This was my most awaited episode, Noé's backstory was one of my favorite parts of the manga and seeing it animated was a good experience. Overall, this episode was good as always.

Finally, we got to see more of Noe's past and background storytelling. He was quite a timid and gentle kid back then. A bit too sensitive though. He and Domi had quite a cute relationship.

Felt like this was an important episode to see the past relationships of the main cast including Vanitas.

Noe used to be fairly different yet the same, what a backstory. The anmation was so flipping cute xD, loved the direction, the dark scenes were chilling, the happy scenes were fun, brilliant episode.

So Noe lived with human guardians who were a lovely couple of old people until they unfortunately died - hopefully due to old age. He got kidnapped then was bought out by domi's grandad. So noe had the power to read memories before that then, and because he didn't learn it with the grandad did he? Or am I confusing things lol. Young noe is a whole ass vibe, just looking at the positives, he was thrown about as an auction item and is happy domi's grandad bought him because he gets breakfast and now can interact with vampires, how cute lmao. Their interactions and them growing up was delightful, but early on you could see the signs that something was different about louis, first I thought he was just antisocial until noe drank his blood. So he was going to be a cursed one from young? Or was that predicted? Either way is sad for a child to know that, and tgeh grandad did seem like a more laissez faire kind of guy but it was too bad that he wasn't there to reassure louis, but noe and domi filled that spot quite nicely. When domi said she was jealous of louis I thought he'd snap but instead he just comforted her, wallowing in his own pain, how selfless man. Sidenote domi's love for noe is too pure lmao.

As soon as he started making stakes, something lit in my head, I straight thought he was preparing weapons for noe to kill him with, imagine being a child and having to think about letting your friend kill you, deep stuff. He was slowly and slowly creeping towards insanity, making more and more stakes and I thought he'd have a joker transition lol, and he basically did, one shotting their childhood friend who was drinking another ones blood. Somehow noe got through his raged self, showing the power of FAMILY! Jokes aside I don't doubt noe's actions, killing a friend is harder than it look, especially when you'er basically FAMILY, but the grandad must be some op guy to one shot a cursed one. So the grandad was merging with his image of the bad spirit, seemingly because he directed his helplessness towards the grandad? When vanitas came in, ooo the colours were perfect, breaking through the bleakness with a sparkle of blue that complimented his eyes and contrasted to his clothes, brilliant stuff, direction gets a 10/10 from me!

RIP louis, will be missed, a great brother, freind and self sacrficing doughnut who managed to keep his family together at the cost of his life. Now it makes more sense why noe wanted the book of vanitas so much, to make sure that no one else has to follow in louis' shoes.

That Charlatan thingy is quite freaky. Noe was quite angry for some reason when that thing called the name of a kid, Louis. Man, Noe was so fuckin' cute as a kid. And, on top of that a crybaby. His relationship with Domi and Louis was so precious. I adored it so much. It was a rather cute but sad episode because of Louis's memories. But, seeing Noe's backstory made me like him even more.

The animation was really cute in this episode. A really good episode once again. Felt bad for Louis tho. Makes sense why he was so angry.

The history between Noe and Charlatan...is one of deceit, full-on sad, gory darkness and despair.

So Noe knew Dominique...and Louis, Domi's brother. Being raised as a human, Nee clearly exhibited human emotions with the loss of her grandparents, until his "Master-cum-Teacher" brought him to a place to expose him to the world of vampires, and it's a whole new world for Noe with Domi and Louis, very cute and childlike that's hidden under a shroud of secrecy.

It's clear that as is with the Archiviste power that Noe has, he saw a different vision of Louis, and that could've probably been a life saved if his powers were strong to save a curse-bearer whose life has been internally been eaten away of his humanity with the passing of time.

The curse-bearer executions by borreaus that wrench the village children and Louis, now we understand why Noe wants to save their significant lives, but under the curse of the Blue Moon, that chance is essentially doomed from the start. And that's where the Charlatan comes into play...slowly making Noe more heart-wrenching massacred from the inside out.

I guess I could say that Vanitas is Noe's knight in shining armour, but what an episode this is.

Today's episode was such an adorable one with the chibi aesthetic and funny moments >////<, but it very tragic as well. I was awaiting for the backstory and looking forward to how they are going to animate it and it was flawless to say the least. I loved every second of it! Sadly, it felt like the 25min episode went by so quickly :<

Poor Louis, he had such a rough childhood and sad ending to him.. and also, poor Domi and Noe. They were all children that deserved much happier lives. Despite being a manger reader, it took me by surprise when the grandfather swooped into the scene between Noe and Louis. I mean, damn, the studio made that part so creepy and crazy which I LOVED! Definitely, the grandfather is so suspicious and creepy on a whole different level of other creepy characters like "Charlatan".

Kyaaa! I can't wait for next week's new episode!

I was crying :'(( I really like Louis backstory. He was abandoned by his family, become "experiment" for his grandpa, he bottled up his feeling and put it all by carving that wood. If he can't have future, then at least he want to entrust his death to his friend but he can't even have that.

But, they cut the sentence I want to hear the most here,
"From the bottom of my heart, I thought it was abominable, the fact that even in a situation like this, I was relieved to be alive, struck me an absolutely abominable."

This sentence really convey how complex human emotion is. Usually in anime or manga, if someone important died, they are either sad or pretend to be not sad but in here, what struck Noe the most is his feeling of disgust because he feel relieved to be alive. This remind me of my own experience when my best friend died.

Heads off to bones and the director for adapting it so well.
This was one of my favourite moments in the beginning of the manga and so far the best episode of the anime without a doubt.
Louis backstory shows that how many people despite looking like the most blessed ones can end up being the most cursed ones as well. This was potrayed when domi said that she wished to be in Louis shoes(If only she knew)
Not to mention he got a meaningless death...
Animation was brilliant as well in this episode and my assumption was right on the money i guess. So they are cutting the weakest , unesscary parts of the manga and adapting the important parts in such a good manner! I hope it stays this way. It is one of the best adaptations i have come across in a while tbh
However i might have a little complain regarding the short inner monolouge but other then that amazing

Honestly, the only complaint I could have about this episode is that I somewhat miss some of Noé's inner dialogue, giving us further insight of his view of Louis' change.
And that tiny scene with Louis going "Poor you" when they met would have been great to see as well, but alas, you can't get everything!

Other than those things, this episode was everything I could have hoped for. I'd even say they improved various scenes, not only because of the music and voice acting - which were phenomenal by the way - but by what they chose to cut and the timing of them. Hiding the fact that Louis had been beheaded throughout the episode and to then hit us with that sudden scene of Noé splattered with blood was a really good choice and it was done so well, in my opinion.

Also, Louis' laugh gave me life.

In short, it definitely lived up to my expectations and makes me excited for the future scenes to come, especially once my favourite arc hits!

This episode was incroyable. The inner monologues could have been more but that's my only real complaint, the backstory and the episode itself was great to watch regardless. The music really added so much atmosphere and emotion here too.

Really well done backstory, storytelling was top notch. The directing of this episode was great, specially the ost choices. Also animation/visuals were amazing as usual.

Noé, Domi and Louis looked really cute as kids. Their interactions were adorable and amusing. I was bracing myself for the impact and maybe I braced too hard cause this didn't make me feel sad at all. Thou the cruelty and reality of things really hit hard. Also that last scene with Vanitas saving Noé was cool.

This ep caught me off guard cause the start was so adorable and sweet and then it got sooo dark. Noe's been through some twisted shit but I have a horrible feeling it's nothing compared to what Vanitas has been through.

Noe's sensei seems like a pretty evil person considering how likely it seems that he was just waiting for Louis to lose his sanity and observe the results, plus I'm pretty sure his reasons for taking Noe aren't exactly noble.

I was so relieved when Vanitas made it in time to save Noe from Charleton... thought he might've been a bit preoccupied with Jeanne haha

AMAZING. BRILLIANT. MAGNIFICENT. I LOVE IT
baby and young noe is so very cute there were so many chibi scenes haha innocent little boi until he saw his friend, or should i say family, die in front of him
very sad towards the end but i really loved the transition to vanitas saving noe. ugh so perfect he's so charming and so beautiful how he saved noe they match well very good partners (or more 👀)
i saw some manga panels on twt after i watched the ep and the only thing im disappointed about is them not showing the chopped body parts lmao but i understand the censorship and all i mean i watched this on cable tv on anime channel so yeah. im very excited for the next ep!
also cute how hanae natsuki-san voiced young noe haha if im not wrong

A backstory on Noe, Domi and Louis.
The first half was just wholesome but it ended up very badly..
Domi ends up getting killed by the Teacher.

We've got a lot of information about the characters in this episode. Now we know why he wants to save them so badly.

Charlatan almost took over Noé but thanks to Vanitas. He's saved.

This episode was SOOOOO good. Everything about it was near perfect. I feel like the direction of this episode and their adorable, wholesome relationship as kids, really sold the despair Noe felt when he almost gave in and let the charlatan corrupt him.

Noé's backstory never fails to make me emotional, it's so sad how he couldn't save or help Louis. Even the gift he was looking forward to was stakes for Noé to kill him. I wish Louis would have lived a happier life with Domi and Noé, he didn't deserve this

All in all this was so nicely adapted, thank you Bones T_T

Backstory! A very sad backstory! It caught me off guard at first since the flashback was so cute but then that ending :(

Great episode, probably my favorite so far

What makes this episode great is that they are capable of going from funny/cute to dark/serious and then back and forth so smoothly. Really loved how the episode was directed. Also, can't go without mentioning the great VA work this episode. Kayano and Shimabukuro as Domi and Louis was excellent and obviously Ishida is a legend and casting him as Sensei is also an excellent choice.

My least favorite part was when Vanitas showed up at the end. I've come to the conclusion that he's my least favorite character.

Y'all do realise that a good chunk of boys in anime, especially early teens and younger, are voices by female VAs, right?
I don't even think he sounded "girlish" in the first place, he sounded exactly what his archetype usually sounds like in anime, but to dismiss it as "ofc he would, his saiyuu is a girl after all" is doing the voice actress - who honestly did a tremendous job - a horrible disservice.

Another solid episode. Wasn’t a fan of the comedy, but the bit with the cursed vampires at the end was well done. This was a good time for a backstory flashback, although we hardly got any screentime to cement the relationship between Louis and Noe so the tragedy that is his death didn’t hit as hard as they wanted it to. I do like the OST though.

I didn't mean to disrespect to voice actor. I explained the reason he you sounded girlish. Of course, not all female voice actors who voice men will sound girlish, but that's the main reason he sound girly here. Of course, this is my personal opinion and I personally don't think the voice fits the character, her peformance was great nonetheless

The presentation was a phenomenon. The encroaching doom and climax was well executed. We also learned more about the Curse Bearers and how they are different from none-curse bearer vampires.

Again, the aesthetics is great so far.

What a rollercoaster of emotion. From enjoying friendship of adorably cute kids to crying over a curse-bearer's death who wants to be killed by his friend, but in the end it didn't happen. Every production value, audibly and visually, all of them deepen the emotion even further.
