Air
~ The 1000th Summer...~
Story (9/10)
Air the story of Yukito Kunisaki, a young man carrying on his family's journey to find the "girl in the sky" and free her from a curse. Stumbling upon a sleepy coastal town, he meets three girls: Misuzu Kamio, Kana Kirishima, and Minagi Tohno. He comes to spend more and more time in the town, living at the Kamio residence with Misuzu and her adopted mother.
Some may know, others may not, but Air is based off an ero visual novel by KEY. Thus, each of the main heroines (Misuzu, Kana, and Minagi) each have different scenarios to explore. The short anime tries its best to explore each scenario, but since it was so short, it felt somewhat rushed and the arcs of Kana and Minagi felt somewhat detached. Thus why the story only gets a 9/10.
However, I still rated it so high because the main story (the one of Misuzu) is simply beautiful. It's original, fresh, tear-jerking, and just beautifully done. I'll admit it, I cried at at the end.
Most consider Air to be confusing when they watch and don't understand the Kanna arc. I myself got it the first time, but if you don't, just watch it over -- you won't regret it. Most understand it the second time and come to appreciate the series much more.
Art (10/10)
Kyoto Animation, the company that animated Air, did a stunning job as always. The scenery felt alive like I could just step in, everything flowed smoothly and they're weren't any inconsistencies. Air is set in the summer, and like to watch parts of it in winter when I feel cold -- that's how real it feels. The clouds and skies in particular were stunning, and kudos to them for that, since the sky and flying are important symbols of Air.
Sound (9/10)
I love, love, love the opening theme to Air ("Tori no Uta" [The Bird's Song] by Lia). It's beautiful and the mood and lyrics reflects all the emotions and events in the series. The ending theme ("Farewell Song" also done by Lia) as well complimented the story and plot wonderfully. The BGM was nicely done, giving off the perfect aura for whatever was going on when it was played. Kudos to the voice actors, also -- they did terrific work on their roles. The character's emotions were conveyed convincingly and they spoke with such emotion it could tear your heart out.
Character (8/10)
The characters in Air were all alive and I felt for each and every one's issues. The designs on them were varied and I never was annoyed by any character in particular (a nice change for once). However, the reason this rating isn't higher, is because since the anime was so short most characters did not receive the development they were in need of.
Final Thoughts
I gave Air an "enjoyment" rating of 10. I don't let this affect my score, however, since it's really a personal thing -- someone who isn't a romance, drama, supernatural sort of thing probably won't like this. However, I loved Air every moment, from beginning to end. If you're looking for a nice romance with a touch of supernatural fantasy and great characters, I highly recommend Air. read more

I just had to write a review for Air because this was honestly one of the most confusing animes I have ever watched.
Story (5/10)
The story is about a dude named Yukito and how helps out a bunch of stray animals...er I mean girls. In addition to Yukito's new animal rescue center, he is looking for "the girl in the sky." Makes about as much sense as it sounds.
Key's animes are usually really formulaic. You have this one guy with absolutely no testosterone (unless you play the visual novel) surrounded by a bunch of girls who are either dying, or have some sort problem only the guy can solve.
Air is no exception, and just like Clannad and Kanon, Air has some supernatural elements as well. But unlike Clannad and Kanon, the"magic" in Air is very poorly explained. In fact, the supernatural aspect of Air is so poorly explained that the last five episodes made absolutely no sense. I seriously wonder what the main conflict of the story was, because the ending did not make it clear whether whatever the conflict was was resolved or not. It just...ended.
Air also suffered from one of Key's problems which I call, "the abandonment of little girls." No, Yukito doesn't abandon them, the story does. Once each girl's arc is finished, that's the end of her. She will not appear for the rest of the anime, in fact, It'll be like she never existed at all! In conclusion, Air's predictable and confusing storyline made the show less enjoyable.
Art: (6/10):
There's nothing really to say about this. The background is animated well, but the characters look kind of weird to me. Like they have squashed faces. Of course this is extremely subjective.
Sound: (8/10)
The opening and closing were perfect for the tone of the anime itself. I have no complains with the voice acting itself, I watched nine episodes subbed and one dubbed. The dub sounds fine, not annoying at all.
Characters: (4/10)
This is were the shortness of air really affects it. Like I said previously, each of the characters were introduced, became friends with Yukito, Yukito would solve their problem, and then...they would disappear. This was due to the thirteen episode limit, so there wasn't a satisfying amount of character development. The personalities of the characters themselves were very bland.
Yukito: This guy pretty much has no personality. He adopts the cliched "nice guy" personality that is were uninteresting. Yukito was more of a plot device than a character.
Misuzu: She reminds me of Sakura from Naruto. Basically she doesn't want to burden anyone and has minimal social skills. On the other hand, she is a very interesting character and is concerned about people. So I guess I can't hate her.
Kano: I barely remember anything about her because she was the first arc. It would have been nice if she appeared even once after her arc ended, at least I'd know she was alive.
Minagi: Probably my favorite character in the series, her story is truly sad and she has an interesting personality.
Enjoyment: (5/10)
i was really enjoying this at the first half of the series, but the other half ruined it for me. It was just too confusing and I couldn't focus on the episodes properly because I was wondering, "What the hell is going on?" Unlike most of Key's other works, Air didn't really pull on my heartstrings and I was constantly bored towards the end.
Overall: (6/10)
A six is fair and that is what Air is. The anime did have it's moments, but it really wasn't that good. I think people should only watch Air if they have very good comprehensive abilities, or they are really big fans of Key.

also done by Kyoto Animation, and produced by Visual Art's/Key. Looking for sad stories like in Air? Kanon is your answer, but twice as long and just as good.
Fantasy and Romance with bits of Comedy thrown in
Do I need to say anythign at all? Kawaii girls that you can choose from! imo kanon is better cuz it has more kawaii girls.
KyoAni does sad girls with sad stories yet again, but this time with an easier to understand plot.
Same people made it both stories are in the slice of life, fantasy genre.
Same creators, and it's good o:
One guy and a lot of different girls with there own beautiful arcs. Both have supernatural elements and are animated by the same studio, Kyoto Animation.
Besides being made by the same creator, both these series are sweet and sentimental. Best suited if you're looking to shed a tear or two.
Well first off, they're both originated from Key games and animated by Kyoani.
They're both incredibly sad story's which will tug at your heart, mind you with fabulous animation (kyoani ftw!)
Its the same story, all over again
Both from KyoAni. Have a same feeling to it overall.
Both series are based off games from the company Key for starters. The first plot of Kanon (with Makoto) is extremely similar to Air's story, except of course not exactly the same.
Both are based on Visual Novels done by KEY. The story contains that Air feel about it, but it's still got it's own vibe throughout the series.
Both are very sad. Funny at other times.
Air was really similar to Kanon in the style and presentation but really takes a more emotional route and was def an anime to watch.
Both have the same atmosphere. They both basicly tell the story about a guy whho comes to a town and helps the sad girls in it...
The same creators are responsible for Air and Kanon and it shows: from the character design to the pacing and plot, these are indeed akin titles that should appeal to a similar fanbase. Both are heartfelt anime that compel the viewer to empathize with he characters. However, Air takes drama to a whole different level and becomes downward tragic while Kanon manages to retain a bitter sweet feeling.
Both are made by Key, and adapted by KyoAni. Both have a tragic feel to them, and they follow the "girl arc" formula with a boy coming to a town, meeting girls and their individual tragedies and troubles, each story arc focusing on one girl.
Both are made by the same group - Key and Kyoto Animation. Both have similar (yet different) and sad plots involving a main character and several girls.
Boths series have lot in common. They are both KyoAni products and both have wonderfukl stories that will move your heart. They are Both harem shows with character arcs, and some of the character arcs in Kanon and Air resemble each other. IN other words, if you liked AIR you're definetly going to like Kanon.
It's similar to air in case of the drama intensity. However, Air lacks the longevity of the story, but it's a pretty good one too. Kanon is great because of the unpredictable flow of the story. These two will surely bring tears to your eyes.
its made by the same people, and has the same sort of effect-like you could go back and watch it hundreds of times.
Air is the first of the Key/Kyoto series followed by Kanon 2006
One guy... A bunch of girl's...
Both titles being games produced by Key and both Animated by the wonderful KyoAni, both shows are beautiful to look at, and they both feature very sad stories. Keep your eyes open during ep 2 you might get a pleasant surprise lol
Both are very sad. And they can be really funny, you can cry. x3
I really enjoyed Air but I enjoyed Kanon (2006) even more! Kyoto Animation works its magic in both of these romance / drama anime. Air and Kanon were both written by Key, and were video games before anime. They both have really intriguing plots and the animation is amazing and close to flawless! I was brought to tears by both of these shows. There are really moving scenes, and also scenes where you find yourself smiling from ear to ear! I strongly recommend Kanon (2006) if you liked Air!
Both Drama series from Kyoto Animation. If you watched Air (/Kanon (2006) then you should check the other one. They both include good Character developing, an emotional story through the Animé and great graphics and soundtracks fitting the whole atmosphere. Mixed with some Humor makes Kanon (2006) an overall great Animé which is definatly worth watching!
Same original visual novel studio (key), same animation studio (Kyoani)
They are very similar in several ways, both very tragic animes.
Besides the obvious reason of both of them being made by the same company, Air and Kanon both seem to be domant in a season and center in a season. Air capture the soul of Summer as Kanon gets the essence of winter. Both have a still , silent vibe. Both are awesome!
Similar character developments and story.
The've Got The Same Producers And They've Both Got Beautifull Drama Stories
-About the same animation style
-A little bit of harem
-Made by Key Animation
-Comedy
I'll try to keep this short. A lot of people have been suggesting things like kanon, or sola, or whatever for air, because they're both "sad". let me tell you that I don't get why that is. Kanon is nowhere NEAR Air's level. Air is spectacular. Why? Well, because, it doesn't just deal with the usual "tragedy" - the whole doomed love thing. Air goes so much deeper than that - not only does it explore one (make that two >.<'') of the purest couples I've ever seen before, it also goes into the love of sisters, and a mother and her daughter, and more. If you've watched Kanon, watch air right this second. It is WORTH it. If you've watched Air and you know what real tragedy is, I guess Kanon would be a good next stop. It's not as sad, but the animation is really similar, as is the way they lay out the story.
:)
Viewers that are teary-eyed on the sad moments from Air should certainly check out Kanon(2006). Kanon presents a simple but unpredictable storyline and captivating animation provided by the famous Kyoto Animation Studios. Be ready with those tissues though.
A one guy and a lot of girls, each one with its own drama and a beautiful background story. A serie that will make you cry and smile with the characters.
Possui um estilo bem parecido tanto no desenho como na historia ^^
Kanon and Air are both adapted from visual novels by Key.
Both anime have the same type of supernatural elements and the moods of both stories are bittersweet. Anybody who enjoys one of these will definitely like the other.
Both were adapted from visual novels by Key and animated by the same studio - Kyoto Animation.
both are sad and have good animation.both are harem animes by key based off their games.
Made from the same people. Key!
Air and Kanon are very similair. they are both made by kyoani
the first arc in kanon 2006 is very similar to air tv. the following arcs also carry a resemlance and even take it that tiny bit further
both are very sad but beatiful
if you like air you will def like kanon and vice versa
Sad girls that seem happy, a sad town that seems happy and a sad, sad, sad story that seems happy. Also, Kanon is based around winter while Air is based around summer.
Air and Kanon 2006 are both based off of visual novels by Key, and each have very moving stories that will probably make you cry. Also, the Makoto and Misuzu arcs are incredibly similar.
One male main character and a lot of girls around him. Both sad, touching, interesting and heart breaking stories made by Key.
Both feature a male protagonist meeting different females who have weird quirks
In Kanon Ayu says "uguu" a lot
In Air Misuzu says "gao" a lot
In Clannad Nagisa is obsessed with the dango song
They have similar art and music and will both make you CRY!
Same genres
Both series pictures the lives of a main person (Yuuichi/Yukito). They both meet a girl (Ayu/Misuzu) who is a little childish, and becomes very close to the main character. Both will make you cry after a few episodes, as they both turn and twist the story all around.
They both have sort of the same music, characters and both are harems plus in Air a couple of characters from Kanon show up.
It's been said so many times but if you liked Air your bound to love Kanon. Although I feel Kanon is much better than Air.
both have the same feel to them they are both a little on the dark side but the story really shines.
They are made by the same company, Air is like the first attempt but they hit the jackpot on Kanon. They both deal with a fairly strange story line but still understandable with a GREAT twist.
Same creators Gao~~ and both anime are very sad Uguu~~
With Kanon (2006) and Clannad, Air completes the triade of the best KyoAni adaptations of Key's Visual Novels. Awesome stories about love, life, death and human relationships. Tragic stories, confused pasts and a uncertain future with supernatural events in all of them.
A must for every fan of Jun Maeda or drama/romance animes.
The two anime's are both slice of life, with main characters suffering from memory loss. They are beautifully put together. I found Kanon to be more comic in the start but they both sink into a darker plot. Both have a character who is suffering or trying to find memories.
Both have the power to make you cry and laugh.
-Each girl receives her own arc
-Animes adapted from creations by KEY
-Drama, romance, comedy, bromance, school life, all along with supernatural tones
Both of these animes are really heart breaking, but i loved them both. The art styles are incredibly similar. AND Ayu, Nayuki and Makoto all make a small appearence in the show.
Both animes are based around some girl's arc ... And they both made me cry.
Very alike in drawings, personality, and others
Main characters both very similar,
Both amazing anime's
They both start slow also -.-
Air is however better IMO
I suppose it's pretty obvious, but a lot of newer people don't realise that Air and Kanon are by the same original author; Key. Art style and some of the themes are similar, but what I find the most striking is their presentation of seasonal opposites. Air does the melancholy in summer so amazingly well, and Kanon does the melancholy in winter almost as amazingly well.
So I suppose if you liked the summer feel of Air and want the winter version, Kanon (2006) would be it.
It has the same animation style of air. It also has the same supernatural tone, but kanon focuses on miracles, while air just seems to get more depressing lol

Yeah I would recommend Air if you like this anime :D
I finished Air not too long ago and loved it!
Made by the same people :P
Kyoto Animation also made an adaptation of the Clannad visual novel made by Visual arts/Key.
One guy... A bunch of girl's...
Same original visual novel studio (key), same animation studio (Kyoani)
AIR, KANON, CLANNAD are made by KEY. All three are very good
Same creator, and similar story.
Cute Anime from Key Studio..
It's also from KEY and animated by KYOani
Both anime focus on a guy that doesn't know what to do with himself, and instead starts to help a girl fufilling her dreams. Also, the animations are quite alike, as they're both based on a visual novel by Key.
Both are pretty slow-moving and capture the spirit of summer. In both, a male character helps out a female character who is weak.
Both are Beutiful Stories. You'll understand that after time you'll have the same Feeling.
Both anime made the same creators and atmosphere is the same. Both stories are about young male character, who helps weak girl making her dreams to come true.
-About the same animation style
-A little bit of harem
-Made by Key Animation
-Comedy
Similar feel and drama/romance.
Both were adapted from visual novels by Key and animated by the same studio - Kyoto Animation.
It is made from the same people, and they are similar ind that the genre is the same.
Both were about slice of life, school life, comedy and else.
Air and Clannad are similar in that they are both produced by the same group, and they have similar themes of drama, sadness, and fantasy. If you liked Air, then you will like Clannad, and vice versa.
Both are made by Key, and both are very sad at times. Very good anime
They are both about the past and about characters who are a lot the same. People hiding their past and trying to make friends.
Created by the same animation studio and has the same type of storyline and same style
AIR and Clannad founded both visual novel games. Both is very sad, but they've their funny moments too. Charachter are most of girls and actually only main character is boy.. ^^
They are made from the same company. And they have same styles
Though AIR is more of a tear jerker than Clannad, they have similar mix of drama, romance and comedy.
Where Clannad is (in my opinion) the better of the two both shows have a similar feel to them and the lead characters are very similar to one another.
They are both by the same company so they are to have many similarites they both have romance that sways off from time to time and girls who all seem to have some sort of relationship with the main character who ends up falling in love with one of them there other similarities now go find out for yourself :)
Both sad and touching.I love Clannad more than Air though.
Apart of having been created by the same studio, they both focus on "family", and how important this family is throughout your life.
One male main characters and harem around him. Every girl has a different story but in the end he only choses one. Both of them are great stories produced by Key
Both feature a male protagonist meeting different females who have weird quirks
In Kanon Ayu says "uguu" a lot
In Air Misuzu says "gao" a lot
In Clannad Nagisa is obsessed with the dango song
They have similar art and music and will both make you CRY!
Same genres
A love story between daughter and mother brought to a tear jerking end in this fantastic series
Both are created by Key and animated by KyoAni.
The worlds of both anime seem normal but they really aren't. Hidden forces affect the worlds. Characters give off a very happy feel, but their pasts are full of hardships. Each arc within both series focus on each character and further develop each characters and the overall plot.
both have the same feel to them they are both a little on the dark side but the story really shines.
The music is very similar. Both series evoke many different emotions. You feel for the characters.
Both Clannad and Air are created by Key. These animes involve a guy who meets a girl and ends up helping her. Eventually, these same guys end up meeting more girls and, being as kind-hearted as they are, help them out, as well. Both of these animes leave you wanting more.
Both feature moe characters in a harem type setting
Made by the same company, and it's great if you love sad stories.
Same creators and both anime are very sad.
these two have a LOT of similarity, and they are made by the same people
-the main guy and girl both have an age difference AND a height difference
-the guy helps other girl who have problems and sorta brings them together
-both have a supernatural part to its plot.
-both main guys are kinda "alone"
-both main girls are clumsy and weird, but you can't help being friends and liking them. the 2 main girls are also very "fragile"
-Each girl receives her own arc
-Animes adapted from creations by KEY
-Drama, romance, comedy, bromance, school life, all along with supernatural tones
Both Air and Clannad involves a group of girls that revolves around a boy. Both give off the same feeling of sadness, but also include some funny parts. In both, the male protagonist is constantly trying to help those around him, especially the main female protagonist, who in both shows bouts of illness. Both are cute anime's, with sadness, slice-of-life, comedy, and romance. =)
Both anime can be seen here: http://www.myanimelinks.com/
=)
-Childish, weak [weak as in physically] female leads (Nagisa....Misuzu)
-Male leads who help various girls (Tomoya....Yukito)
-KEY works
both based on Key's visual novels and included philosophicals moments.
Both anime series are extremely similar. From art-style, animation, and character design to the involvement of somewhat magical elements, storyline, and events. If you enjoyed either Clannad or Air, you'll definitely enjoy the other
Same producers, beautiful love stories in each
Comedy, Romance, LOTS AND LOTS OF *** DRAMA ***
They both Have the AMAZING Singer Lia for their Theme song and or Most of their songs.
They both Contain ALOT OF DRAMA soo if your a fan of that i suggest you aleast check them out!!!!!!!
Very alike in drawings, personality, and others
Main characters both very similar,
Both amazing anime's
Clannad however IMO is far better
While Kanon (2006) is more similar in it's Harem aspects to Clannad, Air is very thematically similar to Clannad in that it focuses very much on family. In my opinion, Air did a much better job at presenting themes of family than Clannad did so if you liked that aspect of Clannad, you'll love Air :)
There both about this guy trying to find a place in the world. They both meet a girl who changes their life around.
They are created by the same company - Key. They both have the same art style, as well. The anime is harem based, although there isn't a harem. There are also Arcs for the different female characters. The male roles are both looking for something.
Air TV and Clannad undoubtedly have similar styles. These Kyoto Animation productions have extraordinary artwork. Both series begin quite nicely but there's more to them than meets the eye. In addition, there seems to be an overrepresentation of "Moe" factors; the casts of characters have comparable personalities (I'm not saying they're the same). The main characters are quite indifferent to life, while the main girl is clumsy and naive.
Both are centered around a certain boy who encounters several certain girls, all of which are made out to seem like romantic interests. However, in both there is one of these romantic interests that has problems keeping her from making or retaining friends, prompting this certain boy to take care of her. As well as similarities in plot, they have some similarities in message, and both are wonderfully deep and touching.
