| I think this statement isn't completely wrong. A good chunk of the anime fandom are teenagers. And a lot of anime are shounen or influenced by shounen elements. If anime isn't for kids, then that would mean that majority of anime that are produced are seinen and mature which is clearly not true. A more appropriate term would be "Anime is for teens" but teens are technically kids so.... Sure there are very mature anime (a good example is Monster), but I don't get why fans try their hardest to prove that anime is not for kids. |

| For the most part anime is indeed for kids. Although there’s no need to feel any shame because something you enjoy is targeted towards teenagers, at the end of the day everyone in the anime community are teens, or adults who never lost their passion for a medium that they love. |

| Originally, the concept of animation was to bring some form of entertainment for children, particularly with the invention of television. There weren't many (or almost none at all) children actors or actresses back then in the theaters where live performances (such as plays, operas, etc) were taken place. However there was entertainment like puppet shows. When television was invented, animation became part of the entertainment. It may be true that anime was first targeted at children audience but that was in the past. Animation has evolved tremendously over the years that the anime production is gradually reformed to suit different demographics. We now have different languages translation and air in specific countries of their own language. I guess in our generation, anime is pretty much popularised that many people of all ages are watching it. There are also anime channels which can be watched over satellite. Anime is just another form of entertainment. Kids, teens, adults, seniors - if you enjoy it, does it really matter how old you are. |
