So what happened to Yuji? Did the silver corrupt his mind or did Yuji willingly allow the silver to consume him?

I think this was to be expected since they skipped several amounts of events there but there's some hints in the conversations he has with the spirit that inhabits Reiji Maigo. Basically, Yuuji was despairing over Shana's unavoidable fate as a tool of Guze forced to fight eternally at the bid of the lords. So he asked him over and over if there really was nothing to be done. This conversation should be key in understanding Yuuji's motives.

BTW, to people actually wondering or going all "he never chose". He did choose. Think about it carefully here. He went to see Shana before he disappeared, he didn't see Yoshida. Yoshida clearly says that she expected him to choose Shana when all of a sudden Shana runs toward her, still confused over Yuuji's sudden vanishment, so obviously Yuuji never went to Yoshida.

Omg, is that Aizen's voice actor?!!!

Btw did Yuji change his hairstyle, or did the Silver originally looked like that?

Sure, the first episode suffered from J.C. Staff syndrome but I found it hilarious that you would constant re-post to emphasize how this series is shit in order to make people who actually liked it look like idiots. There is a limit on self-conceited one can be <_<
....And I didn't even like the first episode and thought it was terrible.

I spelled 3 words to tell my opinion. Good job, you aren't making fans look like idiots at all.

I liked the first season. I would like to like the others as well but it's impossible cause of the story, pacing and so on. I can't possibly know if this 3rd is shit like 2nd was unless I watch it. If something is shit then I say it is and rate it with score it deserves unlike you fanboys. Speaking of mental disorder, no-one who rates anime can't give a 10 to 2nd season cause of the pacing alone. I was hoping this to be good but based to first episode this exactly the opposite, and I'm really commenting the first episode. You can be as much fanboy as you like. However, I admit the sad fact that these character aren't in good enough anime, they deserve to be in better.
I definitely have superpowers. I can feel it in my balls.

Finally Yuuji gain some power but he's like an enemy now so I guess that wasn't too exciting. I was hoping him and Shana fall in lovey dovey and fought the antagonists together. BAKA-Yuuji why do you have to leave Shana.

I didn't dislike the episode, I just don't know yet what to make of it. To me, none of the characters were 'out of character'; sure it was a little slow in places but we're in the middle of an established story with a significant plot turn and it spent its time exploring their reactions (assuming the dub'd version I watched was reasonably close to the intended story). It just left me with this feeling that I was missing something is my problem. I'm waiting to see how this pans out.

My only real concern now is that Yuji becomes an ineffective 'bad guy' (as opposed to 'evil guy' - I don't think that is where this is going). If he has become possessed, well, I guess we've had clues about that since season one, though it's a slightly boring plot development I think. If he's lost his marbles, I find that the more interesting alternative, and it fits in with how I've come to see Yuji - I've always had this feeling he was not quite in sync with the majority of the world around him (and he is, technically, dead since the very start of the story, anyway, don't forget. I'm sure that would make me at least a little twitchy). Regardless, he's got all this Kick Ass power, I want to see him USE it. (and the same goes for Shana! I really like her fire-wings)

...the fuck? I am very confused.

All I get is that Yuji disappeared but why? His torch can't be out.
And why is he at the top of the Bal Masque now? It's been ages since I've seen SE 1 and 2, but weren't they the enemies of the flame hazes- which makes Yuji an enemy of Shana?

I haven't got a clue.

I didn't think it was that bad, I quite liked it actually. But I haven't read the novels or anything, so I don't have that shrouding my judgement on the series.

I think this could turn out to be good.

Not the best start to a series, but my hopes are still high for this series. Watch as it won't start getting good until the VERY END, just like they did with Second.

I don't think it was terrible, but I think it could have been better. But then again, this is JC Staff here.

I think one possible interpretation is, there is this Thing inside Yuji that keeps him alive, but it's possibly sentient and has its own agenda, and Yuji may not be entirely in control of himself, and the Thing may be taking advantage of Yuji's angst over his relationship with Shana, and if Shana is just a *tool* for fighting the Crimson Denizens, then to free her of that fate he may need to do something drastic, and if pushed enough in the right direction (remember, he IS a teenager, after all, and one that has gone through quite a lot lately), then it would be easy to get him to do 'bad' things for what he considers the 'right' reasons. Also, he did seem somewhat attached to Hecate from their previous encounters, so there is that link there.

Now, Bal Masque wanted that Thing, but the last time they had him they didn't immediately just kill him and take it, but tried to use it, and so there is precedent for something like that occuring again, and it's possible that the Thing inside him is what they are following, not Yuji himself - he may just be the vessel.

Anyway, just thinking out loud, it's just one possible interpretation. The story right now seems to be being told from primarily Shana's viewpoint, and since she doesn't know much more than that Yuji disappeared but there is some evidence that he is still 'alive', it's reasonable from a story-telling point of view to hide those same details from the 'readers/viewers' also - makes for a more interesting story.

Did they time-skip a bunch of stuff, or is it supposed to be this hectic?

And what the hell is Outlaw? This is the first time it's been mentioned. And this giant fist of flame ability is also very random.

As far as evil Yuji is concerned, I'm confident that will be explained.

But I would prefer a Mami Kawada OP...

According to what I've read around they skipped some parts that would have made it less hectic (blame this on JC Staff's stupid original material in Season 2).

I very much hope this doesn't turn into something like To Aru Majutsu II but so far it seems to have been pretty good.

I also agree with someone who posted in this thread that this should have been the last episode for season 2, instead of deceiving us that it was all a happy ending.

I don't like the OP/ED that much though. =/

It seems there had been a time skip since the end of the second season. I don't know what to think upon realizing that II's end wasn't actually a happy one for the main characters. I would've been very surprised to see Yuji become Bal Masque's commander now, but I had spoiled myself a bit during the long gap between this and season 2's ending. orz

Anyway, I missed this show and its characters, looking forward to the next episode.

The moment at the last episode of SnS2 didn't come true, or at least the result was not what is was meant to be. But I think it's pretty clear that Yoshida makes no chance anymore for the girlfriend position.
I don't like Yuuji entering that tomogara, I don't hope that the tomogara and Yuuji's will are combined, because that would ruin everything. I also hope that he will eventually return to his old self, because this looks really stupid.
Also weird that they will introduce so many new characters in the last season, that's the impression I get from the opening animation. I don't think that's very positive, because it's confusing. Two long seasons with no new character introduced and then suddenly this.

But I'm very positive about the animation, it has really improved lots from the 2nd season. It's even better than the OVA because the backgrounds have lots more detail now.

Watching this first episode made me wonder how I made it through the first 2 seasons. It felt pretty slow and boring, except for the nice twist with Yuji. Looks like he and the Reiji Maigo finally came to a consensus. I think it's gonna take me awhile to catch up on this story.

Just started watching this. It's been years since I watched SnSII and I feel like I've forgotten a lot of stuff. The first episode wasn't as good as I expected, but none the less it was a surprise that Yuuji joined the enemy. Is the samurai look the real form if the Reijo Maigo or something? I hope good twists and battles will come out if it.

I hope this season will retain the first one's quality. The first season had a good balance of drama and action and the best enemies in the series. The second was a let down with the bland enemies and the focus on the characters' social life with little action in between. The fact that this show was being produced as the novel was coming to an end (according to what I last heard when III was announced) is a good sign.

Actually, I can't think of a better way to get rid of that obnoxious love triangle from season 2. Just disappear the guy, no more love triangle! Then bring him back as the enemy? In one move, they fixed everything that made season 2 sucky. So yeah, starting a season with a herp a derp twist *shock* is normally lame, but in this case it's awesome because they set up the rest of the season to be awesome and hopefully free of this obnoxious love geometry.

The events of last seasons final season obviously happened, they even repeated them, with Yoshida in tears, Shana smiling, Yuji disappearing.

As he actually visited Shana and smiled at her, while most likely not having visited Yoshida, it is clear who he chose. It was only a question of time anyways, you didn't really think he would chose someone else when the series is actually named after Shana?

She could be the most unlikeable bitch ever, and have absolutely no interest in him, or she could try to kill him like in the first season, he would still have chosen her. Give the main guy/girl a friend for each year they lived that is in love with them, they would still end up with the new guy/girl that came out of nowhere. If they actually get that far (most don't), they run away from the marriage to follow their "true" feelings.

Which is a bit sad, seeing that stuff like this limits the genre. It's too predictable, the main guy/girl always chooses the supernatural girl/boyfriend, despite this having no future at all usually, because of the later being way older, living forever, fighting in an eternal war, having to go back where s/he came from soon etc., when there is a perfectly viable alternative girl/boyfriend there, who the main guy/girl would have ended up with when the new supernatural girl/boyfriend wouldn't have appeared.

Just some examples, not all fit perfectly, but still quite obvious:

Shiro + Saber from Fate/Stay Night, with Rin being the normal girl having no chance at all, or Renton and Eureka from Eureka Seven. Given that there was no other girl in his live at that time, it's okay, but still, normal guy + supernatural girlfriend (and of course, the series was named after her, so there couldn't be any other way).

There is also Bleach, with Ichigo and Rukia, with Orihime most likely having no chance. In Code Geass, C.C. was the one who ended up with Lelouch on the cart carrying hay, with Shirley even dying. Same with Guilty Crown, Hare had to die, so Shu can end up with Inori. Or take Elfen Lied. Kouta + Lucy, with Yuka drawing the short end. Next up, Escaflowne. Here its the other way round. Not much is known whether Amano had any interest in Hitomo, if, bad luck, she met Van.

And so on.

Given that, it's part funny, part annoying how people hate(d?) Yoshida for "taking away Yuji" and stuff.

I just hope Yoshida and Ike become a couple, Ike deserves it, and Yoshida likes him, just not as boyfriend - yet.

I was not very clear in the last episode of the ova, so i have no idea what your taking bout. All they shown was yuji on a bridge. In in the last episodes of season 2, it still didn't say anything bout him dissapring from existence, just that he would leave misaki city behind. The whole thing bout him meeting Yoshida or shana at the end to me was mearly just a matter of choosing which one he wanted to be with.

OH and btw you should spoil tag that comment, your taking bout other shows that aren't even part of this discussion and rather big story points to those series that would be spoiled for anyone who has not seen them yet.
