FLCL

Naota Nandaba is an ordinary sixth grader living in a city where nothing amazing ever seems to happen. After his brother Tasuku leaves town to play baseball in America, Naota takes it upon himself to look after everything Tasuku left behind—from his top bunk bed to his ex-girlfriend Mamimi Samejima, who hasn't stopped clinging to Naota since Tasuku left.

Little does Naota know, however, that his mundane existence is on the verge of being changed forever: enter Haruko Haruhara, a Vespa-riding, bass guitar-wielding, pink-haired psychopath whose first encounter with Naota leaves him with tire tracks on his back and a giant horn on his head. Though all he wants is some peace and quiet, when Haruko takes up residence at his parents' home, Naota finds himself dragged into the heart of the greatest battle for supremacy that Earth—and quite possibly the entire universe—has ever seen.

Is the story unique? Yes, very much, alien girl grooms a child so she can marry a god/demon.
Do you think the art style is fitting for the story? This is honestly one of my favourite animes artistically. They just went crazy in the animation its really smooth and I absolutely love the colors.
Were the characters well-rounded? Yes, I liked they way the director developed most of the characters.
Did the characters react to situations and events in a realistic way? Fight scenes literally gave me goosebumps.
Do you think others will enjoy/dislike this series, even if you didn't? Why? I think this show is only enjoyable if ... you are really open minded about this nonconventional anime.

Mixed Feelings

FLCL is a one-of-a-kind anime, or at least something I've never seen been done before. It is very chaotic, dense and extremely fast-paced. It has a unique and very over-the-top style, jumping from one art style to another, one just as good as the other along with great BGM. But that being said, this isn't a show for everyone, and certainly not for me.

Just as I said, it's very fast-paced and so "extreme" it turns into a nonsensical mess of a story that is quite impossible to follow, except there's actually no story at all nor any kind of coherence and connection between the 6 ... episodes. Moreover, the characters just kind of appear out of nowhere without an introduction or any depth to them, and they don't develop at all, they practically remain the same throughout the whole thing. And even being so flat as they are, some of them managed to annoy me to the point I almost dropped it.

Nevertheless, I ended up finishing it because in spite of how much I disliked it, some moments were a spectacle. This is the first time I watch a show that had very distinct highs and downs, the highs being all the fight scenes which are very worth it, while the downs which consisted of the slice of life/"character buildup" parts which are pointless given you practically know nothing about the characters at all and the show does not make an effort to explain anything to the viewer. Not even in the slightest.

On to the rating, I must say this anime is anything but average. It's a love it or hate it anime. The problem is I love the art, and I would rate it a 10 solely based on the art, animation and music, but hate the story component to this, which I would rate 0 out of 10 if possible. So, I guess it balances out.

If you're able to appreciate the visuals and the meaning behind this fever-dreamish show as well as the references to other media (which, by the way, is plagued of) then maybe you'll enjoy FLCL. If not, then maybe you'll get to enjoy some cool music and nice visuals.

To describe this anime to any sane person would make it seem like you’re high on crack, acid, dmt and horse tranquilizers all at once . The plot is either non existent or so dumb it makes slapstick comedy look like Shakespeare. The writing team must have been the people behind the infinite monkey theory trying to write out a masterpiece. It makes no sense, the comedy doesn’t land, the writing is fluctuates between terrible and actively gives you an aneurism. I can’t complain about the art style the visuals are fine and unique. For it being a comedy anime and comedy being subjective I ... understand some may find this funny but I legitimately don’t think anyone with an iq above room temperature could understand this or even enjoy it. This might be the original brain rot content. I watched the entirety of the show in one sitting and with each episode I felt brain cells dying. The description of the show is coherent, the show itself is not. Op and Ed are pretty good songs though. Long story short either I’m missing something or it’s dog shit
