This is fantastic, great episode.

It was both super fun and hilarious to watch Haiji just casually blackmail everyone with that smug look on his face. XD
Everyone is terrified of him and I can totally understand that, boy is that man scary. XD

Kakeru seems to be the only one with the power to put up a fight. xD

Soundtrack is fantastic, Yuki Hayashi showing his skills again.
The ED is the best I've heard this season.

Yeah I'm definitely liking this show so far, Production I.G and Sports anime are just a great combo

Anybody who refuses to give this show a chance because 'it seems gay' is truely missing out. From all the shows I checked out this season this one might be my favourite along with GioGio. Absolutely loving most of the characters so far and comedy scenes. Good thing it's 2-cour, I might have a chance of remembering their names.
What do you mean? What makes this anime "seem gay"? Just because it features basically exclusively male cast? I haven't really gotten a gay vibe from the characters yet. At least not the the extent of a Banana Fish or Yuri on Ice.

This show has tons of potential. Especially if they have one or two more character building episodes because so far they are building the large cast very well which at the moment is the driving force of the whole series. If they do that there will be plenty of time to grow attached to the characters and afterwards there will be plenty of space to add character development during the running. Since this is being handled by a extremely talented studio I have huge hopes for this series.

Haiji worst best boy or best worst boy? Delightfully evil. I'm loving this so far.

Maybe this pushing 50 blob should get out and start running again. :)

Very nice OST, I prefer the OP rather than the END. Haiji has a strong motivation, the faces he made when threatening Masa and Akane are awesome!

Haiji was really cunning, and manipulative in this episode, I loved it. lol I mean, normally I would dislike him for pushing his dreams on others, but I can see why he's desperate, with this being his last chance, and stuff. And though they were got by surprise, it's not like they are really against it, at least the majority of them isn't. Now I just want to know more about why Kurahara is so against running now, what happened on his past; and how Haiji got that scar.

I'm not sure what to say to Kakeru, he seems like a scum to me in targeting the weakness of the other dorm mates just to get want he wants...maybe there's an important good reason for all of this...

While I enjoyed the first two episodes this Anime is pretty much fujoshi-bait/fanservice. They showed us basically naked cute guys 6 (?) times in two episodes, always conveniently in a bath setting and the character designs of the two main characters are: a carbon copy of Kageyama and someone who is probably Oikawa (?) inspired. So this might also be a serious sports anime but let's not kid ourselves why someone would think this is "gay".

What I am surprised about is that some people negatively called out Haiji for his manipulation. It's clearly played for laughs and none of what he does seems meanspirited or out of line.

Not sure if this is relevant, they look more or less like standard realistic-leaning anime guys to me.

Fair episode. Solid.

Really liking this anime so far. Haiji trying to bribe and blackmail everyone to run with him was pretty funny. Seems Kakeru has a good reason for not wanting to run with others. Somehow I'm kinda salty that only one episode airs a week as I'm curious to see how it progresses.

This is my second anime that I'm very invested in after the Slime anime.

Haiji is one cool character and a bit manipulative, I kinda like him and the rest of the gang. I see in the preview they are going to start training.

I'm very sure this will prove to be better than last season's free! All the characters are interesting and the plot is developing great, the plot also seems to have substance.

I see it going down as one of the best anime of the season.

I thought about the joke of Masa being fast because of his skin color but it took me off guard that they actually said it xD That aside, I like his character, he seems to be too nice of a guy. Also, his reactions are pretty funny.

Good episode, very funny and it helped to know the cast better. Some of the interactions between them were nice to see as well. And also it seems the next episode, the training will begin... yeah, surely the next ep. will be as funny as this one was.

And as an aside note, I really wonder, will Haiji really be able to run for a long period of time despite the injury he has? I mean, his knee has some scars from stitches so I assume his injury was really serious. I'm kind of curious about that, to be honest.

P.S.: The ED song is great, btw.

This is how large cast shows should be, it's only been two episodes and every character is unique and not hard to tell apart at all, not many shows pull that off.
I'm already seeing this as being the best written show of the season and can't wait for more.

So far, I like this show quite a bit. My only worry is that it'll devolve into the typical try-hard sports anime formula. Fingers crossed that won't happen. Honestly, I'd like the show even more if they cut out the running.

LOL poor Musa, "It's wrong to think someone can run fast just because they're black!" That's gonna suck, he has to maintain his grades because he's being supported by the government, he seems to be the smartest one anyway so I'm not worried but he also has to work at the croquette shop while participating in Haiji's marathon club.

Haiji is high key creeping on everyone. I can't imagine Akane running. He looks like a boy version of Haruko Haruhara from FLCL. He's so skinny plus he spends most of his time doing non-strenuous activities such as reading manga and books. Even in the OP song he was left behind. In the preview, he's flat and dead.

Both Haiji and Kakeru are hard-headed so they both passed out in the hot bath. That old man is a beast though, he spends every night in that hot bath.

This episode kinda pissed me off.

The extent of the "blackmailing" kinda upset me, even if the author intended it to be some sort of comedy flavor of some sort.

It just ruins the atmosphere of a supposed-to-be pure-ish shonen anime.

But I hope the plot doesn't ruin my enjoyment experience (especially because it looks like everyone is just forced to it by their circumstances)

Really nice to watch this episode, not because it was original, after all the narrative has followed a predictable track with regard to the plot, but the merit is of the characters and Haji, excellent drawings and OST.

Once again prefacing this with the fact that this is my fourth rewatch so I will be focusing on details.

This is a buildup episode and we see Haiji's strategy to get the whole group to join the ekiden team through a series of humorous scenes. We are also given more insight into each character's personality and interests; in particular Kakeru's past. I really like how they differentiated past and present through the use of color by having his past be monochrome and faded colors except for the focus of his past trauma. Paired with this is ominous music. I also liked the Haiji is an oni joke, which is a repeating gag we see at the onsen scene and also when he gives Ouji the cardboard boxes which has a picture of an oni on it.

I also particularly liked the line Nico-senpai said, about it being a change of pace (kibun ten kan). When I first watched kazetsuyo, this line stuck with me and I also wanted a change of pace. I think Nico-senpai was the first one to really want to join Haiji in running for the ekiden because of his past in track and field. We see that he is attempting to quit smoking by how Yuki couldn't smell the smoke. We also see he tried to see if he could still run like he used to by Yuki finding his sneakers in the shoe locker and when he ran into Kakeru at the park. I think a part of him longs to be who he was in the past, but he is afraid to meet it head on right now as he has not told Haiji he's interested in joining. But by the fact that Haiji has not talked to him out of everyone, perhaps Haiji knew he would be the easiest to sway out of the group.

I would also like to note the details in the ED animation for the song "Reset". I love how it showed the passing of a year through the use of seasonal flowers (which hold value and is a part of the culture as Japan has four distinct seasons). In the beginning, we see Nira the dog with budded morning glories in the rain and it cuts to Haiji running and we see hydrangeas, so we can assume this is around June. Then we see yellow flowers which I am not too sure about but they might be canola flowers. Then we see Haiji running across the bridge past cosmos flowers, which bloom late August to early October. Then it cuts to him walking along the frozen riverbank in the winter while snow is everywhere. Finally, we see him running toward the sunrise. We realize it is summer again as he arrives at Aotake and the morning glories are in full bloom and there is hint of past rain with the rain puddles on the ground. (Note: morning glories bloom in summer).

Till next time!
