'Sword Art Online: Progressive' Gets Second Anime Movie in 2022
The official website of the Sword Art Online: Progressive - Hoshi Naki Yoru no Aria (Sword Art Online: Progressive - Aria of a Starless Night) anime movie announced a second movie on Monday. The new movie, subtitled Kuraki Yuuyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Deep Night), will open in Japan in 2022.
The first movie, Hoshi Naki Yoru no Aria (Aria of a Starless Night), premiered in Japan on October 30, selling approximately 225,000 tickets and earning a cumulative 349 million yen (US$ 3.05 million) on its opening weekend. Funimation and Aniplex of America will screen the movie in the US and Canada on December 3, followed by Australia and New Zealand on December 9.
Reki Kawahara began penning the side story light novel with illustrations by abec in October 2012, retelling and expanding the original series' Aincrad arc. Kadokawa published the eighth volume on June 10.
Kiseki Himura (Just Because!) began a manga adaptation in Dengeki G's magazine in June 2013 before transferring to Dengeki G's Comic the following April. The manga covered the first two volumes of the light novel and ended in February 2018. Kadokawa released the seventh and final volume in May 2018.
Yen Press licensed both the light novel and manga adaptation in English in 2014 and shipped the seventh manga volume in December 2018 and the sixth novel volume last July. The seventh light novel volume is scheduled to go on sale on January 18, 2022.
Synopsis
This is a tale of the time before "Lightning Flash" and "The Black Swordsman" were known by those names...
The day that she happened to don the NerveGear, Asuna Yuuki was a third-year middle school student who'd never even touched an online game before. On November 6, 2022, the world's first VRMMORPG, Sword Art Online, is officially launched. But the players, still euphoric over having logged in, suddenly find themselves trapped inside the game when the Game Master deprives them of any way to log out.
The Game Master then gives them this warning "This may be a game, but it's not something you play." If a player dies in-game, they die in the real world.
Hearing this, all of the players panic, and pandemonium reigns. One of those players is Asuna, but despite not yet knowing the rules of this world, she sets off to conquer the floating iron castle, Aincrad, whose peak is too high to be seen. As the days go by in this world where death is never very far away, she has a fateful encounter. And then, a parting...
Though she's at the mercy of the reality before her eyes, Asuna fights on with all her might until someone appears before her: the aloof swordsman, Kirito... (Source: Funimation)

Why are they skipping volumes 2 and 3? What is the thought process behind skipping so much just to animate the 4th volume?

Ah yes, let's just skip 99% of Asuna's development, tons of other RPG explanations, many of life or death moments that changed completely how the characters act, because that's how you tell a story, whatever really, let SAO be forgotten, the Straw man arguments against SAO are never gonna die on the Western side, I just give up really.
Ditto, Light Novel readers should just ditch the anime all together. A1 Pictures passion toward this series is nonexistent.
86 is getting the royal treatment. Kaguya-sama get the spa treatment.

They are skipping volume 2, 3 and half of the first one.

Great news but I heard that apparently they are going to skip 2-4 floor.

The Author said that they didn't adapted those because they wait for the Elf War Quest to be completed in the Novels.
So it may hint to a TV Serie for all those later on... ?

It will show the events of the 5th floor.
Apparently, from what I have heard, nothing much happens during the skipped parts so I guess its cool.
