I'm reading ppl complaining about the censorship and lol.

Do you seriously expect in these times we can see half nudity as easily as it was in the 80-90's?
Haven't we seen maaaaaany times that it'¡s not the case?

Also, before a lot of manga/anime had boobs just as a little fanservice, but now, if an anime has boobs, it's because the reason for that anime/manga to exist is merely sell because of the boobs.

Now, that isn't the case, this show didn't sell because of the boobs. It's more, the boobs in UY disappeared really soon.

It's the same show? No, we have not the same voices, nor the same characters or designs.
If I want to feel like seeing the old show, I go to see the old show.

"Nah but this feels cheap" In which scene have you seen any cheap animation?

"Nah but the old show was smoother" yoy should see again the show then, and see the amount of errots it had even in the early chapters, the problems the show had in the production and in the animation. Because if you say the OG was better, you don't remember at all the show

That was a pretty good first episode. I like how they readapted the first chapter by making some plot elements closer to the manga than the OG anime was, while still not making completely 1:1 to it. The animation was on point for the most part, and the seiyus did a great job recreating the general feel the OG ones did.

My biggest gripe with this first episode though is that the fact they choose to adapt one or my least favorite chapters in the series for the second portion of it. I always thought that one was just needlessly brutal to Ataru, considering he just wanted to see his girlfriend there.

Not necessarily a huge fan of the OP and ED songs (The songs in the original anime just can’t be surpassed, lol), but the visuals in them were pretty great. Love all of the extra fanservice in the opening in particular.

Anyways, I enjoyed that first episode quite a bit even despite the second half. Definitely looking forward to the next one, especially since it’s adapting the yellow ribbon chapter.

I agree with the original OPs and EDs they're quite underrated in my opinion, and I gushed about them so much to my friends ( who sadly don't see how good they are (。•́︿•̀。) )

My only complaint with this episode is that it feels a bit too fast paced, especially in the first half. But other than that I quite enjoyed this episode.
- The art style is cute
- Some parts of the episode look visually interesting (some remind me of Gal to Kyouryuu)
- And they did a good job voice acting the chaotic nature of the first few episodes ^^
- I love how they tried to mix Lum's original hair colors with her iconic green one.

Overall i'm happy with this start!

I like the feel of the characters, just makes me want to watch the original, the Oshii episodes at the very least. The standout here was well, obviously the OP. 2 Yama OPs in a season is crazy.

Compared to the OG from the 80s, this remake is trash. That's how brilliant the OG is.

I tried to give this a chance but it was just painful to me.

Urusei Yatsura was the anime that got me into anime. I sad quit this as soon as Ataru opened his mouth.

The pace is so fast that I've to check the manga if it's just this remake's fault. Turn out this episode only adapt two chapters of manga (chapter 1 and 5, skipping 2-3-4), which is pretty standard, if not a little bit low compare to other anime adaptation. So the manga has already a fast, very fast pace...

It feels SUPER fast compared to the original anime.

The pacing is a thing of the first episodes.
In fact, the first part is a bit longer than the original.

Ppl is veery blind bcs of the nostalgia.

As someone who've seen the entire original show more than 5 times, this version is totally fine.
The only thing where it loses it's in the OP and the ED

Been a huge fan of the original for a while and am still working my way through the old TV series (on YouTube for free!) and films in order. Lum is a great character, lots of fun to watch her get all possessive about her womanizing Ataru and then hilariously punish him accordingly LOL! I really liked how they made it so that her hair flashes poly-chromatically when she discharges her lighting now, makes for a really neat effect with modern digital animation techniques on display.

First thoughts... oh fuck, I'm so damn happy right now. Production quality between this the old adaptation and this is night and day. Voice acting is incredible, like the old seiyu have all been aged back down 40 years (Minus Lum, I don't know how to effectively describe it, her voice sounds "colder" here.).

Despite the episodes being based on the exact same source material as the 1981 anime, it doesn't feel like a 1 to 1 recreation of that old adaptation, something that haunts other anime re-adaptations like Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken.

If I had to say something I didn't like, the OP and ED aren't my thing. Eh, whatever, I'm just happy the series is finally airing. 9/10 episode.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the pacing seems to be EXACTLY the same as the original, which I'm all for.

EDITEDIT: I wish they threw the kuroko into this episode for censorship instead of having no-nip-Lum.

I have not watched the original but I'm definitely gonna watch it because of the author's other works and so far I really liked it. Character designs are amazing. The OP storyboard production by Shingo Yamashita was amazing as expected. Lum is very cute and Uesaka Sumire is doing a great job voicing her. A really good start. Excited about the next one. The ED was cool as well.

It's censored compared to the original.

Also the original has for its time smooth animation all around.

This reboot looks beautiful. Way to go David Productions.

I love how colorful and funky this show is. Both the OP and ED were banger songs.

The character designs look so old fashion but also modern at the same time.
That game of tag is absolutely ridiculous yet hilarious at the same time.
10 days to grab a pretty girl's horns is just outrageous and dragged out.
But I'm all for it.
My man Ataru taking Lum's bra for the win. Let's goooo!

Lum is easily best girl.

Overall, I had a lot of fun watching it.

Ahh got it. Still feels abnormal to me though. Hope it stays as a "thing of the first episodes" in the remake too.

Actually started the anime because my fav VA (Maaya Uchida) voices Shinobu, but with this MC looks like I'm going to feel bad for her all the time lol. Still rooting for her though.

IMO this one is kind of boring, the main difference is that in the original the characters were basically a lot meaner to eachother. In this version they made everyone slightly nicer, and it kind of makes it less interesting. The artwork is pretty pretty, but the old stuff doesn't look that bad. It's not like this is somehow more "modern" since, aside from uncensored boobs, modern Anime actually has a lot more ecci content then stuff from the 70s/80s, but this doesn't. It's like a bland "family friendly" remake designed to capture nostalgia rather then capture the actual spirit of the original. I'm sure people who grew up watching Lum reruns on late-night TV in Japan will enjoy it for it's nostalgia factor, but if you haven't already watched the original just watch that instead, or read the manga.

The focus of the mangaka was a very different type of series when she started the manga (she changed it into a focused lum-ataru one when lum was abymaslly well received in Japana) so expect that weird pacing for more episodes, this seems to be a more faithful adaptation to the manga than the OG one

In the OG manga I think there were like... 8-10 episodes before the pacing got better, when more characters were introduced

That was brutal! Why would the mother say she should not have given birth to her son? It's not like it's his fault for having such bad luck and be born on Friday 13th ^^;

I love the use of colors in this but I'm not sure if I'll enjoy this show. It felt too rushed for a first episode with too many things happening :/ I will give one this a shot though. I haven't watched the original, so I dunno what I'll expect.

I watched anime reruns and the movies when I was kid, I read the manga when I started getting into online Manga sites , and now, all these years laters, I get to experience it firsthand in a totally new experience. It's like a familiar dream. Well, in a way it's my childhood, a deja vu nostalgic feeling . To see such an old story adapted to this level, with this amount of care and passion, I don't really know how to explain what it makes me feel. I felt like a kid watching the opening, and seeing all the grand visions of the manga played out in its modern format. The visuals themselves are stunning, and so much has gone into them, so much effort and detail and creativity. The voice acting is great and the soundtrack is so full of energy. It feels like how as a kid i saw the original story, just a lens of so much wonder and excitement in a ridiculous story. Truly worth every moment waiting for it, the joy this episode brought is entirely indescribable. The opening and ending are so perfect, I've just fallen in love with every part it all over again.
I love my favorite alien LUM..

If Ranma ½ get a remake like, I'd probably break down and cry.. I'm overwhelmed with joy.

First time seeing Urusei Yatsura and I liked it. I really liked the fact that David Production kept the 80s feel from the original. In this episode we are introduced to the love triangle between Ataru the lecherous idiot, Shinobu the childhood friend, and Lum the sexy alien girl. The dynamics between these three characters is a lot different from To-Love-Ru in which everyone is trying to get along while in UY everyone gets in their own way causing unnecessary drama. This is a rather episodic series so pacing shouldn't be an issue unless you're a die hard fan of the source material. This begins the misadventures of Ataru and the obnoxious alien Lum.

I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but I did not expect something like that

It almost feels like an old-school version of Gintama, both being a comedy and having aliens invade earth. but without this love-triangle theme. Very vibrant colors and the episode felt so "over the top". You couldn't "relax" for more than 5 seconds

Production was very good, both animation and music-wise. And as expected, the voice actors did an amazing job

Anyway, interesting start and I'll definitely keep watching it. Don't know if I'll finish it, because I may change my mind later, but until then, this is easily a unique experience, which is a plus in my book.

Visuals are pretty, Ueasaka Sumire is perfect as Lum, OP song is catchy. Though, it's super disappointing that they heavily tamed down the source material if it comes to fanservice in this adaptation. I don't think that original adaptation would be as popular as it was (and still is) without it.
