At first, it looks like a school slice of life with a bit of romance and harem, but in the end it ends up beind SO much more than that. Both reach a certain depth in predestined relationships, even if the show doesn't focus on it.
both have a dark side to them, and becomes deeper the more you watch. ef has more emotional drama, tho both have mysteries.

real life romantic drama with thick plots which will have you on the edge of your seats waiting for what happens next. i couldnt stop watching them once i started.

One of the main girls in ef and the main one in m;y are depressed and have an avoidant personality.
Also, both are adapted from visual novels.
Both have a teenage cast in a small-town setting, except ef was set in both Australia and Japan, which gave it the aesthetic upper hand plus shaft's visuals and the colour template being richer.
