Synopsis

Excelling socially and academically, Asuna Yuuki is on track to ace her high school entrance exams. Her friend and classmate, Misumi "Mito" Tozawa, advises her to take a short break from studying and join her on the launch day of Sword Art Online (SAO)—the highly anticipated online virtual reality multiplayer game. Asuna accepts her offer and soon meets her in the game.

In a cruel twist of fate, Asuna, Mito, and every other player logged into SAO find themselves trapped in the game permanently. The only way out is to clear all one hundred floors of the game, and to make matters worse, dying inside the game will kill the player in real life. With SAO now turned into a nightmare death trap, Asuna and other gamers—such as the lone swordsman Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya—must adapt and survive, all whilst attempting to beat the unforgiving competition to the top.

I am hugely invested in telling people that this movie is actually good, so I'm going to tell a story about how I discovered this movie.

As part of an (ill-advised) attempt to make a comprehensive isekai tier list, I decided to sit down with some friends to watch every piece of SAO media available to me in as close to one sitting as I could get. This was the last piece of media I watched after finishing Ordinal Scale (I didn't realize it was before Alicization. Whoops) and was so checked out of the end of that movie that the bar of expectations was on ...

Mixed Feelings
The Movie tells the period of the first 2 episodes of the anime, but from Asunas point of view.

Well it is SAO. What do you expect. It is a bit generic, but also it's a source for a lot of pop culture, references and we all probably watched SAO as one of our first 10 animes or something around that.

The Animation is 100 times better than the original, but the constantly crying, bitching and drama that all could be resolved with a single sentence is a bit too obnoxious for my taste. That said I know it will get a bit better in the future, ...

This movie wasn't terrible but was not very good to say the least. First off before anything i want to mention how half of this movie is just Sword Art Online with nothing added besides some poor context.

Now, the story of this is simply put a worse version of the Sword Art Online story that most know. It doesn't add anything substantial and when an event happens that makes you ever so slightly interested it makes a mess of what could have been ok. This movie from day dot was never going to be amazing, but i was hoping for at least something average. Although ...
