THIS IS SO FREAKN' RELATABLE.

When iketeru was holding the watch but was still asking about the time,

Me: by any chance...is he like me...?

OH SHIT, THAT'S ME.
When someone asks me about the time cuz they saw my wristwatch. I take like 2-3 minutes and it's so embarrassing, so I just move my hand towards them so that they can see it themselves. I know it doesn't make it less embarrassing. So, I stopped wearing watch ๐Ÿ™ƒ

I can relate to Iketeru, how he dies of laughter cuz of silly dirty things, for me it's silly things like, someone slipped or they moved in a funny way etc. When I notice such things I laugh for like 10-20 minutes (in my mind) I actually bite my lips so that my laugh doesn't get out in the public (๏ฟฃโ–ฝ๏ฟฃ)

They talk about adults but for me during my age of 10 to 15 I used to be the lone wolf type of person who emitted gloomy aura with no friends, it was so difficult to blend in cuz people used to avoid me. So, after I got out of school I started wearing a smile so that it's easier to live in the society...and now life is as shitty as shown in this anime...

The casts are perfect and obviously really like the ED, it's Mamo-chan after all.

I didn't think it was possible for an anime to bore me that much in a single episode...

It has a single joke that they make over and over and over again... And it isn't even a particularly funny joke. And the execution is terrible...

By the 10 min mark, it was painful to watch it.

So far it's not as funny as the manga imo but it was still super enjoyable to watch! I think part of it might be because I already knew about Uramichis twisted personality so his responses didn't come out as surprising to me but it also lacked a bit of impact idk. Like in the manga Uramichis personality switch always comes with very intense manga panels so maybe that's why? I'm not sure but I'll definitely continue watching.

Obviously the voice acting is great with that many popular VAs.

Adult depression the animation. I like the concept, but I'm worried that it might become repetitive. Even the first episode felt a little repetitive. They're going to have to find more situations to make things more varied and interesting if they want to keep viewer's attention.

The comedy was ok. I chuckled at some parts and others just kinda fell flat. The dick bit was actually pretty funny.

Dark comedy can be a lot of fun, but they're going to have to do better going forward.

I'm crying. I'm laughing. This episode was relatable on a top-tier level.

The dark humor is really hilarious. They really did a good job in turning the dark reality of daily life into comedy. And I'm not saying that it was those cringey, cliched, and overused jokes; it was just purely golden and sooo relatable.

Uramichi really portrayed the way on how I (probably not only me, but how all of us) wake up in the morning, go do our roles in society, up until the very end of the day, which sucks but that's the truth, isn't it? I love how Hiroshi Kamiya portrays him.

Also, I feel so bad for Iketeru. The man's as broken as his humor is. That was probably the funniest part in this episode. From the way that Uramichi just had to deal with him, up to how he wheezed about those stupid jokes, it made me crack up so much. Mamoru Miyano delivered a great job once again (I still can't move on from his wheezes LMAO).

Anyways, I can't wait to see what jokes and shenanigans this show will bring in the following episodes.

It was good, but nothing that made me think I HAVE to keep watching though I'll probably give it another try. I mean sure, as a single 30-year-old crushed by the harshness of reality I find Uramichi relateable, but I'm not even athletic. I only laughed at the singer-oniisan's reaction to the phrase "chindaru genshou" but that was really freaking funny. I can only assume Uramichi got his job through threats.

I feel like this wants to be something darkly funny along the lines of Aggretsuko, but something about the pacing and delivery meant most of the jokes didn't land for me and everything just felt... bleak and boring.

Some jokes were funny, others are a bit annoying. But it isn't bad either.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

Chuckled a bit but the comedy didn't quite hit all the time for me.

I feel like this could do much better with a little more consistency. Gee, the Seiyuu lineup though.

Admittedly, I'm not too sold on this series. You ever like have that person who keeps making self-deprecating jokes one after another and it just gets old? They don't rad the mood and everyone's just laughing uncomfortably at that point, but it's like okay man, we get it. That's kinda what this anime feels like. It's like, hey man we can talk about it, you don't have to joke about it every time. It's actually pretty sad. That's maybe the point, but if that's the case then I feel like it warrants a different approach than this.

Dark comedy is hard to get down well, so hopefully they can get it as they keep it going.

The first episode is the worst one so far IMO, for just this reason. Later episodes are less repetitive.

This is interesting starting with the first episode as Uramichi starts as a cheerful character on the outside while he has a dreadful personality on the inside

Oh wow he doesn't fit and fits at the same time in this environment, And his mood changes entertain me in a way that I can feel what he's feeling, A midlife crisis to be exact

I want them to do more collabs seems like their chemistry doesn't fit and the way that it doesn't fit gives off a more amusing vibe to it especially those Kuma and Usagi guys, This Iketeru guy has a common thing of mine holy shit his humor is so bad it's good and his wheeze I can't with this guy it's hilarious.

Just watched this yesterday as I finally found access to it.
To be honest, after watching the first episode, I went to the forums expecting an overwhelming amount of bad reviews cause, I personally got so bored and irritated with the redundant, over-used, no set-up depression jokes.
But I was so surprised and confused when I saw it's very positively reviewed instead.

This has been on my list for months after watching the trailer because,1) I liked the mid-life crisis concept, 2) I love satirical, dark-humor, parody, comedy Anime, and 3) Sugita is included, so I expected this to be one chaotic comedy riot from the start. But with just the first episode, I got confused as heck as to why they were rushing the jokes, one after another with no setup, and nothing was hitting me. It wasn't until the couple was introduced that jokes started hitting, cause they had character traits... Uramichii and the 2 mascots did not yet, until the 2nd episode.

After reading positive comments, I felt like there's something wrong with me. But after finding some negative comments as well, I realized I wasn't alone in that after all.
And that's all I needed to know, really. I didn't come here to question anyone's taste. I'm glad that a lot of people is having fun with it. I just needed to make sure that my dislike of the 1st episode was justified. And seeing as there's others who felt almost exactly the same way as I did... I think my feelings for this episode was fair.

3) Sugita is included, so I expected this to be one chaotic comedy riot from the start.

You're right, it is exactly a comedy riot, but not against depression, but against adult life in general. And in every joke, in every line there are two or three hidden meanings. Like every adult has two or three hidden sides.
What's important here is the interaction between the seiyu, who all played their roles amazingly, and each in his place.

In case anyone else is searching like me, I'll save you some time if you happened upon this post.

I didn't find the Dick Richard thing funny because it's an old overdone joke for me. So I wanted to know what the original joke was.

First off, if you didn't know, chinchin is penis. I guess chin can be to according to jisho, but I've not heard it before this show.

Tyndall is pronounced chindaru and effect is genshou. So he's laughing and saying CHINdaru genshou and emphasizing "chin". It probably helps that chindaru is in katakana because it's foreign and according to jisho, chin is also typically katakana.

When the main dude is egging him on, he proceeds to whisper other words that start with "chin"
1. chindaru genshou (tyndall effect)
2. chinage (wage increase)
3. chinningu ("chinning" loan word meaning chin-up)
4. chinkoundo (couldn't find this. chinkou is sedementation or maybe it's chinkon something.)

I'll update if anyone else can figure out 4.

Man, I miss sub groups. It's great that most stuff is translated and fast now due to our corporate overlords but damn I miss translations without localizations, and the inconsistency of the translations of our corporate overlords. The only groups that even do proper stylization for signs and stuff these days, also happen to do crappy encodes. What happened there? Back in my day, everyone uploading had strict encode settings to reduce banding and keep quality but now half+ of it is crap, even with BD source. It's not always their fault - some shows like Steins;Gate just have a lot of banding from source but a lot of encodes these days that should have no banding have tons. /rant

Wanted to watch because I liked the concept of the show but the execution was bad, none of the gags during the first worked since it felt like a Power Point presentation that lacked a proper pace to what is getting told and the ugly animation, more like lack of it, make the characters more insufferable than they should be but it seems this show is just going to be "Isn't this so relatable? Depression am i right? ~โ˜†"

Next.

Going all out with the dark humour. Wondering how many reshoots that studio has to do when Uramichi falls off the wagon during filming - the editing crew must have a hell of a time cutting an episode together.

Only issue is that how this can go on. You can only do the depressive adult life thing so much before it becomes overdone.

The opening is kinda funky. Not of my taste though

Lol, this dude is having the existential and midlife crisis that almost everyone from the age of 18 has. He's in his 30's. I presume he has been doing this for a long time. I wonder if he should be called 'ojisan' instead of 'oniisan' lol

He probably doesn't even get paid enough to deal with those kids. All of his colleagues seem to be having the same pessimistic view.

I love how he doesn't sugarcoat things. Sugarcoating them leads to young minds having a false perception of this world. If someone had told me that finding and getting into a suitable college would be this hard, I would have been extra fucking prepared.

Bruh they are still laughing at 'dick' jokes XD

The ED is pretty good

A pretty funny first episode. Going to stick around to see what the comedy has to offer.
Graduated High School in May of 2022. Summer vacation has finally arrived. I have once again regained the power of a new anime fan, being able to watch multiple anime episodes in a day. Time to binge-watch every single anime I can into the night until college arrives. SADGE. SUPER SADGE... College has begun as of Monday, August 30, 2022, so you won't be seeing me much around these parks. See you on weekends, I guess... School me is back. Sigh! I'll at least try for one anime a day with all this course load.

It escaped me the first time I watched it, but here is the first time Iketeru gives out onigiri in response to Utano saying that she wants to get married.
And Uramichi draws Kotori-san as a projection of his psychological state. Deep down, he himself is such an inconspicuous Kotori-san, an unhappy child. So is Usahara, so is Kumatani (note that there are three Kotori-san in the endings).
