For me, anime is just entertainment and should not be a chore to watch. I'll try pretty much anything, but I have no reservations about dropping shows at any point if I lose interest. One episode in, one episode from the end, doesn't matter.
Favourite things:
- Manipulative, ambitious, clever villains
- Machiavellian leaders / underdogs thirsting for power
- Tragic breakdowns / spiraling into insanity
- Intense, long-term, all-consuming rivalries
- Morally corrupt bishōnen
- Well-executed fantasy / scifi world-building
- Wholesome found family shenanigans / chaotic ensemble casts
- Heists, espionage, and secret missions
Least favourite things:
- Damsels in distress (lack of agency) / useless heroes (angsty, indecisive, weak-willed)
- Haphazard / grotesque fan service
- Lazy storytelling, deus ex machina, and poorly explained convoluted lore
- Heavy reliance on atmosphere, mood, or aesthetic while the story itself is slow, meandering, and has no stakes
- School settings, school children, petty school drama
- Sickening "cuteness" overdose, lollis, and extremely high pitched voices
Favourite Western animation:

where have you watched Xi You Ji?
Thank you and Happy New Year to you as well~!!
Anyways hope you had a happy holiday season and a great year moving forward!
I see Kino no Tabi on your PTW list. I watched it recently and it's a thought-provoking series that explores various ethical and moral issues in society. What makes it unique for me is that it doesn't introduce an issue and spoon feed you the "right" answer, but it lets you think about it and form your own conclusions. ♡
Nice to meet someone who has exactly the same "favorite things in anime" as me.
Yeah I guess I did respond pretty quickly. (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑
