the thought of performing in front of 100,000 people breaking Tuesday was funny

something tells me Skip's advice (and Crystal's motivation) will play a big part for the two

also, i can't wait till they release a full album of all the songs from this. Skip and Crystal's are absolute bangers!

Finally time for FlyLo and Thundercat to get their dues paid and show their stuff! So bizarre hearing T-Cat sing in an anime, but he and Lotus have been PB&J for years now, so it's just as good as any other collab of theirs.

And Lauren knocked her performance out of the park, man. Best individual performance of the show so far (for good thematic reason), and hopefully Crystal - and by extension, Skip - play a big role in the development of Carole and Tuesday's performative journey.

Also, y'all know Maaya won't be voicing Crystal in other languages, right? The focus on finding singing voices that transcend the casting choices was, I have to assume, deliberate, given the casting call for C&T was for English-speaking singers. The comparison between Maaya and Lauren will be a lot different compared to her English VA, or even her VA in other languages.

Its carole and tuesdays 1st major gig and sadly it turns out to be not that nice as people are hating them since they are waiting for Omega and not them. Amidst all of that they have able to sung their original composition.

+ someone has able to appreciate it, and that is Crystal. Its a big bonus for them since thats a popular singer...

They also met new characters such as skip, joshua, crystal.

And ertegun is also there...

For those who have hated them, one day you will be also cheering for them.

Anyways i love this episode as it features many song. And i love it.

An extremely popular music festival in a DESERT. Name me at least one in Japan.

When you get that specific is hard to come up with a counter, anyway i don't think that the first popular music festival in a DESERT ever was done in western/american

Sure, but we're talking about today. And the first thing that comes to mind is Coachella, because how big and well known it is.
And I'm not implying it's a bad thing, it's just they try so hard to add todays pop culture and all trending things. It almost feel forced.

Great episode with lots of good music. Skip seems like a cool dude and his song was good but lmao I don't think they could have picked a worse Japanese VA to match the English (or vice versa) is they tried. Him and Crystal definitely had a thing tho.

C&T get what seems to be a pretty lucky break. Guess it pays to have friends with connections and a bit of luck. Didn't exactly work out for them tho. Felt pretty nervous for C&T as they were going on stage and the garbage throwing didn't felt. Tbh after hearing Joshua's music I don't really think C&T would be a great replacement. But hey any publicity is good publicity and Crystal really came through for them at the end.

The singer that does Skip's voice is Thundercat himself so if you want to listen to more music of him go to his youtube channel, the song was pretty good and it didn't bothered me at all that it wasn't like the seiyu because it is fairly commok for an artist to have differents types of voices while talking than while siging.

I bet that the characters don't even know what coachella is. It doesn't feel forced, it just feels like they have big festivals in their universe.

did watanabe commission a song for every episode? this is some serious production value. also with his taste, of course there'd be a d'angelo-esque song

I was definitely not expecting the newly introduced acts to actually have full songs lol. Good call on Skip being pretty reminiscent of a singer like D'Angelo.

Crystal seems to have Beyoncé-like presence, but her song reminded a lot of something Ariana Grande might release.

Fun episode overall, and I enjoyed the songs except for Carole x Tuesday's pick.

The series intensifies. Man the budget for this show must be pretty damn high if they are bringing in actual entertainers to provide music for the series. All in All I'm loving every bit of it.

Especially after this episode, this show needs an English dub.

I know I am in the minority in this, but it would fit so much better.

IMO The (english) voice of Crystal was actually good but Skips voice didn't really matched up at all.

- Was Tuesday singing in the scene where she fainted?
- Tuesday swaying her arms in the next scene while laying on the couch was funny. She looked like she was all like "Come here, Carole, somebody help me!
- Gus has bad breath apparently. I don't know what he's doing working with bad breath.
- Lol, I thought that the girl blocking the door with her leg was Carole.
- Carole and Tuesday are so strong for being able to keep their composure while everyone is being mean to them. And dang, I didn't expect someone to drop the F bomb in this show.
-Is that Beyonce singing at the end?

With the first few episodes, I was sure the show was mediocre, it looked like it was going to be a cliched borefest with filler dilaogue but I can't be so sure now but it looks like the show's improving on the writing because it's been kind of stumbling on the first few episodes but it looks like the humor is more witty now. Some of the dialogue used is clever.

And God, the music in this show is just so gorgeous but I don't get how they get English actors to sing the songs while every other dialogue is in Japanese. It sounds kind of jarring to hear Japanese voices switch to English.

This is a great episode, probably the best episode in the series.

Carole & Tuesday is by far the GOAT of the anime listed in the "music" category. New music tracks every episode instead of hearing the same one song over and over. And the characters INCLUDING THE SIDE CHARACTERS give a good representation of what the modern music industry is like.

I'd prefer them to release less new song but polish them a little bit. The protagonist's songs are not that even that good, at least when compared to side character's songs. So far Crystal's song is the only one got me "wow that was good", the rests are like "it's not bad".

So far we got like (correct me if I'm wrong) 7 original songs in 6 episodes, if this trend keep going for the rest of the show I can't even imagine how they gonna pull all the songs off.

Another really good episode! Watching this is becoming one of my favorite occasions of the week. This show bleeds nearly mastered simplicity to me. It flows in a exciting way even if it can be convenient, and it does so quite charmingly. This episode's shoe shots where you saw all 4's shoes with the lights on and later saw the lights off with only Carole and Tuesday's was one such example.

Gus as always charmed me this episode. In particular I loved when he said:
  • "Oh, don't be silly! You have nothing to lose."
I loved it because it was like Gus's philosophy on life said in such a simple and succinct way. Go hard to go home, be unashamed and get what you want for you and the people you care about. This philosophy can be heroic, admirable, or villainous depending on who has it and funny enough the voice actor of Gus plays a character with a similar philosophy but a different morality in One Piece. It's especially great to me because Carole and Tuesday didn't have to accept, I'm sure he'd push it on them but I doubt he'd pick them up and carry them. This was honestly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and if they could be unashamed as Gus and go out there with confidence this could be life changing. This cast is fun.

Another way they are fun is how this episode built on Carole and Tuesday's relationship for me. I liked seeing them nervous at night in their own ways, Carole yelling and Tuesday being relatably anxious and praying they don't have to play, something I did every year when I had to present in class. And then seeing how Carole comforted Tuesday and the second they were together they were relieved, they were strong together and able to have fun writing music again. That was a powerful moment for me and the way Carole and Tuesday hugged after that hard experience on stage was really nice too. Their love of music and kindness and chemistry allows them to be there for one another when they need it and to encourage each other to keep going!

Some lines I really loved were:
  • "Those who chase two beavers catch neither!", a nice call back.
  • "You think backups get a limo? We're going by train!", "Should've figured" with a chuckle. The girls are getting to know and appreciate Gus's work for them.
  • Finally the line that made me chuckle. "Just imagine the audience is a bunch of potatoes!", "There's no way I can eat that many potatoes!", seeing Tuesday get nervous at the idea of an overwhelming amount of potatoes was adorably funny.
I guess lastly the festival was aesthetically awesome and it was cool we got three songs, one with sci-fi bird effects flying everywhere. I started to like Ertegun's narcissism this episode. Roddy blocking him from the girls was cute. And the girls getting two big musicians support was endearing! Plus, this is totally the origin story of a band that became legendary one day, 'their second gig was hated and they had trash thrown at them but they kept up until they came back to the festival on the main stage one day!!' Woo.

Skip and crystal are the first time in the whole series that theres actually been any decent music so at least we got that, too bad the voice transitions for both of them were absurdly jarring, well more for skip, with crystal im more pissed they didnt just use Maaya Sakamoto who can do amazing english vocals, i mean jesus christ show you finally have a performer who can do both and you opt out, this series makes some confounding choices sometimes.

This series is just so fucking strange with how polished it is only to be flimsy as fuck when it comes to the music, like they arent even trying with the lip syncing whatsover in any of these performances and it so takes you out of it.

I love Crystal's song, but I totally agree, they should've let Maaya sing. She can sing english perfectly and has a great singing voice overall. Not sure why they had to hire another singer for that when it could be easily done by getting the VA herself to sing.

Pretty sure that Maaya doesn't sign for characters as she keeps her career as a singer and as a voice actress apart. Skip's English singing VA doesn't match his Japanese VA. lol Crystal's singing VA was also kind of off but it still worked to an extent, Skip's was just way off.

Damn, that crowd was fucking rude but that's real life. I've seen people boo'd off stage before. It's just a reflection of society. Also,in reality people like DJ Ertegun and Omega have the most fans and singers like Carole and Tuesday rarely make it unless they'rel ike Ed Sheeran who appeals to masses of female fans.

Still, glad that Carole and Tuesday didn't give up. I want to see Crystal and Skip again the future, Skip looks bad ass and Crystal too. Now, we need Angela to debut next!

LOL at Joshua falling off stage. I want to see this drug addict's 'shy boy' side. He fucking fell off the stage lol

Fantastic. The series is really starting to feel lived in after viewing this episode. We are introduced to yet more potential characters and some of the crazy antics of already famous musicians.

This is definitely my anime of the season. It probably helps that I enjoy music and anime equally. So when combined correctly, like here, it hits the sweet spot.

I forgot. Yeah, she doesn't sing for characters, though sometimes she gets to do the ED or OP for an anime she's in.
Not saying that Lauren didn't do, bc her voice is great, no dispute. I just thought from productions point of view it would be easier, but yeah.

Wow Carole & Tuesday got their career boost right there! Playing in front of such a huge crowd on a popular festival is something else. Too bad the girls didn't manage to finish a new song, but Round & Round was good enough I think.

Well, the crowd didn't want them to play anyway and seeing them cry afterwards was heartbreaking. But then Crystal came and told them to not give up and that there will be some people who actually 'heard' them. It was beautiful. Oh and I love Skip's advice too. It is so relevant since a lot of artists do lose their own voice and sound on their journey to fame. His music was so relaxing and he totally rocked his bass by the way. Can't wait for next week!

This so much. Whoever Lauren Dyson sang Crystal's song did great, but Maaya can sing absolutely AMAZING in English...I can't see any real reason to have had her changed unless it was on her end... I did hear that she doesn't like singing "in character".

I think it is more about an accent. Though Maaya has some really good songs on English, she still has a noticable Japanese accent (damn, even Ayahi Takagaki who, I think, is the best singing English in the whole industry, has it) and they probably wanted all singers to sound "native".

I think this is fair but im also looking at it under the view that kids on the slope was a 12 episodes show and this one is 24, the pacing for the 2 for better or worse is radically different.

What absolutely is below kids on the slope is the music on every level, which is a given cause you know, yoko kanno is a bit of an unfair standard, but I do think outside of that contrast theres alot to criticize with this show's music, not only are the performances WAY too standard and bland but the lyrics themselves kind of ruin any impact with how vapid and shallow they almost all are which kind of conflicts with the feeling that this is somehow better than an advanced ai. Then outside of that the big problem i havent seen people mention that I cant escape is how absolutly worthless and background noise the bgm itself is, its so weird how the music show ended up being the series with the least amount of focus on bgm from this director especially after something like dandy that rolled out an insane amount of variety from each episode.

I dont want to rag on the show too much but I do just generally find this to be Watanabe's weakest start of a show, but at least that will still put it leagues above zankyou no terror if it stays to this quality, and its not like theres anything wrong with a solid 7/10 its just kind of sad that this show isnt doing anything greater

This was expected, when someone expects one thing and they give you another you're bound to be disappointed no matter how good the replacement is. Well, atleast Crystal noticed them.

I see alot of people complaining about Skip's voice not fitting him, I think it fits him well, especially with the type of song he sang, very melancholic.

Also, am I the only one that actually likes Ertegun? He's egotistical but he's not rude/annoying or anything, he's just obsessed with himself.

I dont know what else to call them, they sound like pop songs that sound straight out the late 90's and early 00's, which is what they were going for its just unfortunate that genre in that era are bad and filled with manipulative lyrics, I probably wouldn't be so harsh on them if it werent for the lyrics, thats kind of the icing on the cake, like they arent as manipulative as say a early bieber song is where its just straight pandering but the lyrics kind of go in the same boat with the vague descriptions in the songs and end up feeling really empty. Theres nothing interesting there, like to convey tuesday's sadness they just have her outright say shit about how shes the lonliest girl rather than actually go into why she feels that way, the songs are devoid of anything lyracally to make them stand out, and the unfortunate thing is the lonliest girl is the only song in the show that musically is above average.

The music isnt horrible, but this is a series about music, and not just that it's about how the creativity of artists can counter the advancement of ai's churning out songs but the irony is the songs carole and tuesday are singing dont sound any better. This feels like such a huge fault on the anime's part and even then outside of that aspect, its downright unforgivable just how bland the soundtrack itself is outside of musical performances, the soundtrack has no presence whatsoever other than an occasionally wacky song during a joke moment, theres no atmosphere or sense of tone in the music its just background noise at absolute best and especially considering who the director is this is maybe one of the biggest failings of his career given that this has been consistently one of the defining features of directing style was how much music and visual storytelling work in tandem together, and its so bizzare that he drops the ball here on a music show of all things.

I'm sure people disagree, musical taste is the most subjective thing ever, but I can't help but feel this show has massively dropped the ball with its music all around and its not helped by how much the change in vocals take everyone out of the world every time they happen, anytime you think you get used to it an even more jarring and offputting one shows up like this episode with skip. I sincerely dont know why of all things the least polished and thought out aspect is the music

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

I'm really not entertained by this show, but it's not poorly directed and it has a good plot, so I would feel bad if I gave it a low rating. Which I find strange because I usually like anime that has a plot revolving around music and instruments. Honestly the most entertainment I get from this is when Ertegun talks to himself. I'm still going to continue watching it though, so hopefully it will start entertaining me more.

I like they way this episode was handled, and I liked all the new artists introduced. Skip seems like a really chill guy and Crystal was more down to earth than I would've expected. Looking forward to the next one!

This was such a beautiful episode. Skip and Crystal have a story and apparently she left him... Her performance was incredible, and she was awesome to give Carol and Tuesday her congratulations. Crystal and Skip songs, mostly Crystal's were AMAZING. Left me crying and trembling.

Great songs! Crystal was amazing.
One of the best things about this show is that we can enjoy so many music styles in and out of it: During the episode and the "real life" music references they use in each episode for us to hear later.

@JizzyHitler

Exactly how I feel about the music. Thank you. I don't know why Watanabe just didn't get Yoko Kanno on board again. She can practically do any genre of music.

And the lyrics are even worse. Rolling laundry lolwut.
