The MAL users are now the only humans left on Earth. Which users would you seek out to maximize your chances of survival?
| In a weird twist of fate, all of humanity has been annihilated except for MAL users, who have miraculously survived. You are now alone, but aware that all the other MAL users are still out there. Which users do you personally feel could genuinely help you survive or make you feel safer if they were around? Or do you think none of them would actually be useful and would then prefer to go solo? (And which users do you think would propel you toward your death if you were near them?) A user I would trust: @Auron I'm not sure why but he gives off vibes of a responsible adult who has his things together. A user I wouldn't trust: @Runasius They would be too busy saving pets to help actual humans. |

| It's a great thread fleur, I'm thinking like a Pluribus situation, but minus the helpful Hive entities. And thank you @Purple_Gh0st24 and @Absurdo_N! I'm not sure if I'm the best pick here but I do appreciate it : ) So some preliminary considerations: is spatial proximity a factor? There may be people on the other side of the ocean, that you don't have a viable way to reach in a post-apocalyptic scenario within reasonable time, before they themselves relocate. That sounds like a boring constraint, so I'll just assume everyone remaining is equally reachable. Another consideration would be, is it solely on the basis of maximizing my own survival? I might have additional goals, such as maximizing the other person's survival, and may pick someone who would be suboptimal by the first criterion, if the other goal is important enough. Only hypothetically, of course. Anyway, broadly speaking, I guess you would want someone physically capable, who has some general knowledge that can come in handy (for scouring the area, how to be out of harm's way etc), and also someone who ideally has some interest in your continued survival (beyond simple reciprocal altruism that can fail under asymmetric load which can happen if capabilities are not equal). You should probably pick a close friend. You would avoid antisocial or cynical people as they will be deleterious for sustained cooperation and may defect if the gains are not immediately visible or delayed. |

You would be useful for making beer, I know. Humanity would end up scavengers of dead civilization; I certainly don't know how to make clothes. Food would be the primary problem, and thus also electricity. We are no longer a civilization for whom farming is common knowledge. So some preliminary considerations: is spatial proximity a factor? There may be people on the other side of the ocean, that you don't have a viable way to reach in a post-apocalyptic scenario within reasonable time, before they themselves relocate.
That sounds like a boring constraint, so I'll just assume everyone remaining is equally reachable.
Another consideration would be, is it solely on the basis of maximizing my own survival? I might have additional goals, such as maximizing the other person's survival, and may pick someone who would be suboptimal by the first criterion, if the other goal is important enough. Only hypothetically, of course.
Anyway, broadly speaking, I guess you would want someone physically capable, who has some general knowledge that can come in handy (for scouring the area, how to be out of harm's way etc), and also someone who ideally has some interest in your continued survival (beyond simple reciprocal altruism that can fail under asymmetric load which can happen if capabilities are not equal). You should probably pick a close friend.
You would avoid antisocial or cynical people as they will be deleterious for sustained cooperation and may defect if the gains are not immediately visible or delayed.

| Well, I'm quite certain that if this world comes to us simply as it is - rather than as a scorched wasteland of radioactive scorpions and cannibal raiders - I'll do just fine in it on my own, with a perfectly respectable degree of comfort... and I'll take care of others, too. Which is why I don't particularly need any of those so-called "survivalists". What I'd rather have is someone I can truly live with - and not grow bored. Someone who has things to say, but says them in moderation... and who knows how to listen. A rare quality, you know.
