode was quite ominous. As soon as Shiraishi decides to stay with Asirpa and the others, the bone developed those cracks that signal that something bad will happen. Definitely not a good sign.

Another amazing episode!

Yeah, so thats how you would end up a tireful battle between the snipers, Ogata. Such a brilliant method, silently led the opponent into thinking his body was trap, and leading him to another setup trap. When they shot it, Ogata already ready to shot his counter moves. Unfortunately, Vasili took the action too fast, until he didn't realized he get a wrong conclusion, took the bait, like i said before. As a result, a nice little shot at his cheek, ended up their battle in the middle of a snow rain. RIP, or could he survive?

Well, well, its not like Ogata had a solid win. Since he was indeed suffer such a massive sickness after holding too much stress on his shoulder after facing that battles. Lucky for him, Ainu peoples had their potential local healing treatment, that resting him in a better terms. A great hunter like him, even had a nightmare and a little glimpse about a death, after having such a miserable halucination of his brother about the Russo-Japaness war incident. Yeah, he shot him at the head back there, like he did to Vasili lately. Thats when he realized the same feeling of a sickness the brother had, and led him into a consecutive nightmare flashback. Poor Ogata, but its really understandable with his current conditions, after such an intensed battle.

About Kiroranke issues. Wilk, aka Asirpa's father first met with him at that terrorize matter. Wilk was the one who took the action, and wanted to free the eastern territory. But was that right? I still didn't believed Kiroranke story as the whole complete story. And it seems Asirpa herself wanted another proves to see how far his father involved into that mess and the truth behind the ainu gold stashes. What a brave girl!

Well, Shiraishi had a good feeling there, to stay out of trouble from Kiroranke's plan. But, he forgot about Sugimoto's promises in the past and almost getting left behind. Lol. Even if he hate the group, he must stick on them to proved himself to be useful when meeting with Sugimoto again. Great choice, the king of escape! So, who cares about that shitty bad sign. Lets storm out the russian territory with your greatness, Shiraishi!

Ogata is such a great character, I love seeing more about him.

Asirpa being left alone with Kiroranke and Ogata made me nervous, I'm glad Shiraishi decided to go with them, but... is actually him the harbinger of bad omen?

I swear Wilk is everywhere xD Now it was revealed that he was Kiroranke's partner in crime back in Russia and that he was the direct killer of that time's monarch. This guy sure traveled a lot, uh?

So far, probably the best episode of this third season and easily among the best ones of the series as a whole. Ogata's backstory was fleshed out even more and it seems that despite having such messed up psychopathic mindset, he's still able to feel certain amount of guilt for having killed his brother. That alone already gives him a lot of depth as character and I'm pretty sure he will eventually have to face those demons so I'm absolutely looking forward to the moment when his brother's "ghost" comes haunt him again.

And as for the last part of the episode, I'm pretty sure the "someone coming from behind" omen was referring to Sugimoto finally crossing paths with Asirpa but that reindeer's bone cracking one more time at the end, referring to a bad omen in the process, gave me such a bad feeling... and the fact how the scene happened right after Shiraishi changed his mind only makes me feel more worried now. Seriously, I hope nothing bad happens to Shiraishi because I think I might actually cry if he ends up dying...

I am so proud of Shiraisi! Yes, you must protect Asirpa with all your might even if your dick will hurt hhahhaha.

Golden Kamuy is really doing a great job in fleshing out its characters. The flashbacks are always engaging and the characterization process executed almost perfectly. So this time with Ogata's "hallucinations". That part when he shot his brother's head and the brother looked back. That was kinda creepy but at the same time full of impact when they said that the sick are being hunted by the wicked things.

I kinda miss Sugamoto and the gang already😢

Another amazing episode, Wilk stared at that emperor right in they eye while throwing the bomb. If that isn't badass then I don't know what is.

Ogata out there playing 4D sniper chess. I wonder if the Russian sniper is still alive though, Ogata sniped him straight through his cheeks, I think that's survivable.

Damn, I got chills from that ending when the reindeer bone created that bad fortune. Next episode will definitely go back to the Sugimoto group, looking forward to it.

The soundtrack in the beginning reminded me of the James Bond theme song.

I didn't understand the strategy in the sniper duel.

Oh man, why did Ogata have to kill the flag-bearer? Was he just envious of his purity or was there something more to it? There must be something more to it because Tsurumi seemed to want him dead too.

Pretty weak episode for me, in all honesty. The Ogata backstory, while interesting in isolation, feels entirely unrelated and wholly irrelevant to everything else that's happening here and doesn't really provide any meaningful new insights as to the kind of character Ogata is. That aside, while his double-bluff decoy to win the sniper duel was clever, it's hilariously contrived that a bullet to the jaw killed the Russian sniper when the Ainu guy he shot in the skull last episode managed to survive.

The only part of this episode I truly enjoyed was the reveal at the start that Wilk was also directly involved with the murder of the Russian emperor as that was an interesting extra twist to add to an already-complex situation.

Well its interesting to see the demons which haunt Ogata given he shot his own flag bearer through the back of his head. He aint no war hero, he's a down right stone cold killing machine.

I'm no expert on bone reading either, but if you read some chicken bones fortune after tossing them in a pan, then leaving it out for several hours and something slightly knocks the pan and moves them, is it then a different future foretold. Damn those animal part readings be tricky.

Tsukishima and Shiraishi are the best characters in this show as the every-mans with a lot of depth. I'm impressed Shiraishi figured out Kiro-chan was up to no good, and I think Asirpa made a big mistake not following his advice here given we don't know what Kiroranke is planning and Ogata is all kinds of twisted. Kiroranke seems like a nice guy but everything we've seen of him so far is lies and manipulation.
When Shiraishi said "You find the most likely one to survive and stick to it", I thought he was talking about Sugimoto but he went after Asirpa instead which is sweet, they've genuinely become good friends.

I thought about that too. If the bullet went in one cheek and out the other he may have survived it. It's not unlike Golden Kamuy to have characters survive grievous injury. He might still be alive.

Ogata is an artisan. He lives and dies by his trade, sparing no expense. Ogata's resentment for his blood (or lack thereof) was definitely nott alleviated by his brother being an embodiment of fortitude. Unlike his father, Ogata's brother did not deserve his fate.

Yes, I believe he regrets killing his brother.
In his fever dream, note the part of how Yuusaku stood and stared back at Ogata after getting shot and how Ogata caught in a surprised look, like he got scared of being seen doing something bad.
Subconsciously, he felt guilty but suppressed those feelings in order to survive.

Why Ogata? That was a mistake killing ur brother.

The Russian sniper makes a mistake. He should have go first for the "decoy Ogata" instead of the coffin.
Ogata really took a great risk by exposing himself easily.

The end scene now confirm a bad sign for the group.

I was far more interested in that flashback. He regrets killing his brother from my point of view. And sadly something bad is going to happen!
