This episode reminded me off that one episode of Card Captor Sakura when the Silent Card possessed the painting.

Fun episode, I hope the next one has something to do with gramps asking Ushio about the spear haha

This show is so enjoyable. It doesn't try anything fancy, has a simple story, but has great energy and likeable characters. Looking forward to it every week until the end of the year.

Tora is just rusty. Imagine a monster trapped in a limited environment for more than five centuries. Also the spear restricted his movements

The only thing I wasn't too happy about was he control over the spear, wish we saw some training or something as right now it looks like he can master it. just seemed rushed IMO.

So does that mean that Reiko and the dude will be able to see Tora from now on or was that just due to the demon dad being around??

I think it was said somewhere in ep 1 that whoever who hold the spear will be possessed by the spirit within it (the previous holder) or something like that which explains his long hair and mastery over the spear. I guess he just didn't know that he could control the spear like that in the previous episode.

I think they'll be able to see Tora and become recurring characters in the series since they took the time to introduce them to us when they should've been cutting stuff from 300+ chapters into 39 episodes.

it depends, the author is one of the guys with Mappa with the adaptation, i read that they will remove most of the filler chapters since it's 300+ chapters that will be put on 36 episodes, if my guess is correct they need to introduce 3 more characters vital to the main plotline, 1 of them is on the next episode

[spoiler] 1st is mayuko and the 3rd one is the most important [spoiler] is ushio's mother

This will be 39 episodes total. 26 episodes in Summer and Fall with 13 more in Spring.

3 more characters? Isn't Mayuko the one with Asako or there's another character named Mayuko in the series? And do I see Sakamoto Maaya's name attached to Ushio's mother? +1 xD

I knew she will be relevant from the ED. Just asking since you said they need to introduce 3 more important characters then proceed with 1st being Mayuko and 3rd being Ushio's mother when Mayuko was already introduced in ep 1.

[spoiler] it's about mayuko's bloodline that is connected with usio's mother, that person will be showed at the very beginning of the episode if they will follow the manga. the arcs will start when the 3rd person is mentioned

This episode was miles better than the previous, the last two were just his harem getting captured and Ushio coming to the rescue. This had a much more involved story and much better characters introduced.

Tora is still being a tsundere though, "I only helped you so I could eat you! Baaa-ka!"

Two girls = harem now? Even if they are all childhood friends, I think that's an overexaggeration.

[spoiler] actually yes, it has harem element and it also has an arc dedicated to it but that same arc will desolve that harem immediately, there are 4 girls involved and i'm sure it will not be remove because that arc is very relevant

I'm starting to get annoyed by the people who are saying this feels directionless or that it follows the 'monster of the week' pattern and all those other things. Between this episode and the previous one, a lot has been explored regarding the setting of the world, the beast spear and demons as a whole. It only got better so far.

Really contemplating adding Tora to my favorite characters list!

A part of me wishes he'd killed Reiko. It'd take the story to a surprising new place but, hell, I like the mood this is building up and I wouldn't change it.

I definitely didn't think I'd enjoy this show so much. It reminds me of Kekkaishi a little, but with less direction. I think the energy of the show is what keeps me going. It's not something you find often these days--something that actually seems to have effort put into it.

I also find that a lot of anime these days are self-unaware, and therefore don't know what they can and cannot do. Ushio no Tora seems very focused so far, and I don't think it'll try to do every fucking cliche subplot under the moon just to appeal to the masses. I appreciate that.

I wouldn't go as far as calling them much better characters but yes the whole story of this episode was more intriguing and the personal drama of the situation also contributed to that.

Episode that offers few emotions from the point of view of the story, the narrative remains in the canons of classic shonen; action quite good, despite not showing anything extraordinary. Perhaps the thing I was most happy with this episode, are the few explanations that make it comprehensible in some respects. Drawings, animations and soundtrack are still the best part of the whole show. I hope will come soon something more substantial.

A good episode, but starting to get a bit rushed compared to the manga.

I hope they don't try to resolve every single arc in one episode going forward:

1) that's why people are saying "monsters of the week" when it really isn't

2) some arcs are much, much longer comparing the the first three.

I really don't see how they can do the series justice in just 39 episodes, and this episode starts to show the rush.

This has been my favorite episode so far, I found the monster of the week to be the most compelling and there was a real human story at the center of it. It wasn't terribly complex but there were some dark psychological underpinnings, like that Reiko is so haunted by her father's premature death that she can't allow herself to be happy with the young men who pursue her.

I'm glad her Dad got restored in ghost form there at the end, I think him having just become a monster and has to be vanquished would have been too sad and not fit the tone of the show. Also I can't be the only one who gasped when it looked like Ushio stabbed Reiko.

I loved Tora wanting Ushio to beg and Ushio denying even that to him. Stubborn little guy. I also laughed at his Dad's reaction to the open basement. I feel like in a more self serious show the Dad would freak out and immediately confront Ushio. But nah here he just has a stroke. I'm curious if Reiko and that dude fully understand Ushio and Tora. Will they magically forget it in a few episodes? Will it become a plot point? We Shall see.

I couldn't stop laughing at the beginning parts with Ushio's dad LMFAOOOOO poor guy had a heart attack and a stroke at the same time xDDDD

The rest of the episode was pretty great and I really liked finding out about Reiko's issues and past with her father... The entire situation and the way the characters all interacted with one another was done really well and I commend Mappa for a job well done

Action was top notch as usual and we get more funny moments between Ushio and Tora too....The 90's feel from this anime was at its strongest I this episode imo and a few times I got some Yu Yu Hakusho vibes even which I LOVED

Given Yusuke's later Youkai form, it's obvious Togashi (and many others) took a lot of influence from this series. I also get some Tenchi Muyo vibes as well.

And I know Inoue was blatantly ripped off in Bleach too.

This was the first 'new' episode for me, as, I'd only seen the first OVA before this. Really great. Can't wait to see more of Reiko, who will obviously become a recurring and important character later on.

But... did they see Tora at the end, her and Ken, or was he invisible still? Hard to tell, haha. Maybe it'll be mentioned later.

Well Tora has been locked up for what 400-500 years without getting much energy back so he's probably in a very weakened state.

Don't forget, Tora has eaten many burgers before his fight with Hyou. Could be another reason, or just the biggest... Beast Spear.
The spear is legendary for a reason.

I mean Tora could have killed ushio like a million times while sitting on top of him. How the events in the show develop make no sense, but it's still entertaining.

For me its kind of turn off your brain show and just enjoy the ride (Or most parts of the ride)

God, don't insult this show by saying that. Think of it as a character thing. Tora's "wittling" down the rock by "haunting" him, goading him continuously. Look what happens every time he tries to attack, the spear intervenes and he loses. He can't just senselessly attack.

A good hunter doesn't attack nonstop 24/7, they bide their time.

Or... ahem... characterization that maaaaaybe Tora isn't as bad as he seems and it's mostly just bluffing.

This "turn off your brain" excuse pisses me off. Especially when people apply to shows that already have internal and character logic.
