THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I just watched this and thought... Nice, I actually sort of enjoyed this. The beginning was intense. It had this historical vibe to it and some bits of lol moments like the bath scene. I honestly didn't think this was much about comedy though. Some of the scenes were bit bitter. |

I'm kind of confused about the main characters. Not sure if Ryo (CV: Aoi Yuuki) and Kuro (CV: Minako Kotobuki) are both female or male, or just Kuro is female (I think I saw a bit of chest on him/her). Besides the fact that both are voiced by female seiyuus (I know having voiced by female seiyuus doesn't mean they are female, but I'm kind of confused). |

Dammit. I was really looking forward to it. I say the animation and music are fine. I liked Ryo too. He was surprisingly cute. o_O But... the story... was so lacking... >< |

The story wasn't that interesting and confusing, the animation was good but nothing to write home about in my opinion. Not the worst of the 4, definitely better than Arve Rezzle but that's not saying much. Death Billiards is still my favorite from this years project. |

Loved it. It's a good historical movie, the art and plot were pretty good. It's hard to fit a deep story in a 25 min episode, and i think that they did great. You get pretty good idea about what kind of person Sakamoto Ryoma was, and why Ryo was so devoted to him. Maybe understanding it requires some knowledge in japanese history. But for me it was actually the deepest piece af all four. DB was horrible, barely made it to the end. |

It was excellent, but it needed more meat to the bones. Hopefully there will be a sequel. |

This was very so so. It more or less was "look we have this idea for this long series/film, but for now lets throw couple things together" Some parts reminded me of Rurouni Kenshin (one of the first scenes is pure copypasta from the Tsuiokuhen OVA). It relies a lot on its audience knowing historical facts and well it doesn't really delivers, it's way too short for what it was aiming for. Also it's obvious that Hijikata isn't about to die on that ship, he has things to do, so unless they aim for a sequel the cliffhanger was pointless and saying that Ryo died after his master really didn't had any impact on me. The animation itself had very few interesting things, mostly related to water and sea. It's a pity because I'd really love one story made with Ryoma Sakamoto as protagonist. That said: "After killing all the crows in the world, I'd love to sleep in late with you". That was nice and macabre, if all scenes were as clever as that one I'd be much more enthusiastic about all this. I've hear something similar elsewhere and I wonder if this is an actual poem. |

This is too short to be a movie come on, the plot lacks alot of things i would say this seems like a prologue, but ok it's not a prologue or an OVA the animation was ok, the sound was nice, story bad |

So for my first completed Anime Mirai: Little Witch Academia > Death Billiards >>>>> Ryo >> Arve Rezzle. LWA wins with Death Biliards only because I love such a heartfelt and fun little stories, otherwise they were both awesome. Ryo was pretty pointless, maybe it would be better if it was full-fledged anime - it didn't quite got there as a 24-minute single episode. Arve Rezzle is simply "blargh" with additional "meh". |

I liked it. It could've been so much better if it had been longer and wasn't rushed, but for the time they had they did well. |

It feels like they tried to cram a series of 12 -24 episodes into 26 measly minutes. And what happened to the poor kitty ? |
Don't talk to me about character development if Kaizuka Inaho or Slaine Troyard are in your favorites. |

I didn't care too much for the story because it felt waaay too rushed for me. My ranking of Anime Mirai 2013 is: Death Billiards > Little Witch Academia >> Ryo > Arve Rezzle |

It was alright, the story was quite lacking though. A lot of these projects would do so much better as 1-2 hour movies! The pacing was okay for me too, just felt like they had to cut off the ending because of the time limit. Too bad. |

Damn it, could have been great it was a much longer movie. So much wasted potential. Disappointing Anime Mirai this year. Only truly good one was Death Billiards. |

At least they should have made a final fight scene. It totally feels unfinished and/or rushed. The animation and characters were cool though. |

Really had a lot of potential, should have been a movie. It was so short that I barely understood the plot at all. In fact, the only thing I really understood was the relationship between Ryo and his father figure (if that's the right term). However, like the others in this year's mirai, I really liked the art and animation, as well as the music. Again, would've been a lot better as a movie, so I can only give it a 6/10. |

I have a feeling, you need to be knowledgeable of Japanese history during the Meji period and of Ryoma Sakamoto... which I know neither about, to really enjoy this short. Probably why most people that have commented didn't really understand it either. Looked pretty nice REALLY should have taken this time period to have most of the episode be full of sword-fighting instead of boring exposition. |

I'll agree with the general opinion in that content and pacing of this feels kind of strange. The Anime Mirai works are conceived as training for animators so I wonder if sometimes that goal ends up taking precedence over producing something worth watching for an audience. I guess it was a decent collection of not-very-related scenes, though. Some decent humor and pretty good action, and it was very pretty. I've got to say I was surprised when Ryo suddenly started cutting people up, though, given how he was portrayed as kind of childish before that (and afterwards, too!). The bombardment shown in an early scene may be the 1863 Bombardment of Kagoshima although very few people were killed in that, likely too few for all those orphans shown later. Maybe it's just a case of artistic license. I'm going to be super-nit-picky and mention that the globe has modern borders marked on it rather than 1860s ones. |

Really liked the setting and the concept (from what I could grasp) but they tried to pack waaaaay to much into a 25min episode. After one viewing I'm confused as ballz about certain things.....most things actually. Definitely requires some research on the real world figures and at least another viewing but I quite liked it none the less. I could see this being really awesome if it was given a full series, with time to actually flesh out all the characters and the plot. Hell, all the Anime Mirai's from 2012 would be awesome with full series but I think this one would benefit most. |

If you don't know history, you're not gonna like it. If you know history, you're (very probably) not gonna like it. (I could list ALL the names, but I will only say: HIJIKATA. Sakamoto was somewhat off, too, but Hijikata is my weak point.) Give me back my 25 minutes I wasted on this. |

Was that an I'm drunk noise? Who killed the kitty?! O_O This ova tried to do to much and didn't have enough time. If it would of been a movie that was at least an hour or two long it would of been an outstanding story. That ED was something else I've never heard anything quite like it. |

I agree with everyone here, it's way too rushed, it would've worked great as a full length movie, but I still liked it. Rushed, but still well written and directed, I mean, what can you expect from a 26 minutes short movie, they had to skip around a lot. toneytigre said: The fight itself is not the point, so I believe it's better left open.At least they should have made a final fight scene. SailorKagome said: It feels like they tried to cram a series of 12 -24 episodes into 26 measly minutes. ^^^ This was the biggest issue, there was a lot of things going on at the same time and it made it quite messy, no real direction to the story. The action scenes were cool though, I would've probably enjoyed this more if it was a full length movie or a 1-cour anime. |

It was sad.. really bad. Animation masturbation but uncohesive plot due to their attemp to fit full-fledged series into one episode. The result was one big time-skipping mess that can serve no other purpose than as animation training. It doesn't work as movie because this is no movie, only sequence of random scenes. 3/10 |

I really enjoyed this and wanted to know more about why Hijikata killed Ryouma. Ryo was a good character that I wanted to see grow from the series, but I guess the creators left it there with no continuation. I really wanted to know who won between Ryo and Hijikata. The movie carried a lot of story and 26mins didn't give it well, they only touched and went. I love historical anime man, I wish they would've done a full series. I liked Ryouma, Oryo and Ryo chemistry. 7/10. |

Sakamoto Ryoma is the highlight of this short movie who doesn't really tell anything. Still a nice portrayal. Pretty background paintings. Enjoyment: 2/5 Score: 5/10 Doesn't exploit its format well. |
