Important: The main site for the challenge list generator will be unavailable for an hour daily
If you are trying to sign-up and the challenge list generator link doesn't work (returns an error page) please try the alternate site or wait a couple of hours for it to be fixed. These errors tend to be related to the hosting site. You can mention the error here so we learn about it. If you don't want to wait you can either mention (@ ) here or send a message either to me or to @SheyCroix (they will answer faster). Just mention the error and that you want the sign-up form. You will still need to manually create your challenge list. Both sites are linked in the "Signing Up" section of the "How to Play".
You can edit your form whenever you'd like after posting; however, please keep the font size readable.
"I saw that someone who finished after me has been added to the users that finished the challenge, but I'm not added yet. Why?"
This user likely submitted their turn-in form before you, but needed to fix a problem to successfully complete the challenge. Rather than delete the turn-in post, we ask the user to update it. Please be patient, we'll get to you as soon as possible.
"Why is the challenge period only until December 24, if it's a yearly challenge?"
This is to give us enough time to check the forms of everyone who finishes the challenge within the final few days, and to give participants enough time to fix any potential errors.
"Why are you asking for a start and end date for each anime used?"
To make sure you are watching them during the challenge period.
"If it says watch an anime, can I use a movie/ONA/Special/OVA for that item?"
Unless otherwise stated, you can use any type of anime for the items.
"Can I use the same anime for different items?"
No. You can only use one anime/entry per item of the challenge.
"Can I use split-cours as one entry?"
All the episodes must be on one entry. If they are in two different entries, then they count as two different anime.
--- Split-cours are series with a total duration of two cours or more, and that instead of airing in succession there's a break in between broadcasting dates for the series that lasts a season (3 months). They could be identified as second+ seasons, when the anime itself continues counting the episodes as one series, without restarting to one (e.g. when the first episode of the second season is 13th, instead of episode one).
"Can I use different seasons/entries of the same anime for one or more of the items?"
As long as they are in different entries, yes, you can.
"If I started watching something in late-December last year, can I use it for this challenge?"
No. Only anime you started watching during the challenge period (January 1, 2018 - December 24, 2018). The only exception to this is the challenge item of on-hold/dropped anime.
"If I signed up / started the challenge in x month, can I use anime I previously watched during the year for this challenge?"
Yes. You can use any anime you started watching during the challenge period (January 1, 2018 - December 24, 2018) regardless of when you posted your sign-up form. Do remember to state the start date the same as the one for the earliest watched anime.
"Can I have airing anime in my sign-up form when I want to post the turn-in?" // "Can I use airings to complete the challenge?"
All anime used for the challenge must be watched during the challenge period: from January 01, 2018 to December 24, 2018. We can allow the use of airings ONLY if the anime finish during the last week of December (Dec. 25th to Dec. 31st) and such date is specified in the entry. Anime that continues airing next year won't be allowed and thus will be marked as invalid. For us to allow an airing anime:
the user MUST be caught up to the latest released episode (available online at least subbed) when turning in
it must be an anime that started airing before December
the user will need to wait till the last week to turn in (Dec. 18th - Dec. 24th)
the user can only have at most 2 airing titles in their form
their finish date will be added as Dec 24 or later if they had to fix something within their form
"Why do I have to add the anime title as it appears here in MAL? Some anime have really long titles ; I prefer the English titles."
This is to make it easier for us to check your anime list and/or search for that title. Remember that not everyone has watched the same things as you.
"Why do I have to post the sign-up form in the thread? Can't I work with my challenge somewhere else?"
You can work with your challenge in your place of preference, but we need your challenge in the thread when it's time to verify it (when you turn in). Also, some items might ask you to look for information on other challengers' lists. Having your form there will help everyone.
"Why will only my first attempt be added to the list of users that completed the challenge? Why not the rest as well?"
Given the number of participants trying this challenge and the forms we must check, doing so over at least one of your forms is enough to make sure you are complying with the rules. Once you've finished one challenge, you prove you can be on your own and that you can build up your own challenge list.
"How do I find the source of an anime? Is there an easy way?"
You can try checking the Seasonal Anime page. If you try a search there of your selected type you might be able to find some (otherwise try previous seasons). Alternatively try a web search:

NinjaNed said: Hey Y'all, After finding it hard to find an Anime that is adapted from a picture book of all things, along with Radio, or Digital Manga and what have you, I made a python script that pretty much went to every page of MAL and gout their source and other info that would help you choose which one to watch for challenge 48-50 and 87-90. I'm not sure if anybody's actually posted something similar, but hopefully this can help others out. The code I used to find it is also in the same Github repository that the links are in.
Google Sheets Spreadsheet (Track Progress)
Hello!
I’m @i_yuuko-chan! As this year challenge the listing came a little bit different, and hopefully simpler, I came up with something just to help those busy souls that cannot deal with the dread work of creating their own spreadsheet to track the progress of their challenges, but need one nevertheless.
I had 02 things in mind while creating it: help you track your progress and generate a BBCode automatically. (Nothing sophisticated like what Conde_Mohr made for us last year, sorry!) So, it’s very simple and all, but I hope it helps you not to worry with such works.
The spreadsheet contains 3 tabs: “Basic Instructions”, “MAL2018_Anime” and “MAL2018_Manga”. Click on the link provided and create a copy by following these steps [ File > Make a copy ].
Using an external site to find series on MAL ** The site in the following example is not working currently; example will be removed soon if the site stays down.

You can select episode amount and episode length. This also helps with various other challenges.
I'm relatively new to using it, but there's various challenges I found out it can be used with.
The 120 minutes movie length one for example:
You select movie as type, then select the duration (120 minutes and up).
It could possibly also be used with the manga challenge but as I don't participate in that one I have not yet attempted this.

At least I'll be the first somewhere. Hopefully...
I hope you have fun with the challenge.
PS: I'm not giving out recs for #102 if not asked directly. Any mention for #102 that also mentions 2 or more challenge mods that are not me will get Oniisama e... as a rec if they get me online on time (unless they already watched it), and I'll try to talk to the others so that they don't rec them anything else.
I'm ok with you asking a couple of us, but connecting and getting 17 mentions, most of which tag 6 people, only because you want to get a faster answer, is annoying and unfair to those who don't do that.
Wow 100 challenges this year, going to have to watch a ton
Also could I get some recommendations for challenge 102 and 27 please :P
27 - recommended in the challenge discussion thread
103- recommended by a staff member
Glad I bumped my goal list to 500. I'll be sure to complete the hardcore edition and will probably frequent this thread for suggestions a lot this year. /weap
I hope I can actually finish this challenge without having to do any revisions this year. With the amount of requirements for the highest difficulty, however... unlikely to happen for me, but I can try.

81. Watch an anime which began airing the same day you joined MAL - It would be the 9th of any month/year
If anyone could please help me out.

Either I'm doing something terribly wrong or there's no 'nime which started the 14th of May.
Could someone lend me a hand?

Might as well get this over with.
I need a rec. Can be from my PTW, but I am open to most things. Ideally, nothing super long.
Also seen AWC staff rec. @Sojin, care to enlighten me with your wisdom?
i'm finding it very hard to find an anime with no discussion thread or reviews if anyone could point me in the direction of any? that would be so helpful! (103) and (105)
Somuchgamer said: I keep getting this message whenever i try to send my information. What do i do?
Seems the website will be sleeping for 1 hour every day. So please wait a bit longer and try again. For now try checking the items and reading all the info.

I think you haven't searched for that long..... try a bit more with unpopular series, those related to stuff already watched or old series
omegakiller said: Watch the Top anime recommended to your Favorite Anime. For this challenge, does it have be the ONLY the top recommend or the top one you haven't seen yet from your favorites?
the explanation says "the most recommended title that you haven't watched". So yes, only the first one (most recommended) not watched already
TahZin said: A query about the Extra Title. Is the "Master of ..." title is restricted to the mentioned genres only, and not the anime type (TV, Movies etc.)?
Only those mentioned. You can try a personal restriction that limits to certain types. The TV one wasn't added this year because some items are too hard for it

It's good that Slop leveling won the CR awards with such a power gap, Gaijin Weebs don't deserve good anime.
Not after what they did to frieren, kusuriya, and many others
query , anime i started b4 2017 but finished this year doesnt count right =w=

Been meaning to watch some of these, so I'll check them out :)
