This movie couldve been better if it was focused more on how the relationship between the two progressed. But it didn't. Because of a super AI killing terrorist virus that can control the whole world just because it hacked into some Adventure Quest Club Penguin type of website that almost all the citizens in the world had access to. Even the president has his own OZ account. But that aside I liked the movie even though most parts of the movie were bland, and they also tried to make us cry because of the grandmothers death. It couldve been a lot better if it became a rom-com with digimons. |

I like creative anime like this, it kind of reminds me of Serial Experiments Lain but done way better. Though, it stumbled a bit about 30 minutes before it ended, it still was a surprisingly fun anime. It made me feel like I was really with these characters, watching them play video games and being confused at the world. The dub is pretty good, the art isn't much special but the animation is unique. The characters are fine. Grade: B- |

Boring story, bland characters, slow, and the romance was stupid. Nice animation though and there were pretty colors, I guess? 5/10 the Digimon movie was better |

Ah, that was fantastic. I'm a sucker for films like this. Just the right balance of cheesy, heartwarming, and creative. Feels very Disney and Ghibli. The world of Oz was beautiful colourful chaos. The soundtrack was fantastic. The characters were lovable. The big family made me really nostalgic. I've only ever had such large family gatherings a couple times in my life, and we're not as crazy close as these characters are, but this is the kind of movie that gives you all the feels regardless. Honestly, when I was little I had a "crush" on my uncle too. You know when you're a kid, you're very easily impressed, and puppy love just comes so easily. I thought he was the coolest person alive. Natsuki, I feel you. The world's reliance on Oz was stretching it. No social media platform would ever have that much worldwide power (though it could be taken as social commentary). But overall enjoyablility made me brush that aside in favour of just immersing myself in the story. It's relaxing not to be so critical all the time and just enjoy something for the fun of it. |

Ending was sweet, I wish there were more screen time for Natsuki and Kenji tho, and less action scene because the whole action sequence started from mid point of the movie until about the end of the movie kinda bored me, that's about 40 minutes worth of the movie. At least there was some sort of romantic conclusion between both leads, else I would've not been satisfied with it. |

So I wrote down a buncha things while watching this -I didn't expect such a trippy opening to a movie titled "Summer Wars" -That's some really detailed animation with the bunny dude -I kinda hope the math stuff will be prominent -That is quite the fourth introduction to Natsuki's family for Kenji -The facial expressions are pretty detailed, from the scene where Kenji first meets the grandmother -The Shota guy's voice seems really familiar -Don't tell me I have to have the entirety of the Jinnouchi family completely memorized from the big family dinner -That was an eerily detailed drinking sequence that had pretty much no bearing on what was going on -I have no clue what that card game was but it looks like Kenji also has no clue so it kinda works -Cryptic messages in the middle of the night -Pretty pointless pan over pretty much everything getting illuminated by the sunrise with frenzied pen scribblings in the background -Kinda a weird juxtaposition of conflicts since an internet superdatabase isn't something I'd associate with the countryside -JinNEETchi bro dude person seems to have an idea of what's going on -Oh hey JinNEETchi bro dude person is the rabbit dude -The fight choreography in OZ is actually pretty spectacular, and suddenly this got a ton more interesting -Seems like Wabisuke was reading some sort of contract, which is pretty suspicious -*pretty much all of the Jinnouchis staring at the news* yeah I think Kenji might be fucked -Kinda scary how that one aunt got all of that Kenji information -That's some steamy forbidden romance goin on -Apparently the card game from earlier was called Hanafuda -This is actually pretty scary to think about -looks like JinNEETchi's name is actually Kazuma -Apparently Natsuki's grandmother's name is Sakae, and she has tons of connections. Seems like she prioritizes the lives of others over people celebrating her own birthday, which is pretty noble -Yeah I kinda saw that reveal coming -The US military is always the final boss, isn't it -Oshit grandma knows how to fight -Playing a game of Hanafuda where the prize is arranged marriage -What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck I did not expect that to happen so soon -Kinda interesting how the soundtrack was minimalistic after the death -Also kinda interesting how the Jinnouchis are eating what seems to be breakfast while spread out among multiple tables -Mansuke's daughter is a bitch -That computer is giant -Rest in pieces the koi pond -I just now noticed Kazuma = Kazma when they started putting ice cubes around that big-ass computer -Once again the OZ fight choreography is pretty amazing -Wow the disarray within the family is real with Shota taking all of those ice cubes -Getting SamFlam vibes from Kazuma flying into the giant thing -Seems like Wabisuke was adopted by the big lady herself, but maybe I'm interpreting Sakae's letter wrong -That forklift just can't get a break -No one told me this was a game anime -I got vibes from that one Digimon movie from the first half of the film but I'm really feeling them now -The Jinnouchi family's reaction to the powerup was pretty charming -That was the flashiest game of whatever that was that I've ever seen -I think every single OZ sequence was pretty spectacularly animated -Rest in pieces the house -Hey good for Ryouhei despite being away for this whole ordeal -That ending scene was really sweet I pretty much loved any scene that involved grandma Jinnouchi because of her general selfless attitude and because of how central she was to the family. I kinda sensed that she was gonna die after she called all those relatives, but I didn't expect it to be in the middle of the movie. Other than Sakae, I didn't really find any of the individual relatives aside from Mansuke and Shota that entertaining or memorable. In particular, I didn't like Natsuki's voice at all, but the rest of the family's voice work was pretty fine. I also thought that the general family dynamic that they had collectively was also pretty great. I also happened to like everything that happened within OZ because of how well-choreographed everything was. I was also a fan of Gatchaman Crowds and that one Digimon movie, so I also really enjoyed the Hanafuda for everyone's souls scene that happened at the climax. The animation and choreography for the IRL parts of the movie, other than the facial expressions of the characters during some scenes, weren't too notable, though. General cyberterrorism subplot was pretty interesting in the beginning considering how a ton of things are stored in cloud storage nowadays, and the general family subplot will always be relevant. The movie itself has some potential for longevity because of these things. Pretty enjoyable watch a good chunk of the time and had that general feel-good atmosphere that was in GatchaCrowds, but a lot of characters were pretty subpar. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was nowhere close to this movie, so I'm not sure why that movie showed up in the recommendation section on the Summer Wars page. |

The avatars were reminiscent of Kuuchuu Buranko for some reason. Hated Natsuki for most of the part, too much of a cliche. She only redeemed herself when she played koi-koi with that internet demon. I also hated the "relationship" between Kenji, Grandma and Natsuki. I'm not into that timid guy and upbeat girl couple Anime trope that is more overused than my granny's panties. Best characters are easily Kazuma and Wabisuke, hands down. Kenji's math skills win but his personality can suck my dick. Love Machine is the one of the dumbest and shittiest names ever used in an Anime. Something that should be reserved for retro, cuck porn. |

I personally enjoyed this movie a lot, it had its funny and sad moments to it. My favorite character was Kazuma! Such a badass and smart kid. His avatar is pretty cool. It got epic at the end when everyone helped Natsuki in battle. But the one thing that bothered me though was that Natsuki's first love was her UNCLE Wabisuke?? Uhh.. but aren't they family? e.e 8/10 for me. |

It was ok. The plotline was weak in my opinion as result of trying to tackle all facets of life within 2 hours. There were just too many themes for a movie and not enough room for proper character development which is expected when you have 20+ characters in the shot for the majority of the time. I particularly liked how the Ozu devs basically said "fuck it, let's let this random family in Japan sort this Shit out" giving zero fucks about a nuclear disaster. Not to mention how everyone in the world suddenly learned how to play a Japanese card game. |

That was great! While I agree with some of the comments here that this film bit off more than it could chew in some ways, and a lot of aspects felt half-baked, it pulled off one aspect perfectly - and that was the chaos of one giant joint family. Grandma in particular was an utter joy to watch. It's rare to see such a huge, lovable family portrayed anywhere. I was clapping with the rest of them in the final scene. I loved how Grandma's picture had broken into a wide smile! I'd normally give it an 8/10, but the dazzling animation made me bump it up to a 9. |

This whole AI and Internet world thing made me change my rating from a 4/5 to a 2/5. To explain how wrong and one sided this battle would be would take too long This wouldn't have ended either if the goal of this AI was to learn and live on. It would've lived on by being downloaded and hosted by other computers. Also, why does that family have a super computer? I know I shouldn't sweat the small details, but this was too big for me to handle |

Not terrible but not enjoyable either. Stereotypical bland characters(nerdy nobody/hidden genius, most popular nice girl, angsty brat), mess of a plot and that fucking forced romance. The art and some action were nice and the only thing that touched me were the familial atmosphere. Still 7/10. |

According to the vote I am the 500th "Loved It" vote, feeling the pride, but seriously great movie. Themes of traditional family values in the age of the internet worked well as a backdrop, and while the characters (especially the villain) did feel kind of weak the ones who got focus feel 3D and interesting. Loved the animation, and the climax was well handled and cathartic, but the Hanafuda battle of giant Attack-on-Titan rabbit versus fox-girl with wings in a scene that feels like it belongs in No Game, No Life was just so ridiculous that it got a chuckle out of me. |

This is a very fun watch despite the shitty story. Even a 1999 film can provide a much better twist the this movie's plot but well, this anime was entertaining for its silliness. Logic doesn't really matter anyway for anime. And what matters most is the cool animation and coolest Grandma. |

A really great movie, it's about family, it's about accepting and forgiving, it's about coming together as one to face a common threat, and I guess that you can take much more out of it. The Grandma's letter is so poignant, and beautiful too. There's nothing worse than being hungry, and all alone, huh. I just love how they all gave their best until the very end, and were able to make it out alive. Their home, where so many memories of their beloved Grandma rest, wasn't completely destroyed either, I love it. |

what a painful experience I'd with this overrated movie. First of all this movie could been way shorten to an hour. It managed to make it longer by slowing the animation and inserting alot of silence and cringe moments which was absolutely unnecessary! Also AI thing plot was extremely uninteresting and childish and doesn't feel fitting doing both family drama and "SAVE THE WORLD" plot together. Big plot twists came off VERY plain and very predictable. Pretty much everything negative of this movie reminds me of SAO (i.e. too much coincidence) except this was almost unwatchable thanks to generic melodrama scenes (too much screaming) and boring characters. 3/10. |

Another beautiful film by Mamoru Hosoda, I wouldn't call it a small pearl or even a great movie, but it can have its say, since I find it suitable to be seen in the pre-summer and later periods. It manages to combine, despite the overflowing fun side, also moments that convey deep messages in close contact with less serious ones. The comedy on the other hand is not even out of place and vulgar, but rather sewn well to what one wants to convey in the dialogues. All the characters are pleasant, albeit poorly outlined, temperamentally speaking, they manage to emerge from the background each one distinct from the other and stand out in the brief moments given to him by the script. Excellent work on the plane of drawings and very beautiful backgrounds, at the height of a film production 8/10 |

A silly premise, but a very well put together movie. The family was kind of annoying, especially with all of the grandmother's 'connections' and the huge amount of communal self-worship. But what large family isn't obnoxious and cliquey? While watching, I couldn't help but get pulled along by the family, so their reaction when Wabisuke first appears was my reaction: 'he must be a bad dude if they don't like him.' I guess that's what happens when an outsider is confronted by such an overwhelmingly large (in many ways) and tight-knit group. Together they just have so much presence. Glad the OZ stuff didn't take over the whole thing. I was worried I'd have to sit through almost 2 hours of annoying avatar bullshit. The ending was cute, but can't say I ever really liked Natsuki. |

I was browsing some Digimon fanarts because of nostalgia rash, saw a pic comparing this movie with War Game, got curious and gave it a chance. And man, I'm disappointed. The remake of Digimon: Bokura no War Game we never asked for with needless romance, drama and unlikable characters. Still wondering why this is highly praised while the original was obscure af unless you're a Digimon fan. I know it's from the same director so it's not a case of plagiarism but pay some respect to the source dammit, like adding a line in Background about where the idea of the entire movie came from. |

Meh, while I don't think it "sucked" like that kid in the other thread, I really didn't think it was all that great. A shame really because the family/love story had potential.
