On Christmas Eve, Hiro Hirono's bike is stolen by a girl chasing a thief who stole her purse. He gives chase and finds her unconscious and his bike ruined. The girl, Miyako Miyamura, soon awakes and the two begin to talk. After making sure she is okay, they end up spending Christmas Eve together. Later, Hiro finds out Miyako attends the same school as him and they begin to spend more and more time together, Miyako developing affections for Hiro. Kei Shindou—Hiro's childhood friend who has long held a crush on him—begins to become jealous and a love triangle follows.

The series also tells the story of Renji Asou. One day, he meets Chihiro Shindou, the twin sister of Kei Shindou, at an abandoned train station. Even though she's very shy, they get along pretty well and begin meeting at the same spot every day; however, Renji finds out that Chihiro was in a car accident years ago and as a consequence she suffers from a disability: her memory lasts only 13 hours. Nevertheless, after learning that Chihiro's dream is to write a novel, Renji finally decides to help her fulfill her dream while also trying to make her overcome the difficulties imposed by her condition.

What makes anime such a fantastic medium is that directors aren't subjected to the confines of reality. In other words, they can manipulate the scene as much as they please to create symbolic effects: patterns imposed on silhouettes, a character's eye moving on a white surface, and distorted colours just to name a few. Personally, I can't see how live-action cinema can take those techniques and apply them to the actors without making it feel weird and awkward.

Ef: A Tale of Memories stretches the artistic boundaries of anime by making you ask yourself "What just happened" at the end of every episode but also leaving read more

Several love stories... they will make you cry. Definite recommendation.
Love. Tragedy. Sadness. And a happy ending. This show has all the basic ingredients that's needed to make me cry. . However, not all shows with those basic ingredients have done so. What made this show so special then?

I guess the characters, and the way they were portrayed. They were all struggling... struggling with their dreams. What to do. Who to be with. That was portrayed in such a way that I completely fell into it, with my entire mind. It was as if I was standing next to them, having to watch them struggle through read more

“Put your wishes into the memories you do not want to forget…”

Ef – a tale of memories is one of those anime that will probably stay in your memory and will be used as a standard to compare with other similar series in the future. Why in the future? Because the entire series is so beautifully made that there is only a very small handful of shows that are worth comparing it to at present time. In fact, as far as animation quality and technique are concerned Ef – a tale of memories is one of a kind and will most likely remain so read more

ef : A tale of memories..

This is my first review of an anime or it would be better if i said the first time i though of writing one...

I was attracted to start watching this anime only because of its overall but it seems to be far more fascinating than i expected it to be..

Lets go straight at my impressions as far as the story, the characters and the effects of this anime are concerned.

Story (10)

The first episode, which i tried to watch with a friend but i never finished it, was very complicated for me. There were many blanks at my mind and many read more

Anime: True Tears
Ef and True Tears are a perfect match to the point that they could almost be mistaken for the same franchise. Both are Highschool romance anime that avoid many of clichés of the genre to focus on love triangles, keeping the emotional development of the characters as their primary goal. In visual terms they present very solid animation values with gorgeous background art that shines mostly in the sky scenes. Fanservice free, these are titles that handle their potentially jaded subject matter with maturity and in a serious, thoughtful and highly emotional way. Fans of one are encouraged to check out the other.

Anime: Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
The way the drama unravels is similar Both have to do with loss of memory and jealousy in a love triangle

Anime: Clannad
both have deep emotional arcs and meanings. both contains drama powerful stories to touch the heart. although clannad is more comedy-orientated whilst ef is more drama orientated, both have amazing artwork (though different in style), and BOTH ARE ABSOLUTELY EPIC AND TOTALLY WORTH WATCHING especially if you like drama/romances/slice of life/school stuff!!!!

Anime: Kanon (2006)
In some ways both are very similar, but, at the same time, there are quite a few differences. If you enjoy the dramatical and yet mystical romantic aspect of Kanon, you'll definitely find that in Ef- tale of memories. The difference probably lies in Ef's abstractly artistic animation and split storyline that follows the romance of three separate relationships.

Anime: Myself ; Yourself
At first, it looks like a school slice of life with a bit of romance and harem, but in the end it ends up beind SO much more than that. Both reach a certain depth in predestined relationships, even if the show doesn't focus on it.
