Original Anime 'Megalo Box' Announced

An official website has opened and announced that an original anime titled Megalo Box will premiere in Spring 2018. The anime will be a part of the 50th anniversary commemoration project of Ashita no Joe franchise.

Based on the original draft by Ikki Kajiwara and Tetsuya Chiba, Megalo Box will center on a boxer named JD, who has immersed himself in fixed matches in an underground ring.

I really dont want this. Not just being a purist but ANJ was perfect the way it was and the classic chalky art style was befitting for its gritty feel and atmosphere. Ippo is more upbeat, happy, and stylized.

Hmm this looks promising enough. Though kinda questionable at best, however its interesting to see. Will look into this for more info.

Ah interesting, I was wondering if they were ever gonna remake Ashita no Joe but the original anime is widely held up as a classic in Japan so I don't think anyone would dare touch it, this seems to be the closest you can get to doing that. It's kind of a remake but also kind of a sequel by the sound of things, in fact it sounds like their answer to Creed in the Rocky franchise. Can't wait to see if any characters from the old series show up.

I've seen the first series of AnJ so I should definitely watch the second one before this comes out.

Interesting, I am looking more forward to this since this will provide us new stories they can tell. I am calling it right now JD is one of the kids that were following Joe around. I also wonder if other characters will show up from Jos like, I want to see Danpei, Yoko, Nishi, Noriko, Sachi, Wolf, to show up somepoint in the series. Overall I am really hype and I can't wait until it comes out, please let be good.
