Including me :D Anime fans have such a bad image in the eyes of people and they are not wrong. At least I can't help but agree. What do you think? Do you feel this at regular basis? Thinking that you're lame? How to counter this feeling? |

Is it bait? Maybe. Is it true? Definitely. I wish anime fans weren't so cringey, most people I know irl who speak about anime are neckbeards who publicly talk about loving their waifu (and perhaps more embarrassingly) talk about liking no game no life. |

It depends more or less on the type of anime-watcher and not the anime itself. I know people like irl who have over 500 anime completed on their lists, who are married, who own their own vehicle, who have their own career job, who have tons of friends and social connections outside of MAL (lol) and do not suffer at all with being a hikkikomori or even a neet. Like even I have an above average anime obsession, but I work full-time and actually pull my weight. My only issue is that I have a social anxiety condition and am extremely introverted with bad social skills that keeps me from wanting to just get out more with people and such. |

The thing is, there are people who love anime, and then there are people who wear it on their sleeve inappropriately. And I don't mean wearing cosplay to a convention, or doing a Naruto run with friends as an inside joke. Some people will get defensive, but we all shudder when the image gets evoked. There is always that guy that wants to ramble on about some fanfic with you with a really bad Japanese accent with all the -u's pronounced and extended, does the Haruhi dance and just pretends like everyone in the world thinks it's cool, pull special moves and yell the names as a greeting, role plays anime characters in a public setting. That guy is what people see as an anime fan. People who love anime are not all that guy. In fact, the majority of them are not. |

You're lame if you act like a dork, your hobbies don't matter. It happens far too often that it starts to consume a man's self of self; this also happens with other things very often like say science-fiction as a genre and a man of identity is almost always cringy. |

Hey I’m not lame. I’ve met people who are anime fans who are smart, strong and good looking with talents and everything. I am not even sure is most anime fans are lame because most of the fans i’ve met weren’t lame. That being said the lamest person I’ve met was indeed into anime. This! Marvel fans are oftentimes so insufferable and lame that I believe the stigma should be handed over to them. |

Anime does alter some people's perception of reality to the point where they think ankle weights will unleash their chakra gates. There are also some people who take plagiarist license and repeat the campy one-liners they hear in shounen anime. Obsessed Marvel fans are a different animal entirely. |

People, who live their whole life in a holy way so they can go to heaven, are just allergic to the fun and good stuff in life. @ that identity discussion There is nothing wrong with associating a part of your own identity with something you love. Even hobby artists or photographers will view their hobby as a part of their identity, even if it's not their job and main purpose. Some anime (and Marvel) fans just shove it down everyone's throat and will act like others are the most intolerant person, if not the devil, for not liking their hobby. I also won't say, I'm "just watching anime". It actually becomes some kind of lifestyle and favorite medium, but I won't force it on other people and I won't consume exclusively japanese medium. |

That's not that hard to achieve, since you could start at young age and all of the shorts etc count as anime too. If you mean series: most have 12 episodes and other people might watch more live action series. In the end, it's the same amount of time you spend on consuming media. It doesn't matter, if people watch 20 Netflix live action series or 40 anime in the same time. |

I was more or less just referring to those who lead productive and even somewhat fulfilling life-styles, while at the same time enjoying all the benefits of anime. Also now that I think about it, I guess it wouldn't be that hard to watch a lot of anime or episodes from TV/Movie series, seeing how these types of entertainments are usually consumed by fans of these medias, seeing how they make up some of the most enjoyed pass-time. |

I love the lame, cringey, shameless anime fans. When I see a skinny looking weeb wearing a fedora on campus, I want to tip my non-existent hat in respect. The people I can't stand are the wanna-be normies who are all like "omg you guys are such losers and neckbeards! You make us look so bad to the normies!" Seriously go hang out with the normies if you wanna be one of them so badly. The anime community is for autistic weirdos waging waifu warfare. |

Oh, such brave words, you totally owned all the 16-year-olds who just do what they enjoy instead of what you consider to be right and normal. You didn't even bother explaining why is it a bad thing or anything. That just sounds like those imbeciles making fun of otherkins or kids who like playing fortnite. Let people do what they like, if it doesn't hurt anyone I don't see a problem with that. Only an insecure person would attack people like that. @Shicchi no, never felt like this. Maybe the reason you have this feeling isn't because of anime alone. Who are even "anime fans" to begin with? In Japan nearly everyone that I know enjoys anime to a certain extent and I don't consider most them "lame". Maybe it's the aforementioned insecurity. |

Good grief, I hate self-loathing anime fans so much. (I refer to those who hate themselves for liking chinese cartoons anime). Fuck the “anime is trash and so am I” meme. If you keep looking down on yourself and show it visibly, other people will do the same to you, which is another reason why people mock anime fans. Yes, there is weird shit in the medium, but its still not a reason to hate yourself for watching this medium. I have low self esteem, but for reasons completely unrelated to anime. And I don’t bitch about it either. |
