THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Loool, taking shirt off during the match. Silly. Kazama's awesome this episode, making strong impressions on the field. He even got a solo goal against their rival team. I find it almost amusing that Seikan is getting salty about the match's pacing. Using a sliding move looked like a desperate attempt to stop Kazama's momentum. Pretty tense match. |

woh, Kazama is pissed off. |

Tsukamoto obviously doesn't know the reason why Kazama wants to play the whole thing. He cared for his well being. |

Great episode, Easily the best episode of Days till date in terms of sport. This episode addressed one of the two major problems I had with the show, The match presentation. We finally got to see different plays, Actual dribbles, passes, decent amount of tackling, set pieces and even a good amount of shots instead of the old still frame for everything with running commentary. :D I wish they had done this for previous games as well, Especially the one against Indou. Nice offside trap at the start. Excellent performance from Kazama, He was styling all the way. Both of his goals were awesome and I loved his dribbles. Though apart from him, Ooshiba and Kimishita I don't think any one else had much spotlight this episode. Did that defender guy not even get a card for that tackle from behind? Kazama was pretty much through on goal and he tackled him down. He should have atleast gotten a yellow, Though red would be the way to go. Kazama injured. :( Tsukushi notices but decides to announce it, Now Kazama is mad at Tsukushi since he wanted to show his Mom that he was fine. That was actually a nice way to show Kazama's development since joining Seiseki, His Mom was always worried about him not fitting in anywhere and I'm guessing Kazama left home but now he's finally found a place to belong. Loved that small interaction between them. Hopefully we see some good Tsukushi development next episode and they continue presenting the match like they did in this episode. |

1) Fuck that dirty playing monkey guy. he should have had a red card by now. 2) Tsukushi did the right thing, sure Kazama wants to play in front of his mother but its not worth it to suffer a possibly career ending injury in a PRACTICE game. He'll have other opportunities to play in front of her and possibly on an even bigger stage. Anyway I'll enjoy this tension for the next few weeks until Kazama realizes tsukushi did him a favor and forgives him |
Around and around the cycle goes. |

Pushing on an opponent in the penalty area is a cautionable (yellow card) offence, as is verbally distracting another player, delaying play (which both teams are guilty of) and removing your shirt for a goal celebration. Using offensive and insulting language, pulling an opponents shirt (impeding movement with contact) to deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity, or using excessive force or endangering other players when challenging for the ball are all sending off (red card) offences. Basically, most of the players on that pitch should've been sent off. It's been obvious since the first match we saw that the creators know basically nothing about football, but to let so many obvious fouls pass is appalling, particularly when so many of them would've resulted in a penalty/free-kick or red card being awarded. It's almost as if they think the audience isn't smart enough to deal with rules being introduced so instead they just pretend they don't |

asaspades said: It's been obvious since the first match we saw that the creators know basically nothing about football If it's the anime staff that you're referring to when you say creators, that's not entirely accurate since they're just adapting what's given to them. It would be more accurate to put the blame on the mangaka since they're responsible for the original source material that's being adapted into what we're currently watching. Regardless, I agree with your statement. I don't even know anything about the sport, and even I could tell that there were multiple moments where someone should have been penalized. I can understand why Kazama is angry at Tsukamoto for what he did, but Tsukamoto is just being a good friend. If Kazama keeps playing on that foot, the injury could get worse and possibly even end his career. |

The football fan in me couldn't help saying "studs up from behind = straight red" :( I can look past the small dirty things like leaning on shoulders, shirt pulling, trash talking, barging into players etc as it's usually done very commonly in real life albeit on the sly...as for excessive celebrating not being booked I guess it groups all of this into the fact that sports anime gives the rules a lot of leeway except with hack tackles like the one that led to the free kick. But ffs that was a card on any day. |

I think the reason Tsukamoto was so insistent on informing the team of Kazama's injury was because of his own mother's injury. Tsukamoto knows exactly how debilitating life can be with a physical handicap, and there is no way that he (who cares about his friends to the degree that he does) would let Kazama risk his body not just for this match, (A PRACTICE MATCH no less) but any match at all. Tsukamoto is not fazed by Kazuma's anger because he knows from a lifetime of experience that there is nothing Kazama could "explain after the game" that would be more important than protecting him from harm. |

Kazama is true man, the words he has been saying for his reasoning show that everything will be alright, his mother will be happy for what tsuki-future-captain did and after they win, Kazama may cry. felt like i was playing a video game and pressing pause a lot, but when Kazama wannabe did it he was like 'nope' Every one seems to be fine and will just be an intense game, gl hf; gg wp |

Just one technique to create audience investment. Second, it's a case where it's better to gloss over it than to make it overly accurate. The series would be bogged down in tedium and technicality, suffer immense pacing issues, and lose all but the most hardcore sports fans. To be sure, this is an anime about a sport, not a sport that's portrayed as anime. |

As soon as I see players do insane tackles (as in, elbows to the face, 4 players pulling the shirt of a player, tackles from behind on a player going 1v1 vs keeper etc) and referee AT BEST gives a foul, but more likely than not, doesn't notice it since a bird distracted him, I just fast forward. I have Kuroko on my favorite anime list, yet when they played against a team that did fouls non-stop I fast forwarded the episode since I just don't wanna bother. |

Yowamushi Pedal actually uses this kind of tactic in a different way: One element of the story revolves around Fukutomi wishing to make amends to Kinjou for using a similarly low tactic in the past and face him again on equal terms. I think that's a much better use for it in the story, but I don't expect to see the "team/competitor that plays dirty" vanish from sports anime anytime soon. |

I have Kuroko on my favorite anime list, yet when they played against a team that did fouls non-stop I fast forwarded the episode since I just don't wanna bother. I understand the use for it since it really does make some people go balistic and hate opposition, get invested even more, get pumped and cheer as crazy when a team ultimately overcomes that obstacle and wins. I, however, view it as breaking the rules. Gonna use the example I already gave, Kuroko: So we have a sports anime based on real sport with some unreal elements, such as, nobody sees player on court, one guy dribbles whole team, super passes, guy that can hit the basket from any position on the court etc. But that's all within the rules of sport. They may have super powers, but none of those superpowers break most basic rules of basketball, to over-simplify, score baskets, don't be too rough against opposition. It's the same in other sports anime, I don't care about having "super-shots" or "super-speed" or super-anything, as a matter of fact, I love those things. I don't like tennis, yet I love Baby steps, I suck at basketball, yet Kuroko is on my favorites list, I hate, just hate volleyball, yet I really enjoy Haikyuu. Why? Because those same powers make things interesting. And people with better "powers" than protagonists are interesting to watch and cheer for protagonists as they need to overcome their weaknesses to win. However, when you then introduce people that cheat in ways they never would be able to in real life, that's when things change from "overcoming weaknesses" to "playing a new game". That's also the reason I didn't like No game No life while 99% of people did. All but one challenge in that anime was a game of two of them playing against people that cheat. Instead of having smart, well thought out games, it was intelligence vs cheating. I just don't enjoy that. |

DAYS is not only inaccurate, but to me it doesn't communicate real emotions of playing in a team. Part of the satisfaction of football comes from fair enforcement of the rules, having a clean game. If fowls like those committed in a match weren't penalised then the team would be incredibly resentful, and the impartiality and judgement of the referee would be called into question. If they aren't prepared to introduce people to the sport and place everything on the characters, then I have to question their decision to make a sports anime at all.asaspades said: Basically, most of the players on that pitch should've been sent off. I can definitely see what you mean, and I agree with you. It is better, for sure, when the overriding theme is overcoming weaknesses or winning through teamwork or something positive like that. Maybe looking at it another way, you could see it as "the other team is really nasty in their cheating, but we're better than that and we're not going to let it stop us" -- which is, in effect, a more positive position in line with teamwork and overcoming weaknesses and how it was played into KuroBasu the best I recall. I want to think that ultimately that's the intention of including a cheating team/player in anime like this, but maybe I'm giving the anime/manga creators too much credit. Barring that, one of the best outcomes would be for Higuchi's own team to shut his cheating down and apologize to Seiseki for disrespecting them and the sport. asaspades said: I disagree - Haikyuu! and Chihayafuru are quite accurate (setting aside things like the "super-quick") and are great sports anime. If they aren't prepared to introduce people to the sport and place everything on the characters, then I have to question their decision to make a sports anime at all. After rereading your and @nina4life's comments, I went back and read through the rules, card violations, etc., and rewatched the epsiode. I understand your complaints a lot better now. For instance, at one point, one of the players in the stands says "Higuchi's definitely a cut above in the mind games department", which I had taken as just that: mind games to disadvantage the opponent. But now I see that Higuchi really is playing a different game entirely (one full of fouls and misconduct), and it makes it a lot less satisfying to watch. Almost as bad as "that" scene in Battery. So, for a fan of soccer/football or sports in general watching Days, I can definitely see why it's a real turn-off. For me, I guess it depends on where it goes from here. If Seiseki chooses to rise above this, then there's something positive to be gained from it. If it brings the team closer together (and I agree, they aren't nearly as cohesive as Karasuma or Seirin) then that would be fantastic. If Higuchi gets sent off, that would be great too, but I think there's more opportunity for his cheating to be a catalyst to rally Seiseki if he stays on the field. In my anime viewing experience, there hasn't been a single anime that conveys the positives of team sports as brilliantly as Haikyuu!, so perhaps trying to hold them all to its high standard is a little unfair, but I think even other mediocre sports anime like Area no Kishi and Ginga e Kickoff were more enjoyable as sports anime than Days. I still enjoy Tsukushi's positivity and determination, so I watch mostly for that, but I think a lot rides on the next episode. |

It hasn't been said exactly why this match means so much to Kazuma but I can inferred that it has something to do with him mom watching. In which case i still think Tsukashi did the right thing. Him saying that shit about this matching being his most important or whatever crap he spewed before trying to play again is bs. Plus it just sounds like he's willing to sacrifice his future for that moment. Putting that on Tsukashi is bull, him agreeing to that would be giving up on Kazama's future self. I'm glad he didn't get all devastated from Kazama's words. He'll come around. Especially when he realizes his bestie saved him. |

In this episode there three major mistakes: 1. For taking shirt off it's a definetly a yellow card. (maybe, they don't show that moment, 'cause it's not important.) 2. For fan of Edgar Davids it's a definitely a red card. Don't matter if he did it even in a middle of a field - he is purposefully hit Kazama's foot from behind. All referee is probably stare on Ubukata all the time - this is a only explanation. 3. Normal referee will not whistle about ending of match, when team is having a corner kick. This is considered as a continuation of attack. |

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me |
