Ooh the legendary Fairy Soldier.

Looks like we're getting characters in this show with real firepower. I guess they tried to play out the episode to make it more emotional. I didn't feel much of it tbh though. It seems they're trying to build more into the main story this episode as well.

So with the killing of Ozz by Beevee Liscar, Dorothea is dealt a massive mission failure due to the high-profile case.

And what truly is Marlya's "cursed child" state ever since her existence? That point we had in mind ever since the beginning. Her backstory lays the foundation for this episode.

Hometown burned down by Ray Dawn, the mayor of Kal-o, she has lived in solace, ready to exact her revenge one day.

But before that, a visit back to her "family": One of the big 3 mafia groups. And Free and Co. (the rest of the team) happen to barge in at a wrong time. The speech by Free doesn't sound convincing, but at least it gave Marlya the choice to face her reality.

A dumb-down slow episode that expands upon Marlya's character, and to good use, even if her circumstances are dire.

The post credits paint a dire picture: Arcame, with the help of illegal mercenaries, attempt to start a war again. How will this play out?

So we see more of Marlya's past.

She even has some connections with the mafia.

The cost of this mission sure was high. But more than anything for Free and Marlya this hurts even harder for despite their best efforts they were unable to protect their friend. More than anything this op showed just how large of a role that the agency has in keeping the peace as well as the type of forces that they have to fight to maintain it. Despite the mood right now its nice that Maryla was able to visit her second home again. Though seeing the one that destroyed her first home can't have been pleasant. The reunion though at least provided some much needed positivity for her though. A calm ep but one that focused on showing the after effects of their comrades death and showing how Marlya and Free's attempt to deal with both their grief and find the determination to find the truth and avenge their friend. Funny enough the meeting with Free actually reminded me of a marriage meeting. Im glad that the visit to her hometown was able to reignite the flame that was inside her. Looks like the enemy's plan finally reveals itself next ep.

Another week...another insert song. Yeah might as well consider Fairy Gone the new album from Know Name at this point. Anyways, interesting to see some more expansion on Marlya's background. I was expecting the atmosphere of grief to be carried for a few episodes, but given how Ozz was not exactly a central character or anything...I can see why she accepted it so quickly. At this point, it feels like there's a massive plot to just start another war in Unified Zesskia. The Dukes are essentially trying to make plays for power. I guess they won't have Marlya confront Ray Dawn over the past at this point.
Don't believe the hype.

Compared to last week, this episode felt a lot calmer, but it still had the feeling of sadness and frustration to it after Dorothea's heavy defeat against the crazy colonel.

For Marlya, she blames all of this on herself as being the cursed child. Her comrades did her best to give her some space and comfort her over the loss of Ozz, but being able to visit her second home and visiting Jingle during her free time must've given her some extra comfort.

It also led to the scene where the rest of the Dorothea group join Marlya and had a tense discussion with Jingle, who didn't hold back his criticism of the group's lack of determination and nerves of steel.

Thankfully, Free was able to turn things around with his speech that helped Marlya enough for her to smile again and move on from the recent loss.

While that was happening, things are heating up with the mass group of spider-like vehicles each carrying fairy soldiers, all ready for war. I'm expecting a lot of action next time and by the looks of the preview, that war-hungry colonel appears again. Hopefully someone will take him down this time.

Which made no sense what-so-ever. Nothing they did or said that scene had a clear meaning. Sure, he was entrusting his "daughter" to this guy and his friends. But it was done so dramatically the whole scene just could not properly contain all the drama, being just awkward or cringe, even.

Honestly, it felt more out of place than anything, since the scene itself didn't really have a clear meaning. That alone makes it frustrating at times. =/

Yes, forgot to add that this is exactly why this series fails to shine - it just does not have a clear, mature art feel about it. It uses interesting concepts and characters, but fails at directing them or setting scenes to be spectacular. And instead has overly dramatic dialogues about... literally nothing.

As much as I hate this , this was probably one of the few anime were the protagonist weren't able to measure up to them antagonist...............

Ok, so it seems that this Duke Kal O used to Rey Dawn, and I'm thinking that Wolfran, Veronica want's some payback for what he did, and so did Marlya.....

Do think it's possible that Marlya would turn her back on Dorothea to get back at Rey Dawn, if the situation becomes worse for her analogy ?????

No, the arch-types are clear for all the characters. Just like many other characters from other series, Ray Dawn will turn out to be a good person who had to do questionable thing for good future, and become a tragic hero. In him Marlya might see resemblence to Victor.

Yay, another episode full of infodumps because 8 of them were not enough. How many times are they going to repeat that 'it's been 10 years since unification war', I believe we all got it from episode 1...

And again Free infodumps things Marlya should already know. If it only happened once or twice it'd be fine but it's been like 5 times that happens... Also, "Ray Dawn destroyed my hometown" for the 10th time.

Hey, at least they managed to develop one of the dozen plot points -although it made no sense whatsoever-.

"Doubting everything that you take on... That is very important. Open your own eyes, clear out your ears, and look and listen to the world... And think using your own brain. After you've doubted everything, there is a possibility of something real to believe in. To believe in something, doubt everything."

It's amazing how well this action-less episode works compared to the Artificial Fairy Malfunction arc episodes. The main point was for Marlya to get over herself being cursed and to give exposition for the new Biaklay family, and it does that fairly well--I like how rather than booze or weed being the banned resources the families stockpile, it's knowledge in the Black Fairy Tome. It also was meant to build up the rebellion, which will start in the next two episodes; the letter delivered to the emperor will probably request his surrender. A lot of people seem to think the scene with Marlya getting over her supposed curse was overly dramatic, but I thought it worked really well(aside from one of the characters' eyes being closed due to an animation error, probably miscommunication between storyboarders and animators). What I don't get, though, is how in this show, opponents score decisive victories, cackle and smirk, then just disappear offscreen...i guess it's assumed that they've accomplished their goals and had no reason to remain? Also, if the Artificial Fairy Malfunction arc was directed better, Ozz could've become more endearing before he was killed. That truly was the weakest part of the entire series so far. It's also unclear who the random grunts like the one that was spying on Beevee are aligned to.

What I'm wondering, though, is, why has Free, the supposed second main character of the show, has received no development at all since episode freaking 2? It's been all about Marlya and her arc, which I actually find interesting, especially how it contrasts to Veronica. Jingle branded him as a coward, but...that's not true, not in the slightest, not as we've seen so far; he's a badass that jumps straight into the heart of every situation. ugh it's a shame this show's quality isn't nearly as good as it was for the first five episodes, but I haven't lost hope in it yet. They still have another 14 episodes...right? Hopefully we'll get more action, not just because I like the show's action direction, but because that seems to be where the show's writing actually works. If every single episode up to this point was about action, the overall quality of the show would be much higher, but I have to move my rating from a 10 to an 8 solely because of the episodes following 5 that aren't nearly as good.

Did someone pay attention to the weapon names? Afaik Nein Aular mentioned they lost 1 weapon while they were transporting 1 and Free was supposed to have another 1.

Did they lose Free's weapon and the one gifted tot he Duke got delivered regularly? (At least he seemed to have trained with it at some point in the episode.) Or did they lose the one from the Duke (and the mercs handed to him secretly so others might think he does not have a weapon)? (Edit: I compared the names from previous episode and the one mentioned as stolen in this episode: It was the one given to the Duke.)

Since the enemy guys if I remember correctly they talked about Nein (who is supposed to have another of those weapons) not being with the escort I guess they took Free's weapon and now want to attack the city to get Nein's weapon. Or they just wan to attack for war (and use the weapons they got and think they are enough).

Also wondering what's in the letter: A declaration of war (which is supposed to arrive late to mock them while still being a bit formal) - or does he want to warn (which would seem weird cause previously he worked together with the other Duke).

Mafia guy was nice to see.

Liked the episode better than the previous ones. Nice calm/depressing atmosphere at the start and more background.

Dull overall slow boring and depressing

Klara is the best part in this episode, she is very kind and tries to comfort Marlya. My wonderful glorious Goddess cares a whole lot about her lover!! And show it!! Even if times may seem dark! Its comforting to see that Marlya doesn't need to face it alone!!

And the right way and only way to cure a female depression is by engaging in lesbian kissing therapy!!! Klara can help Marlya with that!!!!Yes,,,,,

But i hardly payed any attention at all to this episode ,Anime be gay again , now you are just a boring idiot!!,,,,,,Yuri element where interesting but something more needs to happen ,,,, You had 9/10 For falling to entertained me for two episode in a row,,you now have 7/10 Better yourself to next week!!!

Marlya Honey you need to be more like Klara , She is a way better waifu then you,,,You have been kind of disappointing lately,She is perfect look at her and copy her behaviour you should be more like her,,,,Without my main lesbian waifu this anime would have got a lower score,,,This was your greatest moment your hand between her legs/ass,, judge freely ,, Go back to that please that was fun!!!

If only we knew more about Ozz so we could truly feel this loss. But I hope his death means that the stakes are real here, and I do feel bad that he couldn't even be buried without having, well, his illegal parts removed first. And it's nice to know from where the knowledge in the Black Tomes comes from, even if not even the characters seem to understand it very well. And it was also nice, if a bit cheesy, to see Free telling Mariya's adoptive grandfather that he would protect her, even if it costs him his own life.

These last two episodes have been pretty solid surprisingly.

Honestly if they instead took out the Fairy nonsense and made this an anime purely on the mafia against unification, this show would probably be so much better. The whole Fairy plotline hasn't gone anywhere and just seems to be in the background waiting to figure itself out.

The music is great, and had they had more time to focus on the characters instead of explaining all of the fairy stuff that still doesn't really have any point to it, the show overall could've been really good.

It's pretty sad seeing the potential this show had, much like GlassLip. That being said, it for sure has time to try and fix itself in these last two episodes to the point where I won't mind giving season 2 a try.

amazing development. I don't get it why most people here rated this show too low, but I guess literature-based people are purely highly meticulous over a simple lore. Although, I do skipped some parts like Marlya's past, once or twice shown had already made me understood her background, so when they have the flashback again I just felt its not necessary and I skipped it. Anyway, the show is quite good,. still 7/10 from me - this coming from someone that have a busy life career and rarely watch series/shows. I would understand if people that watched too many dramas/shows would rate this low because of their standard expectation built from the previous shows that they watched.

For starters, you can try reading other inputs and thoughts on the episode. It might give you a hint why this series, IF ANYTHING ACCORDING TO THE USERS here, pales in comparison to finely crafted works of art. If anything, this series feels like something an enthusiast would do - shove in so many traits and tropes, yet be unable to refine them and intertwine them into an enticing, coherent story.

Whose brilliant idea was it to get rid of the best part of these episodes, the OP? For a police department, the investigative team seems to be quite lackluster. You're telling me not a single person had the thought "The guy who was supposed to get a legendary Fairy weapon doesn't seem too sad his got stolen. Maybe we should investigate." At least I can understand where Maryla and Free's grief is coming from. What are they going to do with the corpse? Extract the Fairy organs? Some spy that was, getting caught that easily. It was admittedly pretty cute seeing Maryla's "Grandpa" getting so excited to see her. The preview makes the next episode look sort of interesting: Consider my interest piqued.

Ozz’s body was moved. Nein sent a group to Tubal City to investigate Ray Dawn’s fairy weapon. Hybranz received the fairy weapon stolen by Liscar. In Tubal, Marlya visited the leader of Biaklay’s mafia group, Jingle, with the intentions of leaving Dorothea, but Free intervened and convinced her to help them. Ray Dawn overtook Free’s group before leaving Tubal and gave them a letter for the prime minister. An observer saw a group of artificial fairies transportation moving.

The episode was normal and was all about character development, the interesting thing is what is about to come.

The problem is, when keeping things overly simplified you risk making them appear rather... nonsensical. And that is what we will not condone.

Well, again, people who are not that experienced in Japanese art (or art in general, maybe) might see no faults with either directing or execution of particular scenes in this series. But others do notice it, which is why the score is rather low, compared to more thoroughly made, ingeniously directed series out there.

I'm really trying to like this show but... am I the only one who thinks it does goes nowhere sometimes? And some of the dialogues are like really REALLY pointless.
I do think they got the right atmosphere/setting. Even if there was no lore at all I would buy the concept just for how it looks. BUT, I just don't see characters to have a clear reason for anything. The storytelling is also kinda confusing, but not in a thought-provoking way, more like the focus isn't where it should be.

Edit:
What am I asking is: what do people who like this series enjoy about it? I need to hear some positive opinions about the show.

This show truly excels with the first five episodes. The action directing is great, the soundtrack punctuates the action, and the action scenes further the plot in a meaningful way while giving exposition about the unique world. The concept of fairies is explored more and more with each episode, the biology of them, their purpose, and their affect on their hosts. Flashbacks are shown before the intro to give backstory to the main characters without breaking up the pacing too much.

Then the show grinds to a halt starting with the Artificial Fairy Malfunction arc. We're introduced to a dozen new characters that are too briefly established to be interesting, and the arc as a whole completely forgot about the two main characters, Free and Marlya, to the point where Marlya even brought it up in episode 9. The show has showed steady signs of improvement since then, especially during the action segments, and I'm hoping that now WWII is starting, we're going to see the same quality as we did in the first arc. Shame we'll have to wait til fall to see it, though.

You sounded sarcastic, boy. I can very well defined myself as "that" experienced, but in this case, I am the person that chose to "allow" and "accept" it as it is. No hard feelings but sometimes people are overly dramatic and needlessly meticulous over a simple thing like this.

You sounded sarcastic, boy. I can very well defined myself as "that" experienced, but in this case, I am the person that chose to "allow" and "accept" it as it is. No hard feelings but sometimes people are overly dramatic and needlessly meticulous over a simple thing like this.

Yeah, like they were during the whole meeting with old papa Maccaroni or what was the mafia boss name. Exactly - overly dramatic and ... just needlessly so!

Also, if the Artificial Fairy Malfunction arc was directed better, Ozz could've become more endearing before he was killed.

Pretty much, I honestly didn't feel anything for Ozz's death, and now seeing how much it has impacted Marlya emotionally, I feel like I missed out on a pivotal development point for her character.

Another fine point, I was expecting more between Free and Wolfran by now. Very lackluster imo. Too much info dump, not enough significant plot progression

Thanks for sharing. I really needed another perspective. I agree with some of your points so maybe I this is just not my kind of show.

fair enough, I knew this would be a niche show from the moment I saw the first episode. It has a lot of great ideas, just fails on the execution after a bit.

Marlya's adoptive grandfather, the mafia boss, Biaklay, seems like a great person to me.

Ray! A war is approaching.

yknow the more i think of it the more i realize how dumb it is that there's a third mafia introduced out of nowhere this episode
Wouldn't it have made more sense for Marlya to go back to Gui Carlin? Why would she leave a super nice mafia? And if she's a cursed child, why did nothing bad happen to them? Also, what kind of a dumb motto is "we don't do any crimes?" man I loved this show so much but i'm so sick of trying to defend its flaws in the second half of this season

I don't care what anybody says. That was an awesome episode. The sound direction was amazing. Liscar is a fucking badass, that whole walk through a warzone whistling to the music thing was absolute top. Can't wait for the next episode.

For a cursed child, Marlya sure is lucky to have all those people caring for her, from Jurgen the hunter, to Jingle the maffia boss to her new comrades at Dorothea
