The official website of the television anime adapting Miki Yoshikawa's Kakkou no Iinazuke (A Couple of Cuckoos) manga announced a second season on Saturday. The new season is scheduled to premiere in 2025.

Produced by SynergySP and Shin-Ei Animation, the 24-episode television anime aired from April to October 2022. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime worldwide, excluding Asia.

Yoshikawa originally published Kakkou no Iinazuke as a one-shot in Weekly Shounen Magazine in September 2019, approximately 2.5 years after ending Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches). The magazine began serializing the manga the following January. Kodansha published the 23rd volume on July 17.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga for digital release in English in November 2020. The 18th volume went on sale on July 23.

Synopsis
Nagi Umino and Erika Amano, a studious high school student and a social media star, had nothing that linked them together—until they found out they were swapped at birth. When the sudden news is revealed to both of their families, their parents quickly devise a proposition with neither Nagi's nor Erika's knowledge: in order to restore them both to their rightful families and ensure everyone's happiness, the two should get engaged.

When informed of this, Nagi and Erika are quick to reject the absurd plan, refusing to go along with their parents' wishes. But, with neither party willing to back down, only time can tell where their relationship will go. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

What would they even show? How these characters breathe? Because the story goes absolutely nowhere.

I've stopped reading this but I'm sure this is how things are currently as well. Seriously though, rent a girlfriend getting season 4 feels more deserved.

I am in shock.

Of all the romances that could use a continuation over the years, this one gets chosen? There are so many other options.

What are you thinking Japan?! Does it have high source sales? Even then, who would choose this?

sigh

There's other romance anime I'd rather see get more seasons but until they finally happen, can't wait to see this. Although I don't remember much of s1 p2 at all.

They waited a long time. Looks like this time it really wasn't planned in advance. So, are high school harem/classic rom-coms experiencing a new revival?

Ngl, I'm very salty this show gets a S2 above other more deserving romcoms, and shows in general.
This was 24 episodes of absolute nothingness.

Happy for the fans of the show. Every new sequel announcement, be it right away or months after, I wonder what's going on with My Dress Up Darling.

I'll be honest, aside from the name and the brief synopsis I know nothing about this. Kind of a weird time to spring this on us

@iwubanime None of them are from Weekly Shounen Magazine or Kodansha's property.

@MegamiRem I guess this was in reference to me. :)

I didn't dislike this show but I just had a hard time rooting for anyone. I didn't feel the chemistry or find any of the girls particularly compelling. In a harem there is usually at least one girl I like. From what I recall
. It has been a while, so maybe I'm misremembering the nuanced moments.

I tend to like romances that tug at my heart strings or make me excited. A compelling story helps too. I just didn't feel that with this show. But I was being melodramatic. And just because it wasn't my favorite, there are plenty of people that liked this and are looking forward to it. I forget that sometimes.

Despite my comments, I will watch this most likely. It's rare for me to turn down a romance.

I just feel unlucky in that my favorites rarely get sequels. Anyway, hopefully I didn't reduce your excitement!

@bastek66 Yeah sorry, I was more lamenting the unluckyness I have with romance shows I'd like to see get a continuation and unfairly taking it out on this show. However, why does the magazine matter? For what it is worth, I do see a few of the shows I listed under Kodansha and some under Kadokawa too (another producer).

If it was I would have quoted you, there were others complaining why this got a new season as well.

Thats cause it ain't that type of series and just a chill harem romcom.

That's cool and all, but when are they going to make an Akatsuki no Yona season 2? It's been almost 10 years since season 1.

Good news!
The first season was fun for me and the characters were likeable for the most part, even though it's been a little slow at times.
Looking forward to this :)

Because Kodansha seems to adapt every romcom manga from their main magazine: Cuckoo, Rent a whore, Medaka, Quints, Senryu shoujo, Amagami, Megami cafe terasu

Guys, is it a spoiler if I point out that Erika will win the harem, even if I never touched the manga?
It is so damn obvious since literally 1st episode, that I don't even know what is the point of watching it.

I'm not shocked at all given how the ending to the first season went. I'll tune in but I'm keeping my expectations in check after how the show fell off near the end of the second cour.

Indeed, I would much prefer to see a S2 to Yamada 7 Witches, which never got and is a better show than this.

@Piromysl It's not about the outcome son, but the journey(even if nothing happens on it 😭)
