Self-explanatory. What are some shows that you think would create a lot of controversy if they were airing currently? And why do you think they would create controversy? Is it because of the subject matter, artstyle, jokes, or something else? It would be great if you elaborate.

never mind that, kasane can't ever be adapted because of its content, sure, it got a live action but it was tame compared to the manga's themes.
well, violence jack is the answer

Pretty much all anime :p
Just saying Japanese Otaku sensibilities don't exactly align with those of western cultures.
Two that definitely would twist twitters britches would be Koi Kaze and Kodomo no Jikan.
Too many other examples to name, older anime dgaf about your feelings ;)

Now and Then, Here and There touches on the whole abortion issue by taking a pro life stance. So yeah if airing today that series would be incredibly popular on twitter lol.

Unless it happens to get Goburin Sureiya levels of mainstream exposure you can get away with most things I believe. Although there is still a limit there somewhere. For instance if Usagi Drop were fully adapted. That'd get some folks' blood boiling.

Probably Berserk honestly with the way people lost their shit about Goblin Slayer. Twitter would be lit on fire if the original Berserk aired today.

To be frank, almost anything, considering today people get worked up over shows for characters that have breasts that are too big.

If the outrage mob isn't upset about an anime, it's only because they don't know of it to be upset about.

The O.G. Dragon Ball lol, oh man the Twitter people would go crazy, you know what they'd go crazy over any 70's and 80's anime lol because they had a lot of racist jokes and sexist jokes as well lol

Remember when they got mad over that one black character in One Punch Man? Imagine their reaction over how they drew black characters back then in the 80's it'll be halarious!

Definitely Grand Blue.
They even put a warning before every episode that reminds the viewers that underaged drinking is illegal.
That’s the main thing, the humor based on drinking.

Love Lab not for the show in general, but I think western audiences would try to "cancel" it today because of one blackface scene.

Exactly why I think anime started getting more popular in the recent years. People are getting fed up with the forced PC culture you see in Western shows/movies nowadays.

i get the impression that it's a loot harder to cancel anime with some of the 'western' twitter values, partly because, you know, japan

People were more mad at how shit Berserk 2016 looked rather than the graphic content of the show itself XD.

Yes/no
Although i agree, as that's kinda why I like anime for the "alien" viewpoints, its increasing popularity is the reason why you see a backlash towards established anime tropes.
Certain people that are drawn in by "mainstream" anime feel that all forms of art should conform to their sensibilities. Some might even feel betrayed/angered by the fact something they love could at the same time be the opposite of their ideals.
That being said, some people love to complain

Ranma 1/2, no doubt. Western audiences wouldn´t shut up about transgender issues, abusive relationships and empowered women. This also could apply to Urusei Yatsura (there´s Ryunosuke to bring the trans talk) While I agree Ataru is a shitty boyfriend and a major pervert, I´m sure Twitter would try to make it even worse.

I've read Dengeki Daisy recently, and I've thought that if it was adapted nowadays, it would probably get some backlash considering the age gap between the main couple. Sure, it's not even that big, but I've seen plenty of people saying that you shouldn't ship 15-year-old with a 17-year-old, or that sexualising 17-year-old anime character makes you a pedo, so I wouldn't be surprised if they would go after Dengeki Daisy.
ChroNoiR Episode.0 is the best anime to ever exist

I notice you predicted viewers would complain about fake problems, instead of the real problem that Rumiko Takahashi is homophobic.
I expect a similar reception from They Were 11. A modern version would probably emphasize "diversity" at the expense of the original feminist message. Because whining audiences don't think critically.

I can't imagine how much shit School Days would get if it was released today. Not that it didn't get any shit in 2006, but it could've been a lot worse.

I can't think of anything that fits in with this category. Maybe Yosuga no Sora's last arc, where it actually did touched into incest. We Without Wings courtesy of a fanservice FROM A FUCKING LOLI (spoilers), and Pupa just like in 2014 will be flamed for its atrociousness.

I haven't watched the show yet, but I have seen clips of it on YouTube that had rather inappropriate jokes. Especially the rabbit scene would have created a lot of controversy nowadays.

They really don't say anything worse than what is said on South Park, though?

And South Park is still on the air today.

Most shows mentioned here wouldn't cause outrage, my guess it's that they get feed the same propaganda over and over by Youtube grifters and think stuff like people getting mad at Uzaki's character design was a "big" shitstorm, when I've seen more people mentioning this supposed shitstorm than the actual shitstorm.

The biggest "controversy" in recent years was probably Franxx because of some perceived "NTR" behaviors and a girl choosing one guy over another. This whole forum erupted and a lot of "whore" accusations were throw around.

"Najica Blitz Tactics" for the overt sexual harassment (though some might also note the comically ridiculous amount of gratuitous panty shots).

As for "Ranma 1/2" and changing gender, that's been done more recently in shows like "Kampfer" (2009) and "Gonna Be the Twin-tail!" (2014).
