Just now watch it live on kadokawa's official YT channel.  It was a great premier episode although they didn't include any subtitle it wasn't that difficult to understand the situation.

It's basically Japanese Cindrella. It's quite melodramatic in good way. After so many high school rom-com this one is really a breath of fresh air. As expected art style is beautiful and I am really enjoying the traditional Japanese setting can't wait for next episode.

(Btw the song which they played at the end sounds prity good)

Apparently this episode was pre-aired yesterday
And this is being adapted from a japanese novel (not LN). That's quite rare.
I wonder when this anime takes place. There are western clothes so I'm thinking Taisho (same as Demon Slayer). Nice to see more anime in a historical setting like this.
The meeting with the dad was hard to watch. I feel so sad for Miyo.
Trains! Yeah, this is probably Taisho.
Miyo's backstory is sad too.
Idk how to feel about Kiyoka being this typical super-handsome shojo character, but eh. Now I also fell bad for Kouji lol.
This can be really wholesome. Looking forward to more.

Netflix being a BIG W for once simulcasting this show weekly? BLESSINGS!

It can be said that Miyo Saimori isn't the most liked in her family, being treated like a slave. Though there're people like Koji Tatsushi, who will talk up to her and comfort her, he longs to save her from the vermins of the Saimori family with her biological father Shinichi, remarried wife Kanoko and along with her spoiled brat daughter of Kaya. Koji being nice to her is a godsend, though he does not want to be seen and affiliated to her from the others' view. And the perchance that Miyo is summoned to Shinichi's room to discuss about Koji's marriage proposition...to Kaya. Hopes be damned for Miyo expecting the worst, but her being wed to another man: the merciless Kiyoka Kudo, it's a damning message that they need to get rid of her quick and easy.

Koji feels bad for Miyo, because the arranged marriage proposition is forced on the youngsters, not being able to have a say in the matter. It may not be bad luck, but it's just fate that both Miyo and Koji were meant to be separated, and all Miyo had was the few things that remained with her, plus the Kimono that Shinichi wanted her to wear as a sign of departure. A house devoid of memories and the good life she once had since her mother's passing, that life being readied to move on to greener pastures to seek out the Kudo family and meet the fiancée-avoider Kiyoka, a beautiful man in the flesh.

The story that starts with a marriage, Kinema Citrus's premiere is just fantastic. Netflix's exclusive show may just very well be a contender for AOTS.

It's a simulpub, so it releases every week, just like CR and Hidive.

Miyo Saimori seems like such a graceful character. But seeing the funeral and her sorrow was a tough one....

It looks like this show will retain a dramatic-like tone with a mixture of light and serious moments. I'm interested to know more about  Saimori family beyond than just that flashback though. Hopefully this anime will take a deeper dive into their history. Also looking forward to seeing how they will develop Miyo's character.

Now the visuals truly are high above the average of what usually shows like receive, from the characgter designs, to the landscape visuals. The VA cast also is premium level, simply said, the production value is all one can wish for, no wonder Netflix is licensing this.

Anyway moving on, was very much looking forward to this, these kind of stories set in a specific time period are something i enjoy. Now, our ugly duckling is as pitiful as you would expect, no wonder, living and growing up in a house like that, who would not be.

But fret not, because it is from today that her life is gonna take an unexpected turn, turn that will change it forever :)

Also the father has brown hair, his wife has brown hair, and then two daughters one with brown hair ... and the other with a blonde hair ... just saying, start asking some questions man.

Was looking forward to this because I mean this sounded like a certain something we all have been watching and hearing since fucking ages. The story of how a cruel step-mother and her bitchy daughter.. not daughters, making the living life of a meek girl hell.

Though hey mister father is somehow alive this time after remarrying, but that doesn’t make much difference anyways. I mean that man has poor eyes, I can see, but not to the point where he should’ve stopped looking after his daughter, at all. That man is a sucker who only does whatever his “loving” wife tells him to smh. From treating his first daughter Miyo as nothing more than a working maid around the house to fixing her marriage to someone who’s kind of infamous for his marriages.. Kudou Kiyoka. And if that wasn’t already enough, the couple married their second daughter, Kaya, to that someone who could very well be identified as the sole person who used to treat Miyo, like a normal person she was.

Miyo couldn’t be with the person she wanted to, and now there lies a whole new life with this new man. Fate has it written. Anyways, Miyo and her circumstances may look a bit too dramatic, and yes they’re, but that kind of thing actually happens. Off to a good start.

By the way Sakura Ayane and voicing super annoying characters.. a match made in heaven lol.

Netflix simulcasting anime. Finally! they did what they need to do for a long long time.

Well... well... I knew from first sight that Kaya is kinda b!tch and she really is. Thankfully, Miyo moved out of that shitty family.

  • It's a very gloomy show... for now.
  • Somehow (yes, somehow), the younger sister is depicted as blond. It's a tradition of girls' comics in Japan.
  • The background art for old wooden houses is tasteful.

Great to see Netflix not only simulcasting this after years of stubborness with their binge model, but it even comes out with a dub on the same day.  They definitely get it now that it's better to do things this way so that subscribers have motivation to stay subscribed rather than just binge everything over the course of a month.

So with this show, I definitely like what I'm seeing and it puts into full focus the nuances of arranged marriages, and even more so with Miyo being the black sheep of the family.  But there's somebody out there who would make Miyo happy in Koji.  I'm curious to see where things go.

Cinderella x Taisho Otome

Depressing first episode. One of the worst aspects was like how Kaya didn't even give a fuck about Koji. The only bit of light in Miyo's life thus far got taken away. However, Kudo will make her life worth living again.

Good start. Kinema Citrus never disappoints productionwise.

That was heartbreaking, watching Miyo was painful. Ueshama really made me feel her pain with her voice acting. Miyo's family or should I even call them family, are trash. Miyo finally left that place, I hope she finds happiness with her husband. Also this feels a bit similar to Taisho Otome but the roles are reversed.

The production was really neat and beautiful. Props to Kinema Citrus.

It's as good as I expected.
Gives off that serious Mahoutsoukai no Yome vibes with Main Girl who is miserable, lost everything, has nonexistent self esteem and is forced into a relationship with a gentle, yet imposing man.

I have a question tho. Why did Kouji's dad tell Miyo's dad to have Miyo engaged with Kiyoka? Since he (Kouji's dad) wants to fulfill his son's wish for Miyo to be happy, why did he doubled the work instead of just engaging him with Miyo?

Because family's prosperity take priority over his son's wishes. Kiyoka is considered as superior marriage partner, so Kouji was matched with her. Miyo was not even supposed to be matched with anyone, but Kouji's dad managed to assign marriage with Main Guy, just so she could escape this hellish estate, which he thinks will make her happy, thus fulfilling his son's wish.

As someone who's read the light novels, all I can tell you without spoiling things is that he's not actually doing it because he actually cares about Miyo or wants to get her with Koji, but because he has his own agenda.

First episode starting with a painful bang, you can't help but feel sorry for Koji who can't marry the love of his life. The head of the Kudo family is super pretty too!!

The ending song was beautiful too, this truly looks like it's going to live up to expectations

Someone already mention the reverse Taisho Otome, it's what I thought at first as well. But Miyo is a much more realistic portrayal of arranged (or forced) marriage. Though I wish I could see Miyo resist even a little bit.

What a start to this story. I loved the first episode so much. Poor Miyo. I felt so bad for her. She doesn't deserve all of this. She was treated like that all this time. I hope this is the start of her happy life. That childhood montage of Miyo was so freaking sad with Evan Call's music. The legend never misses with his music. Made me tear up just watching Miyo's sad childhood. I'm fully invested and I'm looking forward to more of this story. The art and animation are really nice as well. A W Netflix Production.

I feel grateful that I read the manga first before watching the anime lol so at least I don't have to expend my energy and anger on Kaya twice. She's annoying and.... extremely annoying.

I'm actually still a bit shocked by Kudou's voice, but seeing him animated already makes me happy enough :')

Miyo's life is terrible. I'm glad she moved to the Kudo household. It can only go up from here!

I loved seeing how the pale color palette from the rest of the episode became more lively and colorful once Miyo met Kudo.

Anime of the season material right here. Between all the below par non-sequels this season, this one seems to be the most promising, both entertaining and calming.

The Kudo family house being near the hills, I can already imagine the amazing visuals we're gonna get the following episodes.

p.s. the voice acting is just so on point, love it.

Someone who has read the manga here. Though it may not seem like it, it is actually a fantasy anime. Miyo's mother was from a very elite clan that possess the power of manipulating the heart (or mind if you say so). The family is also extremely secretive, so their whereabouts are unknown as far as I've read. Miyo, unfortunately, didn't inherit her mother's power (I am not saying anything further to this mother.) Kaya, on the other hand, possesses supernatural power. So, of course, she is considered superior. So, of course, Kouji's father would want Kaya instead of Miyo as a daughter-in-law. The reason they sent away Miyo to the Kudo house is because they thought she does not have the slightest chance to become Kudo'd wife because that's how infamous Kiyoka's reputation is. Kouji's father does not give a rat's ass about what his son wishes. He just wanted to make sure his son does not make any more ruckus. Look who's laughing now.

Oh god it was so sad seeing her living like this , especially the scene where she remembers her mom. Great first episode. The OST and the voiceacting are fantastic. I feel very much for Miyo and the glimpses of her childhood made me very emotional.
I hope that her life in her marriage will be better and that she will be treated better by her husband than by her
terrible family members.
I look forward to experiencing this anime for the next few weeks.

I really hope Kaya get's a couple more facettes that can make me empathize with her. But as of right now, I didn't see any hints of her being a more complex character.
But I'm excited about the interactions between Kudou and Miyo:-)

Also, I fear that the weekly format could kill every momentum for this very emotional story...

I do like more mature romance tales like this, it reminds me of both Mahoutsukai no Yome and Taishou Otome Otogibanashi, especially the latter's setting, but reversed in characters basically. A bit melodramatic, but a decent set up for what's to come. The annoying family that Miyo had around her kind of had me irked, but that's the only real complaint I have to start. Hope to see more characterization down the road, but this was a decent premiere with good visuals to go along with it.

Arranged marriages are always difficult experiences due to the ways in which it can get messed up. And the best example here is how the stepmom treats Miyo. Even in such harsh times its nice to see Miyo has friends. Still that was a harsh way of losing the one you crushed on. It was so sad seeing how little Miyo in terms of belongings. They really managed to nail the pre war era quite well. The kudo house sure was pretty remote though i guess perfect for a remote study. Overall a pretty strong opening ep that showed well how tragic Miyo's life had been to this point and the potential for change at meeting Kudo. Animation so far has been pretty impressive so far.

So a work from Netflix. I hope it doesn't take a bad turn. I don't trust Netflix but I can have some hope when it comes to anime. The Japanese don't mess with their anime.

They are taking the base of Cinderella and building on it. They even included the soot and the tree. I don't think the rest from there on will go like Cinderella. The Beauty and the Beast maybe.
If you are going to disagree with me, don't bother talking to me. I will seriously hurt you!
