"Memories are the proof that one has lived." Ryuu takes the day off to remember the patron who taught him his first mistake. Another episode with themes that speak to a more mature audience.

I got a bit messed with the timeline, but that doesn't matter. I guess this fact transmits better the feelings of the nostalgic client.

a lot of the dates and times given don't add up right since the anime is completely out of order from the manga

omg that was incredibly bittersweet my heart was melting.

He would still reserve that day for Ryuuichi even though he wasn't alive anymore.

My favorite episode so far.

A psychological type of story has no need for chronology anyway, so I wouldn't consider it a flaw of this adaptation.

Champagne Pick-Me-Up wasn't picked to not let them see her wrinkles. Well thought, sure the hostess is an experienced drinker.

That was an unusually sad episode. The feels from this one were strong.

In the end, there are some drinks that just can't help people.

Case in point:

It's always the sad stories that are the best, aren't they?

This episode made me cry so hard. When the bar master told Ryuu that Ryuuichi was penniless, everything fell in place. It was heartbreaking to hear that he paid with part-time pay each time he came to the bar, and spending so much. What happened to Ryuu this episode is a really good example how good intentions don't always turn out so well. Ryuuichi telling Ryuu that sometimes youth can be cruel, that made me realize that Ryuuichi didn't have much time to live, and so he has to live everyday to the fullest. And if that means spending time at bars once in awhile as if he was living the life he used to had, then he should do it. It made sense what the bar master said about bartenders have to face what their customers want to present themselves as. People go to bars to forget about their worries.

This was a refreshing way of showing the message of living in the present. Definitely my favorite episode so far.

You have to be really stupid to waste your hard worked money on drinks just to remember what you used to be.

Odeng. I didn't catch onto some things until I'm reading this forum D:

Didn't know that guy was ill :( Awh.
Or that the bar was reserved even when he's not physically around anymore ;A;

Need to rewatch this ep D':

We get a glimpse of Ryuu's back story on this episode. I have to say I was surprised too when they show him making his first mistake, I guess he can be forgiving considering he was a novice.

He was a yung'n spouting nonsense at that time.

I'm glad I found this series. Normally I need to take some melatonin to help me fall asleep...but this anime does the job all on its own!

I like how everyone just showed up to watch the empty bar. I get the point of the story and the feelings it was trying to invoke but I just wasn't feeling this.

What a touching episode. It clicked with me a little late but it got the point across very well. The way this show introduces and develops a character in the span of one episode is so skillful and with such finesse I think it rivals shows like Mushishi in that respect. Definitely my favorite episode so far, although all of them are great.

It's a freaking slice of life anime, why does that matter?

Also, did anyone else catch the shot of a gangster or something with guns up in the air right after the sponsor segment. it's only for like a second even slowing it down as much as my video player will let me I wasn't fast enough with the pause button to get a screen cap. Does anyone know what that is all about?

I think this was my favorite episode so far. Ryuu learned a lot from that night, apparently—not only was his judgement flawed (in that he wanted to impose upon a customer's preferences), but hounding them about what they didn't like felt like a misstep as well, especially after he asked once and they didn't answer. Of course, Ryuu couldn't have known the man's circumstances from the first time he came to the bar, but that just means he had more to learn about observing.

Aside from the hostess being 30 and not having any neck wrinkles (come on now...), the type of glass he should've used seems more like a matter of serving knowledge rather than something specific to the customer herself. Then again it may be different, because I've been to parties where champagne was served in flute glasses, so it's either those servers who were wrong, or the etiquette isn't really that strict in real life.

Either way, it was an interesting episode and a nice take on not assuming others' circumstances.

So of course a street vendor and every guest character so far knows the story of Ryuu's major mistake...that is just such a weird way to tell a story.

Beautiful yet sad episode on Ryu's first mistake. Minegishi definitely is a strange man who despite being poor and sick, still spend a lot of money because he wants to retain the impression of being wealthy which is kinda foolish to me but I can't say he didn't live life to its fullest .
