Synopsis

Nichijou primarily focuses on the daily antics of a trio of childhood friends—high school girls Mio Naganohara, Yuuko Aioi and Mai Minakami—whose stories soon intertwine with the young genius Hakase Shinonome, her robot caretaker Nano, and their talking cat Sakamoto. With every passing day, the lives of these six, as well as of the many people around them, experience both the calms of normal life and the insanity of the absurd. Walking to school, being bitten by a talking crow, spending time with friends, and watching the principal suplex a deer: they are all in a day's work in the extraordinary everyday lives of those in Nichijou.

Background

Bandai Entertainment had licensed Nichijou, but on January 2, 2012, it was announced they were leaving the North American anime market with all unreleased titles including Nichijou being cancelled. The series would remain unlicensed until November 4, 2016 when Funimation Entertainment acquired the series, and released it sub-only in a complete Blu-ray & DVD combo pack on February 7, 2017. They also did a Blu-ray & Digital combo pack with a brand new English dub, which was released on July 23, 2019.

Reviews

Random and absurd slice of life comedy that can be relatable at times, each episode is totally random as it is mostly moe comedy that some times goes into full action mode where all the characters start getting serious for silly and hilarious reasons.

Story:
Let's state the obvious, there is no overarching story and it doesn't try to deliver any message but that doesn't mean there's no character development as there are minor character arcs which doesn't ruin the heartwarming experience of the show, I especially found the story of Nano a robot wanting to live a normal life very heartwarming. this show have ...

Mixed Feelings
So my experience with Nichijou was pretty lukewarm in general, so here's to a lukewarm review. In as few words as possible, I would describe it as "a mediocre comedy with incredibly high production value and some golden moments interspersed between otherwise tryhard and sometimes tedious jokes".

As this is a comedy series, the jokes and comedic timing and such are criteria by which to judge its quality. Well, on that front the thing kinda flops for me, at least. Most of the scenes are far too drawn out and rarely feature a satisfying punchline, but you mileage may vary. Nichijou does try an interesting approach ...

Story

Nichijou is a slice of life, so there is not much of a story as to be expected. It is about the everyday lives of the central cast and the outrageous shennigans they find themselves it. Comedy is very subjective based on the reviewer and I can definitely say this is one of the least funny comedies I have seen in a very long time. The jokes lack a punchline for the most part and instead of ending on a high note, the jokes are sometimes dragged out as far as possible to pad out the runtime. They also get very stale as the ...
