Chibi Megumi turned my heart into jelly...
I was actually pretty curious how they would get out of this pickle. Megumi's heartfelt warmth reached out to Shinomiya with her cooking.

Hmm as expected, this episode provided an appropriate excuse for Shinomiya's impudent behaviour... and I can't believe I am letting it go. Well, I thought he must be the kind of "I don't trust anyone" person even before, so this is something I expected. Still, it was a good backstory, but really, I don't think you have to be evil in your own judgements just because others have been wrong to you. That's just a pointless revenge in the end, nothing will emerge out of it. I am glad he is looking forward now though. Spotting a tsundere in him from now on.

Megumi is an angel. I love her so much. Best girl is best <3

I'm pleasantly surprised. Totally thought they'd be all cliched and magically make megumi win even though it's completely unrealistic she'd beat such an experienced chef

I really love how they didn't just win because they tried harder and actually lost, how Megumi has a quality about her cooking that stands out from the other chefs, and how Souma was still mad that he lost.

This show just keeps impressing me :)

Megumi may not have won in the traditional sense but with the tie, her talents have definitely been acknowledged. Shinomiya's backstory interesting and explained why he was so obsessed and fixed on his recipes but because of that it has prevented him from coming up with or acknowledging new creative techniques that could improve his dish and it caused him to stagnate. Unfortunately he shut out anyone who tried to be creative and different by tweaking his recipes. It's not surprising now why he failed Megumi but I guess Koujima was able to make him realize that it's perfectly fine to be creative and that's what he seemed to have been lacking himself which was probably why he wasn't able to acknowledge Megumi's dish at first. It seems Shinomiya might not be so bad after all.Perhaps he's a tsundere lol.
It's also interesting how Souma shoulders the outcome of the Shokugeki on himself like that and concedes it to be his loss.I'm guessing he'll probaby want try to find some inspiration to hone his skills even more. :)

Why they talk about this Umani and gluten everywhere? this anime is becoming propaganda anime to make people in Japan eat products with monosodium glutamate...

but the episode was great! Megumi didn't win she lost but because of her character that she poured to her terrine she got another chance
this is way better than Souma being a first chef in this and winning against Shinomiya
This episode moved me a little so I had a slight feeling that tears could build up in my eyes just for a second.

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

Such heartwarming, and, at the same time, exciting show so far. I like artwork, sound, and almost all the characters. Megumi is so cute when she is nervious. :)
Gonna rate it 7-8/10 in the end, I think.
Very enjoyable series.

My favourite episode so far. I was on the verge of tears throughout the entire episode. I think glasses chef might turn out to my favourite character.

My rating might be 8/10 if it keeps this up. There's just a few things that are pushing me back from rating it higher.

Well in the eyes of Souma, he lost to Shinomiya. Glad Megumi didn't get expelled, all thanks to Hinako saving. And everyone forgot she was just a spectator lol

Chibi Megumi is cute.

Dang, Souma hit that wall hard. It must have hurt a lot.

Wow, and here I was all certain that they wouldn't lose because Souma most likely can't be expelled for the story to continue. For them to suffer an overwhelming defeat yet still end up being able to stay was pretty much the best possible outcome.

I'm glad Souma was upset about his loss; I hope we can see an effect in his character because of it. Like Yuuki said, Souma is being way to reckless in general.

This series has potential.

Dojima is such an educator. He simply agreed with Souma's plan about shokugeki to enlighten Shinomiya.

I love how the backstory of Shinomiya was well-executed. Now, I can understand why he's acting that way.

I also love the character development of Megumi in this episode. She gained confidence that's why her finish product (with the help of our beloved Souma), although imperfect, had an impact to anyone who'd eat it, especially Shinomiya. She even considered his digestion.

Souma is such a great friend. In the end, he was disappointed because technically, they didn't win. But it came as draw because of the three other people's favor, including Shinomiya. It just clearly shows that Souma is not a gary-stu, though he performs well like a professional. He's really determined to hone his skills and to win more, just like what Dojima said. That's why I love his character.

Their friends are the best. They were deeply concerned about Megumi and Souma. That's what friends are for.

I know how it feels to have one of your cooks butcher your recette. Pure scum.

Hinako was so cute at 17. You can definitely see the waifu potential from back then.

Souma pissed that he lost. I would be, too.

Damn it. You made Ryouko cry.

Oh snap. Souma wants to have a card game tournament. I hope its a certain children's card game.

Loved the fact that they lost this episode. Megumi in all her cuteness <3

Looks like Megumi is gaining some confidence, Soma took that loss to heart. I wonder if he could have one if he was the chef?

I think this is the turning point for her (I hope so) like muscle guy said she needs to stop relying on Souma and she needs to start living her life so that she can grow on her own.

P.S.
I want to see how this show is going to make MC & Erina connect because at this moment I don’t see how she is going to have a better connection than Megumi with MC, dont get me wrong I don’t care who ends with who (and I think it is too soon to start talking about that) beside it is the author decision but at the same time Megumi & Souma has a strong bond and I don’t think that in the reaming episode Erina would shorten the gap... but strange things have happened before in anime...

Ambition can ruin someone's life with that much will power. When their ambition is too strong, they can be very stubborn no matter what :/ Shinomiya finally understood something what he did wrong and the problem was solved :)
Nice episode :D It was nice to know something about the chef's youngest days ^^

Wow. A BS technicality that results in a tie. Go figure. Glad to see that Megumi's potential has been affirmed by elite chefs and that she's gaining confidence to stand on her own. It was also refreshing to witness Souma actually lose to someone and be frustrated over it. Of course Shinomiya has a rough backstory that caused him to be who he is, although that doesn't justify his current attitude and the mob boss Giovanii lookalike certainly saw to it that his ego and outlook on life was challenged and subsequently humbled.

Megumi can stay. It's a win.

I liked the character development for Shinoniya. Wasn't expecting such a thing. Though his personality is messed up. Nice to see that Shinoniya and Hinako act the same was as the did in the past.

Each judge having very different but equally positive interpretations about the warm feeling they got from eating Megumi's Rainbow Terrine speaks a lot about how much her cooking appeals to the eater's emotions very much like her caring personality. The fact that she even considered using Allspice to help them with their digestion is something that's unheard of in the series until now. Out of everyone in the competitive grounds of Totsuki Academy, Megumi's the most considerate person of them all.

He had reached the top of the culinary world, having forgotten about the passion that propped him at the start of his journey and was forced to deal with the realization that he peaked too early. Those assholes rebelling against their boss' recipe and sabotaging his business were the true villains. It's great that the nostalgic flavor of her terrine had made Shinomiya relive his life and rediscover what was missing inside of him. It reminded me a lot of Ratatouille, actually!

Soma's frustrated that he didn't win against a Totsuki Alumni who also happened to be the First Seat back at his time but his friend's happy faces were enough as a reward for him.

"You can learn from everyone, even from those below you."

This is a mentally intense episode.

It totally makes sense that Megumi x Souma would lose, given that Shinomiya is an experienced cook, and also Souma's not the main cook, but she managed to show her true characteristic in her dish, hospitality, just like back when she made riceballs for the dorm residents. Souma helped Megumi cook with all her heart, and she grew to be a better cook.

And unexpectedly, Megumi's dish touched Shinomiya's biggest weakness, his stubborness. It caressed his heart like his mother did back then. He learned a lesson from his student, a valuable one that could help him grow more and get over his stagnation.

Looks like he had been doing it since forever:

There's no hot and steamy foodgasm in this episode, but looking at those cute and adorable fluffy kawaii little Megumi spirits worths more than any foodgasm so far:

Something something he wasn't paying attention to his diners or listening to his sous chefs/assistants something something sad now. Something something Soma is mad cuz he lost something something Food Wars yada yada.

Something big tough guy told guy he peaked cuz he was a cock to everyone even though he was trying to evolve in France and keep Japanese cooking alive there or something.

Megumi is now free to smile/protecc something.
