| Well I think the main problem here is that MAL didn't exist in 1990 , so those ratings don't do justice to average series like those as new fans tend to underrate old series because of the animation/art style , maybe a better take would be to compare the best rated series from the each decade (90s and 10s) so that you can see a bit fairer comparison. |

| Just a tip,if you want to make a better comparison then include OVA's too. In terms of quantity 2017 is far superior,at least regarding the TV shows. And tbh,most TV stuff from 1990 looks mediocre at best. |

But there's also the fact that 1990 was a pretty weak year (a bit less if you consider some that started airing the prior year and still were airing). 1990-1994 is considered a dark period in anime for a reason, production decreased, and the overall morale was bad due to the collapse of the Japanese asset price bubble. |

| Nobody can prove that old anime is better or worse becuse thats subjective. And ofc the older shows have lower scores becuse compared to today's shows most look rather ugly so they often automatically get a lower rating. And newer anime has a huge advantage in quantity so the chance that one of these shows becomes popular and gets a high rating is much higher. |

| Old anime have fewer voters and they have lower rating systems so their scores are technically higher than modern ones. Not that it means anything since quality of anime is subjective. All modern anime are CGI while old anime were hand animated so that's something old anime have going for them. |

| old scores will always be inaccurate since the anime watchers that watched those shows during those airing times have no way to show their 10/10 ratings unless they are like 30-40+ and this age group, while it does exist, represent a small percentage. also you messed up using mal scores. old anime has an unspoken rule of /9 instead of /10 to at least try to combat this. Robin Hood no Daibouken 7.22 for example would be 7.22/9 which gives it a score of 8.02. still inaccurate and probably just a meme in clubs but not much else we can do |

| Someone can prove old anime is better than new anime as much as he can also prove than blue is a better color than red. Also, comparing the overall scores as a way to attempt to do this is pretty inaccurate, because the audience that rates old shows (pre-2000) is very different to the one that rates the new ones (post-2000, especially post-2005); older people tend to not be so generous with the scores they give and make full use of the 10 point scale rather than only using 7+ as opposed to younger people, who mostly only watch post-2005 stuff. |

| I mean I'm not going to say which is better because I personally prefer modern series. But scores are not a good measure. Especially since you're just using two arbitrary years for comparison and someone could easily argue that since some of those seasons from 1990 have shows that were never fully translated or were only translated recently it's barely a fair comparison. |
