Oricon Biz conducted an inquiry about this year's anime titles with high expectations among the people in the anime industry. Questionnaires were collected from people working for anime magazines, music labels, TV companies, and anime journalism.

Top: The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya
The movie draws attentions of the editors of the anime magazines and the anime article writers. Oricon asserted its assured success.

Second: Durarara!!
This title is uncommon as a light novel-based anime that it mainly targets at female audience. The manga adaptation serialized in Monthly G Fantasy will bring more fans.

Third: So・Ra・No・Wo・To
The anime industry people who voted for this title wish its success rather than foresee it. Anime producers long for a great hit of an original work.

Shaft titles also collected good number of votes reflecting the enormous hit of Bakemonogatari.

Other noteworthy titles:
Bakuman
Katanagatari
Arakawa Under the Bridge
Angel Beats!
Dance in the Vampire Bund
Hetalia Axis Powers the Movie

Isn't that a mistranslation? How do you highly expect an anime?

I don't think Sora no woto is gonna be that good -__-;
I do have high hopes for Durarara and most of the others. Don't care about Haruhi, I'm still mad with the last season >_>

Is there any other idea of translating "期待されている"? I know it can be taken wrongly, but I have no other idea.

Black★Rock Shooter, Unlimited Blade Works, and the upcoming Trigun movie, perhaps maybe? I think those would be noteworthy, but that's just me. ┐(-。ー;)┌
Otherwise, I'd agree with all of those, with the exception of Sora no Woto... That just looks like it's here to disappoint, but it's far too early to tell.

Looking in the dictionary... "期待" can mean "to anticipate" as well as "to expect" or "to hope." In this case, the English usage would be highly anticipated, like one would an upcoming new movie or tv show.

Edit --I'm most looking forward to Bakuman atm. :)

If people stopped thinking Sora no Woto is going to be K-ON!, they'd like it a lot more. Because it's not about fuwa fuwa time at all. It's dark, moody and atmospheric. Just because the girls are cute doesn't make this anime just another "moe" title.

Nope, apparently cute character designs, a group of female characters, and instruments equals auto-fail. Doesn't matter if the anime has amazing backgrounds that put K-ON! to shame, a military setting compared to a school setting, and the opportunity to actually have a plot.

So・Ra・No・Wo・To wasn't that bad.

Angel Beats! - the two main characters reminds me of Haruhi and Yuki? But I can't wait to watch it! :)

Black Rock Shooter!!!!!! :)

How come Black Rock Shooter wasn't there?

I personally think that Sora no Woto has a very Haibane Renmei-like quality to it. I haven't seen anything K-ON!-like other than the fact that the characters look the same. The complaints that it's "boring" is hilarious-- when did any of the advertisers or creators say this was a slice of life comedy? None of them did! It is marketed as a military and music anime. I said it before, nobody would be watching it and complaining about it if it didn't look like K-ON!, by far the easiest to troll title of 2008 outside of Haruhi 2 and Kampfer.

Oh well, let the ignorant be ignorant, you can hardly fault people for being blind.

Sora no Woto is looking to be the most interesting thing up there despite the average character designs.

Also, did everyone suddenly forget about Despera or something...?

Stop that female audience shit. Shit is freaking manly. Written by the same author as Baccano! ...just stop that.

Haruhi OH YEAH 2 1/2 hrs of KYON KUN AND HIS DENWA (also better be some damn Tsuruya-san too!)

Bakuman should be really good too.

Well personally I never expected it to be a slice of life comedy. And even if its not a comedy it doesn't mean it has to be boring :/ & the first episode WAS boring... there are quite a few people that think so & I'm sure there are some who thought it was fantastic... either way everyone has their own opinion.
Still gonna watch the whole thing, since I don't like dropping anime, but the first episode was still boring for me, I do have hopes that the rest of this series will be good. (and live up to the Hype its expected to create)

Sora No Woto; from what I've seen, there is much 'possibility' that it will turn out to be moeblob. I hope not... At least, an atmosphere is tons better than K-on. However... I really hate that art style; I always see art as the first priority when I watch anime. If Background art wasn't that brilliant, I would've probably dropped this series at one shot.

Durarara is the best among there. My expectation is just so high, but I know it will never disappoint me. It is obvious that it will be awesome series.

That list is pretty much expected except 'Arakawa Under the Bridge'. From what I've seen, it is complete mystery how it will turn out. I guess it is studio hype again, but who cares, if SHAFT does it, I know it will be good. Better than endless eight anyways.

Angel Beats. Yes. I would LOVE to watch it.

They still haven't finished airing the OVA yet so I'm expecting they won't release the 3rd season at least until Fall '10.

I have high hopes and expectations for SoraWoto to deviate from turning into a moeblob show. The trailer showed plenty of promise. If it doesn't... well that would be quite the disappointment. Honestly, I think the show would've still been great if it didn't have the moe character designs but seeing as how otaku are in Japan, they probably won't watch anything without at least one moe character to satisfy their lust.

as for shana. i think that they wont be doing any third season until s is finished so i have no idea when we'll get another season.

and its a piss off but shaft is taking there sweet time with the other episodes of bakemonogatari because they are tidying up the blueray releases. but i have heard that they plan on animating kizumonogatari

I'm glad that people are noticing Durarara!, I hope that means more Baccano! as well (Yes, I know that the novels sell, but I still want my second season!).

As for Haruhi, Hell yes, I love it and the trailer just got me hyped up to watch the movie, even if there's too much Yuki and I hate Yuki. But the Haruhi (and Koizumi!) scenes make up for that.

Despera could be good but it's destined to be a commercial failure. That's the most likely reason why people from the industry didn't mention it. Also, no definite date for its release was stated, maybe it won't even air in 2010.

Hetalia movie? Now that's random.

It's interesting to see that Sora no Woto was voted more on wishiful thinking than actual genuine quality. They're not really voting for Sora no Woto, they are voting for that Anime no Chikara timeslot and hoping these original projects take off.

Anime producers are sick of having angry fans telling them to adapt manga word for word and want to make their own stuff? That's what it's is telling me
