This is one of the best stories (or mini stories?) in my memory that conveys the mentality of loyalty to someone. Especially in an Asian way.

Is Fengming Maomao's mom???? Its sad that Maomao's dad was blamed for the death of the baby. I'm wondering if the dad chose to leave the palace and accept the punishment to protect Fengming, assuming that she's Maomao's mom. So Jinshi is most likely the current prince, right?? So maybe his balls weren't chopped off (sry) and he's in disguise to try to figure out what's going on behind the scenes?? Maomao's kidnapping was not an accident, this was planned

Sometimes I just don't understand what is happening because of the rules and names of the people in the palace, and this is one of those episodes lol

Still excited for the next episode!

Aww, I was talking shit on Jinshi last episode, but I felt bad for him in this one. Though, it isn't like his mom is dying or anything. She is just being moved.

The very end was super interesting. Maomao basically condemned a family member to death? Potentially. A lot of twists and turns this episode, but one of the better episode of the season.

Just realize that, from offhand comments during the show, that stupidly curious minister that ate the poisonous soup after Maomao said it was has died. Whew.

Plus, what Gaoshun mentioned about Fengming's family at the end of the episode reminded me much later about the way they conducted execution during ancient China days. They also executed multiple generations of convict's relatives along with the convict.

This show is deceptively grim.

Well... there goes the theory regarding the "baby swap" twist and Jinshi being Ah-Duo's son (of course, ignoring the plot point that requires Jinshi to be 17 right now). Just a one-minute long thought that was quickly dismissed and onto the next episode we go.

And on a side note, this place should really stop bringing concubines and hire more doctors instead. Just a thought I had.

I'm a bit skeptical that an imperial palace didn't have enough doctors to deal with two major childbirths at once.
But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter.
If the author had written something like 'her condition was impossible to solve with contemporary medicine' into the story nothing really changes

I thought they did a very good job of establishing familial love and familial sacrifice. Not only between Ah Duo and her child, but also between the Lady in Waiting and the child. I enjoyed seeing how people can be pushed to things they would never have imagined doing for the sake of the ones that they love.

Damn even after all the explanation regarding Fengming situation there's still whole lot of mystery. My slowpoke brain couldn't handle the narrative style from Maomao at one swallow lmao.

Also unbelievable to see Maomao also having a prevention if Fengming went on rampage. That stiffen oil paper tho, smart girl really thought it out till the deep of the abyss....

Well Fengming honey mystery get solved. Its truly her honey that being caused. Thus same with the Lishu poison case. Together with the servant drowning case that believable to be a suicide. All three gets close together here. But what about the tablets? Luomen expelled? Maomao history?

The baby Ah-Duo truly passed away thanks to Fengming fraudulent. But her way of saying was indeed full of suspect. Was it actually true her child? Who's the real child of the current Emperor from Ah-Duo uterus if its getting swapped? Maomao said it all, but its all just an utter nonsense spouting from her own brainhead, till she found, or me as an audience, more proof to the case, in the near future. Perhaps from the mouth of Luomen himself?

Jinshi moment again for the final cour of the first tho. I need to brace myself to the more cringe moment within them....

Ok if Jinshi is Ah-Duo's biological son then that would make him a prince. Also, if that's the case and Fengming inadvertently killed Ah-Duo's baby but we know Jinshi survived then whose baby died? And, assuming all that is correct, I'm guessing that Fengming didn't realize that the baby that died wasn't Ah-Duo's biological son which if she knew she probably wouldn't have kept Lishu away from Ah-Duo and also wouldn't have tried poisoning her, probably.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll get more answers in future episodes and coming up it looks like Maomao will be focused on, I think something to do with Maomao's kidnappers and Fengming.

First of all... how can Maomao be that smart and perceptive? She was able to guess the plot of Fengming's case from just a few clues and was also able to immediately guess (which seems to be completely correct) again about Lady Ah Duo's baby swap in the past... I'm really amazed... well she's an apothecary, a person who understands medicine, so it's natural that she's smart, but I'm just amazed at how she can connect one by one small pieces into a big one precisely and quickly. Awesome Maomao~

Lishu who didn't know anything was just a victim, and I think it was because of her innocence that she told Fengming that she had almost died as a baby from honey. And Fengming is actually a good person too, she loves Lady Ah Duo very much but that love makes her a "bad" person, she keeps Lishu away from Lady Ah Duo, including poisoning her food, in order to protect Lady Ah Duo's position as a concubine.

What surprised me was that Fengming thought she had killed Lady Ah Duo's baby with her hands, and that made her feel so guilty that she committed a crime, but it turned out that it wasn't Lady Ah Duo's baby that she killed... it was a swapped baby that she accidentally killed... so when she cried to Maomao because she thought she had 'taken the life of something Lady Ah Duo loved the most'... she actually didn't do that... omg.. :"((

Other than Lady Ah Duo and, I assume, Gaoshun, does anyone at the Palace know that Jinshi was the swapped baby? Wait, let alone Gaoshun, does Jinshi himself know that he was swapped as a baby?

This episode gave some answers but gave more new questions :'D it was fun, but I also have to keep remembering things because it only airs once a week T__T

I'm confused about what all that meant about Jinshi. He's concubine Ah-duo's baby who got raised as the emperor's son because he got swapped? And people found out about the swap so Maomao's dad got exiled for it? And Jinshi became a eunuch instead of a prince? Or was that all not real and just a brief theory?

So, Ah-Duo is Jinshi's biological mother? Interesting.

That's why Jinshi was crying. He may never see her again, which will prove difficult, but I suppose he'll move on.

@SouthRzVa they do have actual doctors it just that they aren’t aloud inside the inner court without there dick getting chopped off and they aren’t exactly lining up to work there. So the role is shoved onto eunuchs

I didn't know you could die from honey as a child... anyway the development is interesting if Jinshi really got swapped back then he could have been the one dying, but now it means he's Ah-Duo's real son eh

@Nachtwandler_21 Quick question for you. At this point in the series Maomao still doesn't know that Jinshi holds the title of the emperors brother right? And was she just using jinshi in here theory about the baby switching as a place holder for the empoerors brother?

My conjectures were wrong. But even 猫猫 is coming up with the idea that the hitherto pure concubine's son is actually switched to the empress dowager's son. If Jinshi were that son, instead of brother to the new emperor, he would be a son.

Anyway, I've been trying to think of am analogy to this anime.

King's Doctor/Horse Doctor[kdrama] meets Dae Jang Geum [kdrama] meets Detective Conan [anime].

I wonder what would have happened if Fengming didn't turn herself in, would the investigation found everything out sooner or later, including the honey business?

I was already feeling bad for Lishu last time, but this time its even worse.

Even I know honey is not for babies. You would think a place entirely created to birth children for the dynasty would know as much.

All this drama and she just moves to a different room essentially. Its kinda cute the emperor had the same concubine since he was a prince so long ago.
She does look mighty fine in that outfit instead of the dress. You could say she looks manlier than Jinshi, but in a good way.

I am a little lost though: How exactly did they hide the reason of the babies death? What did they mean by making 2 motives 1?

Why did the servant commit suicide?

PS: The literal storm on the horizon, after all the revelations Maomao might actually be in danger

I'm not sure I have the strength to write a comment for this episode... I'm just shocked! I'll just say that... umm... I like how the anime gave Ah Duo and Jinshi's hair different shades of purple!? 😂 Jokes aside, the royal family tree is obviously very complex, but I would have never expected that... Well, I can certainly tell we're about to reach the climax of the first part of the story, and that scene with Jinshi almost had me in tears too... I'm really loving this show ❤️

So to sum up jinshin could be Ah-Duo's son and maomao's father is an eunuch (unless it's a translation error I watch with French sub)so maomao could actually be the emperor's sister and would be jinshin's aunt

Holy moly, who would've though that this case would become so convoluted and would reveal so many secrets!

I hope Maomao will be alright. She is apparently connected somehow to Fengming. Or maybe it's another part of her adopted father's past?

Jinshi might be actually the emperor's brother, hah. I wasn't surprised hearing Maomao considering this possibility. Jinshi and A-Duo looked alike, after all. Plus such trope we could see, with swapping babies important for the dynasty, would fit into that kind of stories.

Poor Lishu, but at least one of her servants seems to have changed. Too bad it's the servant the most endangered to die by getting poisoned, as a tester, lol.

Going back to Fengming, RIP. She had a plenty of interesting looking close-ups in this episode:

Take off your eyes for couple seconds and you missed tones of information that given to the viewers like those lectures you have on the main subjects in university... That's how much focus I needed to fully digest this episode.

Though I still didn't get what Jinshi said at the ending, about Maomao being kidnapped and what was the connection with her and Fengming family members.
